Box, Side Panniers Related Issue

Sadly, it seems that the 3 local dealers do not carry any of the OEM panniers. I have been advised to enquire with Boon Siew to request them to indent (expected to be very very ex.) or check out with LAB.

For the UK, saw quite a few panniers offfer, but they do not ship internationally.

Any idea, if we could be able to source from up north, probably Malaysia or Thailand?

I would prefer to get the OEM panniers for a more integrated look and its overall width is supposed to be within the mirrors width, so that will be a good guage. The drawbacks are that is smaller, more ex, and harder to source.

Not much.....only thing abt V35 is that from the rear the brackets don't flush so much the gap between the brackets and the endcan in only abt 1 cm....whereas the V35 brackets is a few cm apart from the endcans

yes, the shipping is damn ex, as it is for a 20kg item that measures 1000x500x500 (with repacking that is...) over economy air shipment from uk to sg

u need to take into the currency fluctuation also

anyway, if u guys wan to get new oem panniers at a reasonable cost, this is probably the very last few places i can find.

What makes these panniers precious is the scarity nt really the cost, as after shipment is comparable to all the major oem panniers

so anyone know of any protective skin that i can apply to protect the paintwork of the panniers?

No, a FF will not fit in a V35.

I have read on various forums that certain FF helmets fit nicely. I remember one saying that his L size RF-1100 fits.

Anyway I am debating whether to plonk down $1,500+ to order the OEM panniers from overseas, or to hunt locally for used V35 panniers and get the nice GIVI quick-removable racks (I don't think any VFR owners are about to sell their OEM set). Has anyone tried those racks before? Also, are the V35 panniers wider when mounted compared to the OEM? (i.e. wider than the mirrors) I need to squeeze on CTE everyday so it's a big consideration...

Hey Rhema

One needs to decides which is more important, storage space, aesthetics and splitting lane aka practicality. Storage space is often an issue for bikers so we put boxes on our bikes. Then comes the aesthetics. Panniers looks nicer than top boxes but they gets in the way of lane splitting in city traffic. Top boxes are really the most practical but do look uncle-ish. I love them tho keke its so practical and dont get in the way of my lane splitting.

So panniers are a compromise solution.

If that's the way you want to go, I know for a fact that the V35 will not (*) hold a FF (at least not a L-sized AGV nor a M-sized Arai)- see attached photo of the set I had on the Crossrunner VFR800X.

* Edited 16/11/12: My bad - according to this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaYK6gojZNA) at the 2:02 mark, the V35 will fit his KBC helmet. However, my personally experience with the aforesaid helmets proves otherwise. Others may differ depending on the helmet used. So I stand corrected. Best to bring your helmeet to Mah Motors (GIVI distributor) and have a test run. cheers.

The brackets are unintrusive with the boxes off and the panniers hug the bike very closely - yes, the fit very well.

If I'm going for a pannier set, I'll go for the GIVI for value for money, and are very rugged. It also looks great - to my eye.

Tho I personally will just stick to my top box.

Hope this helps.

You're quite right. I used to have the huge E55 box on my FZ6S and it was a big convenience. I could put my full face helmet, raincoat, laptop and more inside with room to spare. And it didn't affect the lane-splitting capability one bit. The only drawback was high speed stability. With the E55, the bike was vibrating badly at 150 km/h. I was so worried that the rack would break and the box would fly off onto the highway at speed. Without the E55, the bike could hit top speed with no drama.

I think the GIVI V35 is value-for-money mainly because you can find used sets locally at reasonable prices. They are not bike-specific, many people own them and thus there is a market for them. In fact you can transfer them to a new bike, all you need are the racks. The Honda OEM ones, OTOH, are just impossible to find and the only way to get them is to import. I noticed that second-hand bike buyers usually don't put much value on accessories, so you get hit with big depreciation.

Anyhow I am going to try out the V35 and see whether my M-size FF5 can fit. If yes, I'm going for them!

To be honest, I have no idea. There are some links to UK websites in this thread, but most of them are expired / dead.
