1) is it true that the DL650 FC can hit 22~25 km per litre?

Yes. Worst case scenario is 2 up full luggage and cruising (130km/hr), with overtaking etc on NSH, average 20km/L

2) how many spark plug does the DL650 need?

2004-2006 models use 2 spark plugs. 2007 ABS models onwards use 4 spark plugs. If i remember correctly, there is an interim model in 2007 with ABS but 2 spark plugs. Correct me if I'm wrong.

2007 (K7) model has the most significant changes from earlier years. ie Black luggage rack. Swingarm length increased from 1540mm to 1555mm . ABS option available. New throttle bodies. Dual spark plug heads. Switch from 16 to 32 bit ECU. Graduated chevron tank graphic. Underseat tray is shorter between the seat lock assembly and the battery (making room for ABS). Handlebar switches changed with integrated throttle. Dry weight 194kg for non-ABS model & 197kg for ABS model. All front calipers & master cylinder have been changed. From caliper piston diameter of 30.23mm & Master Cylinder of 15.87mm to caliper 27mm and Master Cylinder 14 mm.

2008 (K8) has alternator output increased from 375 to 400 watts.

As long as u dont intend to put a super 4 handlebar on an adventure tourer.
Dear Al-Simmons,

I intend to put tehe best Super 4 handlebar on my DL650 in the near future. Will it affect my steering and counter-steering, or the look of the DL650?

Hi guys, I'm rather new to this forum and i would like to have some thoughts on my ride. Recently I've acquired a Vstom 1000 with a 30k mileage and really love it but i notice that it encountered some occasional backfiring issues from the exhaust. It happened when the bike is deaccelerate and trying to rev it up again. I'm clueless as to what is happening. can you guys tell me what is going on or what should I check on to eliminate this. Appreciate the help. Thanks..

Hi,

Maybe you list down more details like which year model are you riding. K2-K3 or K4+ ?

I strongly believe the backfiring is from the throttle bodies and not the exhaust. It will be good for you to hang out with the Vstrom riders especially the 1000 owners. Most ex-owners gave up on the bike after just riding for a few months as they do not know how to rectify the problem and then sell back the bike. And as a result most of the 2nd hand Vees' on the market are not synchronise properly. Before you ask more questions regarding the bike, you'll need to familiarise yourself with certain terms such as, Throttle Bodies, Throttle Body Synchronisation (TBS), Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), Throttle boots, Secondary Valves / Butterfly valves, knocking effect, tankslap, bla bla bla....

There's more to it then just what i've mentioned.

All info could be found somewhere in these thread among the pages or you could search easily in VSRI forum which are technically more organised and well explained by the US owners.

I will strongly encourage you to meet up with the guys here to learn more about the bike, the known problem and troubleshooting. Before you splash your moos on unnecessary maintanence and replacement of parts, try doing the simplest troubleshooting and identify the problems first.

Once your Vee are well taken care off, you will have a wonderful riding experience be it in city riding as well as long rides. Else, you'll just join the few who will just push back the bike to the shop or sales thread.

Ride safe~

Hi guys, thanks for the invaluable advice. Anyway, my ride is a k8 EFI model. Well I hope it does not affect the performance of the engine because from what I feel there is still raw power left on my ride when i try to put her through her pace every morning to work. Would love the idea of meeting up with some of you guys if there is an opportunity. Anyway will pay Ahmad, from loois a visit one of these days to have my bike check cos i'm a bit naive when comes to all these technicalities.

Wonder if they will introduce a new 1000 again?

Sadly the 1000 has been discontinued. Hopefully suzuki will realise the market and make a comeback with a 1200 in the same line as the tenere, crosstourer and gsa.

Agreed bro ... after trying various types of bikes, I reckon a tourer like the VStrom is most appropriate to my riding style.

A 1 litre bike would be great but the 650 i feel is more than sufficient ...

When will it be in? Cant wait to go touring again ...
