searched the internet for reviews, seems the EBC is rather good, other than being pricey.

got quotes from the current MO but guess will just get from workshop if price is reasonable, dun mind paying a little more for the convenience and labor (shops gotta earn their margin) :p

already checked with FJT... stock pads are more expensive and do not have HH or whatever friction ratings

asked around and got 2 different recommendations (dun consider cost factor):

(a) front use the good HH pads for extra braking power, rear use the normal organic pads cos may fishtail if rear is too strong... commonly used setup for bikes.

(b) can use HH pads for both front and rear.

i'ld probably be more kiasi and choose option (a), i.e. front use HH pads, rear use organic pads.

any comments bros?

To have the rear brake pads less "吃" may negate the purpose of our CBSand affect the brake bias. So far my EBC does not wear out the disc faster but I do noticed less brake dust.

Posted

Also when I changed them previously, the rear showed more wear than the front. Maybe the previous guy used more rear brakes, or maybe it's more demanding on the rear as it's the driven wheel and has higher loading.

I am using Fizz brake shoe for both front and rear.

My 1st replacement from stock to Goldfren ( front and rear )

The rear brake shoe wear off after 6 months of usage while the front shoe wear off only 30%. ( I guess i must have used a lot of rear braking. )

I am using Fizz for both front and rear. So far so good and it cost only 25 bucks for a single set.

Just got back from Genting & KL.

Riding up and back was dry dry as promised by somebody up there.

However they did let go some water on Friday (can't hold bladder too long) when we were shopping in KL. No harm cause we were indoors.

Anyway, some review of 2up riding, with the help of my wife who had pillion on the older SW to Genting before.

Wind blast felt was more then the previous model. Pillion got hit by the wind and very uncomfortable at 120km/h onwards. I was going 130-140km/h most times.

Bike less stable then previous possibly due to shape of front cowling. The old model cuts through the wind better.

No difference in power.

But overall, 400cc definitely not for 2up touring. Sure kana smoked by Green Green hornets...

so uncle, you're using HH for both front & rear?

think should cost about 130 for that combination :p

Yes, using both. Around that price when I did it 1 year back. But somebody told me should be much cheaper than that, esp since USD is low now.

Hi guys, thinking of trading in my SW for a bigger bike, in particular ST1300. Any advice?

other than the big 29 liters tank & the low speed handling. you won't like the rest.

high speed wobble (Pan Wift)

short wheel base thus unstable at high speed

very heavy

Haha. Hinting ppl to get the GL instead so that your's will be the ONLY STX amongst our kakis?

GL... 2nd hand:

OTR $37k (price of 1 known unit)

Trade in my SW $13k

Loan $24k @4%

5yrs = $480 per month or

6yrs = $413 or

7yrs = $365

Wah. eat grass everyday liao.

I'll never commit instalment of over $300 per month.

That's the limit.

However... a cheap cheap $8k ST11 is another story...

Wow, never know that ST13 still considered short wheelbase. Looks damn big to me. So seems like bigcow may change ride again :)

GL not in my sight yet, unless I'm not staying in SG.

What interests me in ST13 is the V4 engine. Don't think will have chance to drive V6 or V8 car in SG, so a V4 2-wheeler entrices me. Looked at VFR1200 with DCT which approx "automatic". But no storage and forward-leaning pose not uncle friendly. So far never belief in taking loans for bikes. Somebody paid $680 monthly for 5 years for the VFR1200. That's 25% interests or about $8k. I prefer to full settle in cash else don't buy.

Wait til end of this year if possible ba. VFR1200T shld b coming out n will replace STX. N yes, ST11 n ST13 have one of the shortest wheelbase for sports tourer.. So is the FJR...

Anyway, if u search online for vfr1200t shld see some news abt it..
