i noticed that my bike "drinks" alot of coolant after i flush & change my coolant to engine ice. Recently, i need to monitor my reserve coolant located at the RH side of the bike. Almost need topping up 1-2 weeks. There was no indication of coolant over-flow from my bike. I went to bike shop to check my fan, water pump, thermostat and etc... all in good conidtion. The mechanic said that was normal. Anyone has the same problem with me after changing coolant to engine ice? btw I am riding spec 2.

u mean you need to change the Engine Ice coolant often? that sounds bad. normal coolant can last longer no?

i tink he meant topping up bro...coz i tink wen he checked, coolant at the reservoir, it falls below low or sumthin...

To TS, did u check coolant aft ur engine started, after turning off the engine or wen ur engine is cold? If the first two, ur getting the wrong reading. Coz the engine wud have already circulate ur thru it...if u check wen engine cold, try checking the radiator cap. Maybe need to change...

hmm i think if that really happen, our temp bar will light up more frequently and easily to warn us about it. isn't it?

However, if there is no coolant in the system, the temp meter will not light up at all even if the temp is very high as there is no contact with the liquid to gauge the temp.

normally so called "flush" apprarently drains all ur coolant and top up frm

radiator cap. most of the time the hoses and radiator are not fully filled

and might drain some coolant frm the reserve but most of the time just a little..

so draining of coolant is normal if ur mech doesn't top up neatly.

well if ur coolant reserve is constantly empty after top up, check ur radiator

cap 1st. that is normally the problem. sometimes after a slight overheat ur

cap might be gone. check or replace that then top up with tap water and

observe. if water still drains means some part is leaking. my humble 2cents

Not true. The sensor acts according to the surrounding temperature at its sensor head, regardless of the presence of coolant or air.

I've been using that same coolant for 7mths. Still no top up needed.

Hey guys, I finally found out my bike problem. My radiator is leaking. Tats why my coolant in my reservoir gets empty quite fast.... btw, my radiator leaks only after my bike warm-up. When bike is cold the leaks stop. Why is tat so?

Any idea hw much does it cost for a OEM radiator?

I tink radiator is not cheap.. Ur coolant leak because when the engine reach a certain temp, the coolant pump starts to pump coolant to the radiator for cooling, tat's when ur leaking start.. When ur engine is cool, pumping stop and coolant will slowly flow back to the reservoir tank and tat's y ur leaking stop..

Yes, it will cause rusting in the long run.

Why not you use distilled water? ntuc sells 1.5L bottle of pure distilled water for less than $2

Any coolant will do lah...any kiosk oso got sell. If there is a NTUC nearby...see if you can get the local Japanese brand call "Diax"..its pretty good and formulated for our tropical usage. Its concentrated and have to mix with distilled water (80 cents per bottle at NTUC) 65/35%. Since your reserve tank is dried...I suggest you take off your fuel tank and pour into the radiator direct. Once level there is full..start your engine and rev slowly a few time and let the coolant cycle till its full and settle down. put back everything and go fill the rest in the reserve coolant tank (2nd mark level)..level your bike.
