The temperature sensor connector should not be heatshrinked. A heck-care mech who's pissed with something that can't be disconnected easily, will just cut the wire and patch back using black tape.

Till this day, I have yet to find a mech who takes that little pride in his work to connect everything appropriately. A total technical-idiot only a few years ago, I had to force myself to learn how to do everything so that I wont leave my bike in the hands of the apprentice who picked up his 'skills' from some other mech with no formal training, and still have to pay for it.

Furthermore if normal (not the glue-type) heatshrink is used - water, petrol and other gunk may get in and affect the signal ... Which means bad temperature readings

For duplicating wiring harnesses, normal black tape is a no. Especially in the engine compartment, things get too hot and the adhesive dries out. The tape unwraps and the protection is no more. Best to use amalgamating tape like this ...

Dun forget cigarette lighters to seal the heatshrink ... :giddy:

I do intend to leave black tape out of the equation... hahahaha. Seriously, I hate black tape, and any mech that uses it. I prefer soldering and heat-shrink tubes, they keep everything neat and tight. No need to worry about changing sticky, gooey tape like changing the soiled dressing of a wound.

Thanks for educating me on the amalgamating tape. I'll be shopping for those soon!

Do drop by on 27 Sept if you can. We're looking forward to meeting you.

Cheers!

Come to think about it.. Swivel Gear - Is it a good idea? I mean, like for example, if I use some crappy gear oil for about a month, its gonna be hard to kick up to gear 2 onwards. So if its really hard to kick up, would the swivel fold up the little stem when we try to go to a higher gear?

If the swivel part is hard to fold up, wont it deem the whole lever somewhat useless? :p

I think I've think too much into this thing. Starting to sound skeptical :faint:

Oh yeah!.... :slapforehead: Roight roight!! My mistake.... I forgot about that little discrepancy with the 08 models.

Yes, you won't be needing the RAVE ECU, just what is mentioned - Valve, valve motor (solenoid), valve cable, and valve housing (includes internal seal, spring, o-ring, valve housing gasket, and 2 hex screw bolts).

Hope to see you for DIY! Even if you're not doing anything, there's PLENTY OF FREE ALCOHOL! :D woo hoo!

period! my trip is in end of OCT , so i am coming over to introducing myself and know more about the riders around what do you say lacrimosae? will not be a disturb to you ppl right?

cheers

Vik, it's quite alright, I took a gamble when I decided to use the old bracket from another bike.

Most Aprilia riders are first time bike owners still battling their teenage acne and can hardly afford the upkeep of the bike, let alone the replacement parts.

It's sad that most of these bikes will never live out their full potential before getting scrapped. Most parts from scrapped bikes are never in their original condition. Even bikes that are claimed to be accident-free usually have already seen their share of scrapes and spills.

I was more vexed with myself for convincing myself to think that the bracket would be any different. The next time I'm removing my bracket I'll change my meters too, cos the procedure is just too time and labour intensive... ugh

Btw, let me know if you need a new low fuel sensor. haha

Very true. I'm so sad 2 stroke is a dying breed.

Low fuel sensor? Free? Wooooo...

Parts from PJ Engineering have arrived.

However, they have informed me that they do not have Oil Tank Service Kit, and have refunded me the money, which I will refund to you.

The Singapore Government has imposed a Goods and Services Tax on this shipment, so you'll have to pay a little more to cover it. I will inform you of your final cost.

Now, we have a few more parts to arrive from Ultimate Parts, Dellorto, and Tyga Performance! Woooot!

Believe nothing you hear; and only half of what you see.

I have a question. I was running at 6th gear, arnd 158km/h, and suddenly the engine died on me. So i clutched in, rolled to the filter lane and after a few minutes got the biek up and running again. This was the second time this happened, and now my piston ring sounds are more audible. Anyone can help explain this phenomena..? It's really conking me out sia. Please help advise.. :(

There's a loud whirring-like sound emitting from my engine block area. I'm scared to ride also sia. Couldn't be the gear balancers right. Hmm.. :dot:

And yeah if this time i gotta pay for the repairs, then that's it.

ReaLLy? U kena before too huh! Usually i'd blip the throttle when i clutch in. Just now my wrist was stiLL twisting the throttle, then the bike pengsan. :faint:

I clutched in and released bit by bit to see if the bike can restart, but can't so parked at the road shoulder. No cranking sound from the bike till i turned on the choke. :?

So mine now has the similar rattling sounds like yours the other time i guess. I wanna see what my mech says abt this. I just hope my block is still ok sia. o_O

Thanks for the heads-up bro!! Let's hope it's a minor case then. Otherwise i'm fu**ed...

U got any lobang for RS250 ('95 - '97) full-power ECU? Original cylinder head and block gaskets too ... :)

Orders can be placed with Ultimate Parts. I'm sure if you called them they may be able to find the full-power ECU for you too.

bro lawrence, can i add in orders? i wan get 34mm carb, manifold inlet, piper cross air filter, some of my intended list. do advise? thanks. hehe. pm me.

Sure! I will be placing more orders with them soon. Will post it online again, and you can update me on the things you need by then. I won't be able to remember if you tell me now.

Sounds scary!

Might be a loose piston ring. It may have jiggled free when revving high and allowed some gas to pass through, killing the combustion.

I think it might be a good idea to open your cylinder head just to take a look at the piston rings and the color of the crown.

Errmm... U know what happened to mine right.. Took so long to get a good setup. I thought i got it, then suddenly now the bike become like this sia.. And yeah if this time i gotta pay for the repairs, then that's it.

A whirring sound from bottom of engine usually has 2 likely causes- loose conrod, or damaged gear balancers... Either way, not going to be cheap. But have to be quickly replaced before they cause more damage to other perfectly OK neighbouring parts.

I've got a perfectly tuned Keihin PWK 35mm on my gf's bike that you might be interested to look at. :p Can drop by tonight, or on 27 Sep Sunday for DIY 101. It's got power all-round, fantastic peak, and it's even better tuned than my own Dellorto (f*ck! I'm super envious!) - it was painstakingly & lovingly tuned to perfection by my buddy Chris over a year. Maybe we can use the same jets for yours?

no meet up tonight?

Well..... would love to. But nearby my place as my gf's bike has a warped front disc rotor.

Yeah dude. Tell me abt it!! I practically jumped outta my seat and skin just now. The rear wheel almost locked. So i was lucky managed to clutch-in in time. :sian:

And might be true also that the ring jiggled free since i just changed a new piston set. I sincerely hope the block is unscathed though. It'd be a disaster. Gear balancers wtill ok i guess. They have spares there if i'm not mistaken.. :faint:

I'd be bringing it down to you-know-who for rectification. He surely sian to see me again for the third time in a row this week. :dozed: I'm also worried abt the neighbouring parts too since it happened before on my '03. Learned from that unfortunate incident. :(

So if u sure abt ur Keihin carbs, can i give it a try soon? Not tonight though. I'm dropping by the shop from work. Maybe on the DIY session itself. If it still ain't comfy, then i'll take ur DellorTo if that's possible. This PWK is giving me a major headache. Thanks for the advice dude! I'll beep u soon. :thumb:
