Hi i have some questions wanna ask,

1 - among the air filters for s4, k&N , BMC etc? are there any differences and which one is the better among them? anyone have experience to share? Im using K&N now

2 - Last time i heard Sengkwang can help convert 4-2-1 header to 4-1 header for ard $200 they cut the part and replce with 4-1 i guess.. anyone done that? whats the difference with using Hodaka SS header or Micron header? is there like any noticeable difference? anyone can share their experience?

thanks

As above.. are these necessary? my spec1 has clock 160 000+ KM and counting.. the previous owner has perform an overhaul at Bikeworkz which the receipt shows $1650 with the 1 digit in diff colour tone so i suspect the overhaul cost $650 instead of $1650.

Gasket cement instead of new top gasket was observed on the bike so i realli doubt the integrity of the overhaul.

Anyone has experiences doing the above repairs?

1. How much will these cost me?

2. Where is a good place to do them?

Primarily planning to replace timing chain, chain tensioner and probably tensioner guides and the shims on the valve if necessary.

Would appreciate any genuine inputs~ THkz!

not able to answer your direct questions, but if you doubt the integrity of the receipt, i suppose you can verify with bikeworkz..

as to your question 2. bikeworkz should be quite a good place to do it..

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.

There should be a oring type gasket if you are talking about the cam cover.

It is advisable to check your valve clearance and timing chain tensioner. Timing chain seldom needs to be changed, unlike timing belt, timing chain is much much tougher.

Anyway to do a proper timing chain change, it cannot be done via a top overhaul. You need to open up the whole engine block to do a proper job. What many mechs do instead is to cut and rivet a new chain, when done this way, you are wasting money as the new chain is not going to last as long as the one done through the proper method.

The above is the advise given to me by the mech I usually patronise when I ask him about changing the timing chain.

[Q] About to get a cb400 for myself soon hopefully this coming wed but i still do have a few questions about the models/technical issues to look out for since i dont have any frens riding one. Please do enlighten me a little more, i'll try to share what i've heard or think i know so far.

1. There are way many models,

1(a) PB1 - Steel Headers, larger fuel tank, similiar engine spec as VerS/R.

1(b) VerS/R - As above.

1© Spec1 - Vtec engages at ard 6.5rpm?

1(d) Spec2 - Vtec engages later as Spec1?

2. As for when the Vtec engages, is it not possible to adjust to a riders preference?

3. What are the "grounding" for? i keep seeing riders posting about how many groundings they made on their bikes?

Thanks for reading :-)

Hmmm... my spec 1 VTEC is 13000rpm red line.

How time flies...

Big is certainly a warning but small can be downright scary! Never underestimate the effectiveness of small.

1) For non Vtec..the side left and right cover panel is triangle in shape as compared to Vtec version which is longish.

2) There is a small hum at the top of your cylinder head cover towards the frontal part of it for Vtec.

3) Your meter do not have chrome type housing covers.

4) The back rim is larger for lower profile tyres up to 160.

5) Your clutch cable do not have a metal bend guide where it meet your clutch level for Vtec bike.

6) The engine block fins for Vtec are closer and lots more than non Vtec at the lower segment before it meet the crank case.

7) The back sprocket for Vtec is 44 teeth while non Vtec is 42 in stock configuration..owner may have change previously.

These are the prominent visual identification.

If you ride passed 6k rpm to 7k rpm..there is a "grekkkk!" sound when Vtec cuts in and you feel a very mild surge.:sian:

I won't be able to tell by the info you gave. At least base on my previous post, I get some answer from there. The best is to see the bike or have a look at your log card.

Anyone can have their meter change before, so that's not reliable. I have seen a version S with a ver R tank and meter...that's a cross breed..LOL!
