High quality means like those u see in overseas bike mags.

Not those local ones from ah boy etc etc.

Out of curiousity, what is the objective of this survey?

Are you planning to bring in a line of saddlebags? Or are you just trying to find out how much good saddlebags cost?

Posted

Hi all,

the objective of the survey is to better understand how much our local cruiser riders

willing to fork out for a set of good leather saddlebag or hardbag( hardbags are side panniers and more duable like those GIVI sideboxes but GIVI boxes looks ugly/oversize when attach to a cruiser!!!)

Yes. Yes I have intention to bring in good quality saddlebags for the local market.

But, it depends on how our local riders willingness to own one. That means to say

to pay for quality goods. Better still, I have a few of my own designs of hardbags, I might produce them maybe.

FYI ever since I passed my Class 2B in '92, I had been riding a cruiser type bike.

At that time my first bike was a Honda CBX125 custom.

From those days till now, I have always wish for someone to bring in a line of good quality saddlebags or hardbags. But pity its always Lim Ah Boy with his line of affordable saddlebags plus low quality. I think those bags are made in Thailand or somewhere....whatever but I know quality is suspect.

I often see our local cruisers which are fitted with those saddlebags are in bad shape.

I can swear that I was one of them including my riding buddies back then.

Their bags are either torn somewhere or faded or out of shape or the buckles are rusty or the bag which is above the exzhaust pipe have a lobang due to the heat from the pipes. I am sure that our cruiser riders here are either not aware of the need to fix a saddlebag bracket or just do not know or just can't afford or was not told by the accessory shop!!!!

The types of hardbags here are also a letdown  sigh.

Anyway I have good intentions with this survey. But it all depends on our riders.

cheers

:help:

True, there are many who ride cruisers who use those ugly looking saddlebags/hardbags which is very very unsightly on a cruiser.

But there are many here, more so those with big cc power cruisers who use imported or custom saddlebags/hardbags.

You dont usually see many 400cc cruisers with custom/imported quality bags/hardbags probably because it could be just a transition phase to another bigger and mightier machine.

Fair enough.

From my perspective, it's all relative to the cost of your bike. If my bike cost me 5k - like the average 2a cruiser, i'd spend no more than $200 for pair of leather bags.

If my bike cost more like in the case of a class2 bike, i'd be willing to spend more. But once you go to that scale there are other options like buying from the US or from ebay.

Hi All,

Where is a good place(s) to look for decent midrange price large-size saddle bags? Lim Ah Boy has some really cheap ones - price and quality. I searched around Balestier/Serangoon road/Jln Besar area without results. I tried searching here, but I can't seem to search.

Thanks.

I have the same bags.

It's made by Hondaline, and they are top notch quality leather bags.

But it won't hold full face or event open face helmets.

It will however hold half-helments.

Sound like the Rjay to me. The nylon pannier comes with rain cover to shield your bag from the rain which is lockable and expandable at the same time. Available at Regina for around $160, you may want to PM Scorpion69 as he is selling his away for a leather saddlebag replacement.
