Everyone started out slow. Since you say so, then everyone can say they're slow and compete in novice class instead.

Define 'fast' , 'slow' . What's the purpose of having a split class forming Novice and Open then ?

Every year, there will be Novice riders that can ride faster than Open riders. Does this means the faster Novice rider should ride in Open class and vice-versa ? Would it be fair to either class ?

:thumb:

Espen rite? If the rule permits, y would anyone disagree? Anyway i only rode the bike for 3 months, so i'm still pretty new in the class. Have been in 2 stroke 250 for all my races but i guess u already know that.

I remember what Esmond said to me when we were all wondering if he would be placed in Novice or Open in the 600s class for his first ride in supersport:

"I rather be last in expert than first in novice..."

I respect that guy, always looking for a challenge.

Ya but he still signed up in novice. mss rd2 2008

The team wanted him there. He was riding a team R6, so some things were not up to him. He is a very easy going guy one of the best natural riders I've ever seen. I'd rather not involve him in this discussion anymore as it does not involve him directly.

One of the red rooster R6 riders was also placed in the expert class in 600s even though he had never touched a 600 in his life, or ridden anything that big before the race weekend. He could have argued that he was new to the bike too and gone on to wipe the floor with the rest of the novice class in 2008, but he did'nt.

Given he was a smaller cc class champion in Sepang, but should that make a difference? Is a person placed in the expert category when he upgrades to a higher class solely because he was a lower category champ? I think not, because there are many people out there that have been upgraded to the expert class even though they were not podium finishers.

It has to do with whether he has raced before, period. There were a few exceptions however, like one guy who entered one round the year before but never finished the race, he was granted entry into the novice category.

Some superbikers were still placed in the Superbike expert category despite their argument that they had not taken part in years.

You yourself mentioned that you have been riding the bike for only 3 months, but have been finishing so close to the top 3 among most of the PG regulars in 5 lap challenges on a stock standard bike.

Leave the novice class to the novice riders, the first timers in racing, the newbies to circuit riding. Give them a chance mate, you are by no means a novice rider with the amount of track time and races under your belt.

We all know MSS rules are like rubber, they can be bent but it does not mean that we have to.

I aint siding Espen or picking on you, but everyone knows you are obviously not a novice.

I have nothing against you and hope that you dont take this personally.

No hard feelings,

Hartholomew.

Alamak the top 3 that day was bcos all the other fast riders weren't there due to the weather. u see in the 2nd video i posted was 9th man. And we were damn far apart man from the leaders. At least that guy was champoin, i'm like nothing as u can see the results for the past 2 years was pathetic. And funny thing is i am not like fast till i can threaten to win the noivce championship man. But anyway like i said, joinning or not is not confirmed. If sponsored i will join if not then no way. Spend too much money already. :sian:

Yup this happen to me back in 2004...1st time joining MSS race in 600cc but they put me in expert class..even complain to them that i was 1st timer in MSS..They reply: U enter Johor series race before & we consider u in expert class...

there were at least 2 riders who did 1.15-1.16s and regular podium faces who set fastest laps in the Aprilia Cup racing in novice supersport. and even they were not able to translate their speed from 250s to 600s. the categorisation has flaws anyway and doesn't seem to apply to everyone... there were some who got away as most of us know.

i like that spirit of fighting against all odds; but the fighting spirit dies off when you enter an unlevel playing ground 300km away costing thousands of dollars and you're struggling for results or even enjoying yourself. spidey has gone thru all that and i can understand it's not easy.

just my two cents, if i may.

Very simple. Finished a single competitive race in a single racing calendar. Next year, please go up to Open.

Concurring with Hart, leave Novice cat for first timers in their virgin racing year.

No point force upgrading a rider to Open Category when his/her performance is not there yet.

If every rider based on 1 yr racing experience goes to open, then we should have at least 20 "EXPERIENCED" local riders ready to take part in Asian GP.

But, still have to follow BLACK AND WHITE RULES. Can anyone with relevant info post this here?

