Just read the news here. Luckly I can wait longer for COE to come back down. Check out the news here http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/Singapore/Story/STIStory_647816.html

Sounds like got hidden agenda one leh. trying to put fire on the craze. I may be wrong but I do hope this article dont spur ppl to buy new bikes now. They shd instead just buy second hand bike to cool down the coe craze else ultimately, its the riders in sg that suffer. damn not worth to pay 2.5k or more for that piece of paper. with tt price, maybe can mod any second hand bike till damn nice.

You are correct. Of all 10 bikes I owned previously none of them were new bikes and most were reasonably good condition too except my Suzuki intruder 750 which had an out of alignment frame. I don't see the reason not to buy used bikes. If more riders buy used bikes, the shops will have no incentive to go and start bidding high and pushing the COE up. Or perhaps the increasing number of Harley riders are contributing to this?

today coe drop to 2,490. 44 bucks difference. hard to drop some more if riders dont cooperate lol.

hopefully those preparing to buy a new bike will think properly when they get extra funds from govt by the end of apr. If they just spur it on coe then its the same as getting nth from govt, and who benefit? not the govt, still the dealers lol? of coz this is based on the assumption that they bid lesser no of bikes for the current mth but sell higher no of bikes (bikes they purchased during low coe period), to those gan cheong buyers, at high coe. Note that this is just an assumption. I may be wrong too. Feel free to correct me.

end results? coe raise higher and then when hit 3k, another report may be out saying tt coe will rise higher to induce fear? and the price continue to rise. let see whether sg riders will unite or nt, must unite to curb the coe price. we will see the results in a couple of mths.

so riders pls put the money govt giving on repairs of newly purchased second hand bikes instead of giving back the money to govt or dealers just because of a piece of paper. the workshop mechanics worked harder to deserve your money dont u think?

yup do the math. u may find it more worth to buy second hand as not only tt u spend lesser but u help to contribute in cooling the coe prices to a more acceptable price. so eventually it will maintain within a much lower range where riders are happy with the coe and dealers are happy too since their sales figures will not have drastic changes.

just my own opinion that ladies joining into the riding culture and escalating car prices may have been reasons for coe hikes...

new riders look for new bikes... to prevent problems that they dunno... more demands... more higher bids... more sad faces like mine... sooner or later... must go keep fit and ride bicycle liao... $$$$$$

Don't know about ladies riding. So far only seen one in a few months. Their numbers are too small.

like what i replied in another thread.

if no one chiong to get new bikes after they pass their license or get their govt ang baos. then maybe they will panic and drop the coe abit to tempt ppl to buy but i still hope the buyers will continue to be tactical and wait and starve the motordiam to continue to drop even more

(1k?).

if the motortiams are thinking that they wanna repeat history of the hike in bike coe like long long time ago, by making coe drop abit then after a while rise alot more, whether they succeed or not will really depend on the buyers already. I really hope new gen of riders as well as the previous will not be committing the same mistake 20 over years ago. Since the newspaper had featured what happened eons ago and openly broadcast what the motordiam ppl think will happen (of coz say coe will rise some more, firstly can clear old stock, secondly can hike coe and thirdly its theoretically correct to say that coe supply cuts will cause short supply and thus demand increase and thus price goes up but i dont think its true when the market disagree with the price, this is just my bias assumption only, I may be wrong), y shd consumers listen to them and act as how they wan the market to become.

i really hope coe can go back to 1.2k or lower. everyone lets wait and surprise them. maybe all tahan till 1 year + later than buy haha. Maybe by then alot of car owners default their loan so alot of second hand cars availble in the market and thus nobody buy new car since coe high, then coe for car drop, less interest in ppl getting bike. Then motortiam even more panic and we buyers continue to bid at $1. then everyone can see the coe drop to $1? haha hard la but if less than 1k not bad liao right?

ok back to mugging

i guess now the possibility is rather low.. becoz i was just at LTA the coe quota really reduce a lot... and its really a kind of situations where all those who wans a transport of their own but cant afford car will most prob go for the alternative - bike...

so all we can do is wait n see lo... suck thumb and move on:(... lol.... mugging for semester test? :(studying where??

yup so they shd get a second hand bike instead of a new bike. the quota can reduce but if buyers come together and die die dont want to buy new bike at the current or higher coe. let them bid and bid for months then when inventory full and no one buying, the motortiam also dont dare to bid high next time liao. its better not to let them raise up till damn high then drop by half and make everyone feels like it already drop alot and then it maintain at tt level in the future. best now start to pressure them rather than letting the coe go up as forecast-ed by the motortiam (4k to 6k in the future)?? sg already quite an exp place to live in le, if dont curb the price now, all the new riders and young riders all have to suffer paying coe cus even if in recession, car coe drop but motorbike coe wont drop that much.

yup just my opinion again haha. there's no right or wrong in the market but I just hope maybe some day, really will have a buyer union lol.

anyway its up to every one in sg, who are intending to buy a bike, whether they want to let history repeats the hike again in the 90s or do something abt it.

yup was studying for CA but nus final exams coming in 1-2 week's time.

anyway i just renewed my coe today although bike coe expires in feb 2012. bike in good condition since I bought from my fren and he overhauled and changed to new tires already. $2026 heart pain but no choice. the ang bao govt giving is giving me the creeps that motortiam will not drop coe price much for this year unless buyers can boycott them for the whole yr. sure got people tempted to get new bike thinking govt's ang bao already subsidised a few hundred bucks from it.

but of coz u may wanna wait and see if the buyers enthu to stop purchasing new bikes or nt.

Govt handouts too little to subsidize COE. Not even enough to buy insurance for younger riders.

haha nearly forgotten abt the under-21 riders. actually not economical to ride before 21. imagine 18+ get license and u ride for that 3 yrs with 1k-1.8k plus annual insurance. 3 yrs of riding under 21 can result in paying 3k plus in excess on insurance. better dont buy since most of u will be in army and wont get to use the bike often unless u are really damn lucky to get a 8-5 post.

so those under 21, continue to save money wait for another 2 or 3 yrs then buy new bike. maybe can purchase without needing to pay by installment (i dont know how u all think la but in my opinion, pay installment means pay more to shop which is unwise but there are ppl who claim tt the shop will treat u nicer during servicing if u pay by installment but in the end its still you who paid extra fees for tt service right)?

Anyway dont buy first la. in a way u save on unnecessary insurance and u can help to reduce the no of new bike purchase. maybe by the next 2-3 yrs, buyers really form up alliance and succeed in bringing down the rising coe.

I doubt it will go down to 1k. My guess is it will stay around $1600-$1800 range by the end of this year. Good enough for me to renew COE.

i predicted it will be 2.2k - 2.4k in start of 2012 so i renewed early. maybe i was wrong since the price had done downhill earlier than I expected. lets hope that you are right and gd luck for those that are renewing their phantoms! I didnt regret buying a phantom (other than vespa, this is the next bike that looks not that ugly when the box is installed) and renewing it. the riding experience is much better than I thought!

Hi All,

I would like to check if anyone know how to calculate the COE rebate since I am thinking about scraping my bike.

Hope that someone can answer my question.

If possible PM me.

Thanks.
