Hello.

Im sure that everyone would have a desire to tinker with hardware at one point or another. Thats where shops such as Homefix would come into play, selling equipment like screwdrivers and wrenches that one could use for his own DIY sessions. Unfortunately while Homefix does supply qlot of essential tools and equipment, there are things that they do not sell. Stuff like threaded rods, for example.

I want to reinforce my box brackets by using a threaded rod to hold the boxes in place so that it wont warp when i load it with heavy stuff. I already measured that i need 3 6mm diameter threaded rods cut to 340mm long.

Unfortunately the hardware shops that i ventured to only sell the threaded rods by the strut. 2m long struts. and they wont help you cut the rod for some reason or another.

Should i invest in a disc cutter and cut it myself? Or should i try my luck with a hacksaw? I understand that the rods are pretty sturdy stuff, and it might take a few hacksaw blades to cut the pieces that i need.

why not bring to your frequent bike shop and buy the mechanic a coffee??

I would like to do that. Unfortunately carrying a 2M long strut of steel will prove to be a challenge carrying around on a bike.

Im now looking for a disc cutter to purchase for future DIY purposes. I hope that it wont cost too much. :)

If you are still schooling, bring to the mechanical engineering workshop. I believe there are disc cutter provided or perhaps use the cutting machine. Inform the TSO to guide you to use the machine for your FYP, or best you have a friend in that department.

.

M6 thread, can be cut easily by hacksaw.

Personally, hacksaw is still my preferred tool for this because the cut is cleaner, and you need less PPE than using an electric tools.

Which shop you go to?

Most serious metal shops provide cutting eventhough you buy just one length of 2m.

Hacksaw works fine but I doubt you'd want to buy and then immediately start cutting it up outside the shop? Another option is to buy long M6 screws and cut off the hex head.
