hi guys. im riding 07' aprilia but recetnly seems to have problems with it.

First of all.

when high reving. ard 7-8rpm the pipe will sound very very loud n if i were to throttle more, the bike will sometimes lose speed. not much drop in rpm but can feel the power lost. but sometimes it flies really fast.

exhast loose?? guide me pls. haas.

anyway this dun happen all the time but bike is still under warranty n i wanna get things fixed asap. loL.

secondly gear seems really hard to kick up or down. esp. when the bike is hot.

clutch plate seem to be damaged or something.. is it due to crappy engine oil the shop gave me?? it's half syn btw.

wad engine oil or gear oil do u guys usually use? i would love to make it as smooth as possible.

im noob in all this technical things although i've been riding for so long. (i dun even know wad a value or block look like.) LoLs. haven got time to have my hands on my bike.

please guide me thru. thanks.

Running in doesnt mean must relax2.. if your bike hardly hit 80 90. got problem liao.

just imagine. 1st gear barely hit 20.. 2nd gear barely hit 30. 4th - 6th - 10th - 100th gear barely hit 70km/h

u check everything from carb to valve seems ok. test. still the same. neutral.. blow abit here and there.. rpm refuse to hit 12. confirm CDI powercut.

N O O B ! *chik chik! BANG! BANG! KEBABOOOM!!!!*

- for all the so call "read manual people". use for freaking brain for god sake. Manual Doesnt stated all abt e bike. what they put in. built from what. the ah ma make the frame using plastic/metal/rubber, the ah pa make the tire using what kind of rubber etc. the ah kor install this CDI inside blablablabla....

anyway. for the newest RS. need to change CDI. juz for the info.

thats y the bike like **** up abit hardly hit 80 90.

- to *EHEM!!!!*. "I'm still waiting for my cookies!" =x

sorry la bro, i dont know how to use my brain. but i know how to READ the manual. if u really do read the manual, there are instructions on how to run in your bike. which RPM range to which mileage. and Yes, i do agree with you that they dont tell me what material ah pa used to make their stock tyres. At least you got that right.

and usually during run in, you bike will sure feel abit sluggish. its something you gotta cope with until you hit the right mileage.

and fyi, certain rs 125 models are unable to hit the 12k RPM mark as they have their stock exhaust and possible restricted CDI. if you change the exhaust, you might be able to hit 12k RPM.

Only RS 125 '09 and above have the piaggio CDI which you will need to remove/change before being able to experience the full power of the bike.

As for the 35 bucks, it's payment upon collection.

Hard to figure this out based on your half-baked description. 7-8,000rpm isn't high rev, so its a little conflicting to say high rev and 7-8,000rpm in the same line. Assuming you mean your exhaust pitch changes at that rpm, it might just be the valve opening at 8,000rpm.

If power dips at 8,000rpm, like mine, it could mean the valve is opening too early. There isn't anything we can do about it. The valve CDI is opening the valve a little too early and the change in exhaust flow doesn't compensate till 8,500rpm.

When you say 'sometimes', what circumstances is it under? Under 1/4 or 1/2 or 3/4 or WOT (wide open throttle)? All have different implications.

What do you mean by 'flies really fast'? Do you mean a high rate of acceleration, or simply the bike can travel fast (again, subjective).

Can't know what's wrong until you are specific.

Could be loose exhaust pipe, loose spark plug, a power dip due to the imperfect ports (like my bike), or loose needle jet (hey, this happened to me before. same symptoms).

anyway this dun happen all the time but bike is still under warranty n i wanna get things fixed asap. loL.

Under warranty where? Actually, it doesn't matter because as long as you are sending your bike to a mechanic in Singapore, it's going to come back sh1tty anyway.

secondly gear seems really hard to kick up or down. esp. when the bike is hot.

Could be loose cable, insufficient pressure on the pressure plate, or just bad or degraded gear oil. Bike shops usually use cheap gear oil. If they think they can get away with using cooking oil, they'll use that too.

We all want to help, but you need to help us help you.

Too early as in too early in the day, or too early on the calendar? If you work all day on Sunday, and can't come for DIY, maybe you can arrange with someone to help you out after 10pm. If you mean its too soon, maybe can come for our Oct DIYs.

In the meantime, change your spark plug and gear oil to fully synthetic. I recommend Silkolene Maintain. Cheap and smooth and long-lasting.

(there a very very huge difference of pitch but not much power boost until like 10rpm. bike will only acc alot at rpm 10.)

When you say 'sometimes', what circumstances is it under? Under 1/4 or 1/2 or 3/4 or WOT (wide open throttle)? All have different implications.

(sometimes i can acc smoothly till 10~11rpm without the pitch changing that much. but when the pitch suddenly change at 8rpm i know the bike isnt in the mood to run. Haas.)