MSS is still a Club level event with international competitors, not an international event.

With such limited practice and qualifying times, putting both Novice and Open Category on same grid, why argue so much about taking part in Open Cat.

Want to know what is Open Cat, go to Asian GP.

Hi anyone knows what is the requirement for entering novice 600 class?

i can anot huh?

i guess no point asking eligibilty on racing as a novice if u're set ur mind on racing as a novice as what ppl say wont matter as u wish to race as a novice:faint:.just go register as a novice and see if anyone protest...if so then just race open category if u still want to race :thumb:

maybe they want to bring the glory back themself :cheeky::faint: what i feel is just register and see what the outcome is....if ppl protest just race open for round 1...and if u feel u not up for it....go back and keep practicing for next year open category.:thumb: this is just my humble opinion...maybe racers could give better inputs here.

Hahahahah...

Didn't u guys know those ppl out there their BenchMark Impression are MotoGP/World SuperSport/World SuperBike Class...

Then they will awwwww at u...

If u make it to Johor series/Malaysian Super Series...

Its juz low class racers categories..

So wat u made it to Champion/runner up or juz entering the class(Novice or Open)..

Ur STILL juz a nobody rider who entered in some bloody competition...

But to me its a Personal achievement...

No Tom,**** or Rossi..can take that away from u..

& i did it with a whole lot of fun...

Hi all,

As for me , i wish to join as novice as this is my first race in sepang , but too bad may be i wont as financial a bit tight. As for u spiderman, if u wish to join the novice or open, it up to u to decide not other. So just dont bother wat the F*** ppl tell u to do unless there is a protest from the official say u cant ,then u got no choice. So my suggestion is go ahead to join the novice. If my financial is ok by the time came, then i c u there .If not wish u good luck.

Hey Alex..

Wat hapen to your Spirit? I used to knoe u as a person who dont give a damn which class/cat they put u, still u race..

As i can recalled, u joined MSS (250cc) back in 2006 after just 1 track day ride at Sepang.. Dat is pretty amazing spirit u and amba had.. Not many ppl wud do dat.. Both of u ride up all the way from sg just to race.. Now i never see anyone ride up to race in MSS.. I admired the sportsmanship you and amba showed back then.. I was just a pit boy to some racer back then..

Here wat i knoe.. As long as you have raced before in Johor/Sepang, you will be racing in the Open category the year after.. Ive seen Open category rider much much slower than the Novice but still they are in Open cat.. Some even get lapped by the front runner.. My guess is they just dont give a damn and continue to enjoy each race they participate in.. And over few rounds, they do eventually improved their lap times.. I believe thats shud be everyone main focus.. Improving lap times.. NOT PODIUMS..

As Hart had mentioned, Rajini used to race in KIPS 150 in 2007.. Last year Ranjini enrolled in Novice but SIC put him in Open class although he never ride a 600cc prior to the race weekend..

Another thing that many might not aware.. The NOVICE category are actually open to ONLY Malaysian holding AAM license.. Back then since they started introducing Novice category, the malaysian will vote, to allow or not to allow any foreign novice, if any.. I believe, Milton Poh go thru this when he started racing in Novice cat.. To simplify, if there is around 6 Malaysian Novice, then 2 or 3 foreign Novice, the Malaysian Novice will vote to allow the Foreign Novice to race in Novice Cat or Open Cat.. Ive seen this vote in 2006..

So, in 2007 when i decided to race, myself and Hart prepared to be voted out but back then they dont have 6 novice in SbK so i guess we're quite lucky.. But they still do a check with Johor and SMSA.. Especially if you stand on the TOP of the Podium.. I was informed that SIC/AAM did a check on my racing background..

Spidey,

Ive seen you ride the R6 and i personally think you wud not have problem doin below 1:14 in your 1st race.. You can still try to race in Novice but i wud not advise u to do dat.. Just be urself with ur good spirit/sportmanship and join the race.. And PLEASE dont overhaul ur engine anymore at Concorde Inn :faint:
