Sorrie4u,

I tune my own bike, hence managed to squeeze out good fuel consumption from a 10 year old, leaky engine. Haha... my COE expires in 4 months.

I am using a 35mm carb, 150 main jet.

Good luck if you wanna bring it to a mechanic to tune it for you. One thing is guaranteed - You will pay for tuning, but F/C wont improve much. You wanna get good F/C? Do It Yourself.

I've managed to squeeze 33km/L out of an FS-plate RS125 before. And it was even maxed out on the racetrack, with no seizures. Find yourself a mech who can do that, and I will eat my own words.

Jets costs $6 apiece. I took about 1 year to fiddle around and tune my bike. Changing jets almost every 2-3 days can be a pain, cos u have to open the carb and change the jets inside. But it all pays off.

The choke RICHENS the A/F mixture. It is used in cold countries to richen the mixture to protect the engine on startup.

Chain slack could be caused by temperature differences.

Sorrie4u, not that pple don't wanna teach newbies like you. But teach also no use. You are not interested to learn. I posted so many posts a few pages back. And here I am repeating it all over again. As a copywriter I get paid to write. If i charged for my posts, I'd be making $1k per post. Go read it, don't understand, come for DIY and ask me to my face.

Edward,

It's basic courtesy to inform the pple u made an appointment with in advance that you are unable to turn up. Just FYI.

donhxw,

Reliable mechs are few and far between. Most mechs in SG are uneducated and dont know what they are talking about. Lean/rich, carb settings, etc they can look convincing, but I've talked to many many mechs, even those claimed to be good, they dont quite know what they're talking about. Doing something for a long time does not make you a pro. You can do doing it for 30yrs, but doing it wrongly for 30yrs, and just getting by. Like running all carburetion 'rich' to play it safe. No seisures, yet, but poor F/C.

Buy a tuning manual off Amazon, study it, and do your own tuning. You'll appreciate your bike and its engineering considerations more than if you just pay someone to fiddle with it.

seraph,

I am not the master. I also learnt it from other masters. Their names are Hanes, Eric Gorr, and the Motorcycle Carburetor Tuning Manual.

d3rRiCk,

You are correct that you shouldnt blip your throttle before switching off your engine. Those who want to destroy your engine sooner, please continue this bad habit.

If you want your engine to start up immediately, you can also try this:

1) Kill Switch "ON"

2) Hold the starter (ignition button) for 2-3 cranks

3) Kill Switch "OFF"

4) Start

Cranking the engine without the sparking draws fresh fuel into the chamber. Don't crank for too long as it will flood the chamber if your mixture is rich. If you don't tune your carb yourself, and always take it to a mechanic to do tuning, chances are, your air/fuel mixture is RICH. I will bet my last dollar of my next paycheck on that.

Once there is a fresh charge in the engine, it should start cleanly on the first spark.

Believe nothing you hear; and only half of what you see.

Do or do not; there is no 'try'.

DIY Session (Last DIY for 2007)

Date: 16 December 2007 Sunday

Time: 11am

Address: Blk 21 Joo Seng Road

Fee: $50 for newbies, FOC for regulars (lol)

Those who have been coming for DIY, no charge ah. hahahaha

Be there or be square (and foolishly shell out for a mech who doesnt know jack schit to service your bike when u can do it better yourself)!

Derrick, please get a bottle of Maxima Cool-aid and a bottle of distilled water (neutral pH water) and I will help you with the flushing of the coolant.

In typical Singaporean fashion, all the talk about reviving the ARC database is turning out to be NATO (No Action, Talk Only). Just a sweet, gentle reminder : the ARC Forum will be shut down for good, and taking all the invaluable DIY and self-help information along with it, by 25 December.

Don't ask us what to do. Discuss among yourselves what you want to do, then let us know. Do you want to migrate the database? Or pay us a yearly webhosting fee to keep it running? And if so, who will be the mods, and admin?

Come up with a good proposal, and we just might roll with it. Otherwise, it's time to say "Buckle up, Dorothy. Cos Kansas is going bye-bye".

im willing to take over ARC forums and stuff but i felt that why dont u just a free hosting instead and just buy a domain name? if nobody's doing it then i'll be glad to help u all reconstruct and maintain the site.