What do you mean by 'flies really fast'? Do you mean a high rate of acceleration, or simply the bike can travel fast (again, subjective).

(sorry i meant hig rate of acc. power of the bike released.)

Could be loose cable, insufficient pressure on the pressure plate, or just bad or degraded gear oil. Bike shops usually use cheap gear oil. If they think they can get away with using cooking oil, they'll use that too.

eh lawrence.. u still here uh? how are u anyway?

Actually I'm in Istanbul. Think I'm jet-lagged cos I'm sleepless here for a few days already, same as when I was in Dubai.

DIY is primarily for me to work on my bike. I only invite guests to join in in the hope that they learn something. Knowledge is power, and if it helps you save some money, or prevent you from getting ripped off, why not?

No point charging because I'm just sharing what I learnt from tuning and maintenance manuals bought off Amazon, information that is readily available for those who bother to look. But some people don't know where to start looking, so I just want to give them a head start.

We all need extra income but I believe sharing knowledge should be free. Only those who want to help themselves will come.

I'm not as good as lawrence, but maybe i can check it out for you, before you bring it to the Doctor of DIY!

What nonsense... We all started from zero and I'm still learning too. Anyway, you probably know as much I do regarding our bikes.

Dude, Where to get the Sikolene and how much? Fully Syn?

I bought direct from Silkolene. I think you can try bike shops that carry Silkolene products? Call Silkolene to check who their distributors are.

(there a very very huge difference of pitch but not much power boost until like 10rpm. bike will only acc alot at rpm 10.)

Honestly, I have no idea. Let me sleep on this. I'll try to figure it out.

(totally nth we could do? not even trying to tune the bike to the desired set up?)

Nothing can be done. The valve is electronically controlled by the RAVE unit CDI.

(sometimes i can acc smoothly till 10~11rpm without the pitch changing that much. but when the pitch suddenly change at 8rpm i know the bike isnt in the mood to run.)

This sounds like a random or intermittent problem, which clearly indicates that it cannot be caused by tuning, which will cause the same problem under the same conditions. If the problem arises occasionally and not all the time, it could be a loose part.

(was ur problem settled? or it could not be saved?)

On 3 different occasions, it was a loose exhaust, a loose spark plug, and a loose needle jet (circlip had broken off, so needle was happily changing its height as it pleased). But the symptoms of all 3 problems were the same- erratic power delivery.

Anyway another important thing. my bike moves off even when fully clutched in at gear 1. it's as if i'm half clutching.

Loose cable, damaged cable, poor or degraded gear oil.

i'm working 6 days a week from 11-10. will try to squeeze in time for diy-ing my bike. :)

at the mean time guess i'll change the gear oil to better ones n see if my bike runs smoother.

Also check the clutch cable to make sure it is not frayed or about to break. Tighten it slightly, about a quarter to half turn out.

Thanks guys for help. will go change gear oil on friday n see if it runs better n smoother. :) will update u guys.

Yes, please update us. Vik, maybe can try to help our friend here after hours? I used to have a 10am-11pm 7days/week job. I understand your pain. haha... I'll try to arrange for a late night DIY one of these days.

Cheers!

Hi there,

a few things you might want to check out on your bike and get back to us.

If you feel a power loss around the 7-8krpm mark, you could be experiencing a stuck valve if the power delivery comes in around 10krpm. Wash your valve and see if it helps. If it's just a little bogging in that range, it could be that the valve is opening a little early.

Our bikes require lots of TLC (Tender Loving Care for those who don't know). Use fully synthetic gear oil if possible. At the same time, your clutch could still be engaged even when you fully pull the clutch lever. This could be due to the lever itself, the cable, or the way the clutch was assembled at factory. This can be adjusted and should be adjusted. If your bike moves off when fully clutched in on 1st gear, this is most likely your problem.

Do check these 2 main issues out and let us know if it helps.

Hmm true, although it's quite subjective ...

Earlier a mech at some bike shop passed me a customer's GPS charger (cigarette lighter socket type), and asked me if he could cut the wire and just connect it to a new cigg plug ... Man the purpose of that charger is to step it down to 5 volts - stopped a potential disaster of an exploding Garmin Nuvi. :faint:

Well so far I haven't heard of any "Aprilia Specialists" or "Carb Profile Specialists" in Singapore ... Some just ramp it, turn the air screw - "IT'S SET!!!", while others just change the main/pilot jets and just won't bother with replacing the needle or slide

So now I've got a prob with 0 to ¼ throttle ... In this range, engine is very likely to die when moving off or going slow - cos there's too much fuel going in

Have encountered so many mechs who dun make full use of this
