the main diifference between semi and fully synthectic is the oil composition...

fully synthectic as the name implies 100% manmade..as for semi...its a mixture of manmade and other oils.

synthectic can withstand higher operating temp and pressur...thus rule of thumb is synthectic 1 chnage = 2 chnges of mineral oil....so semi is somewhere in between..

but dont be fooled by all sort of claims..there are cheapy synthectic oils ..mobil ($20/L or there about) is the one i would use but th cost is about up to 5x of cheapy type.

you can buy the oil at spare parts shop..

eg...the block in front of planet has a shop selling all sorts of parts and oil..along changi road near AIA there is one too..

cahnge engine oil...let engine cools down..remove top up cap..remove drain bolt at bottom of engine...

after oil is drained clean and and tighten drain bolt and refill through top up hole..cap.

Never argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience every time:dot:

So what kind of engine oil is recommended ? Can we just use normal engine oil ?

just like buying a drink..up to u. u get a free drink from the tap o u can pay top dollar for perrier..it is your choice....

for me the age of the bike comes into play...old bikes use mineral oil..

new bike where performance is required use synthetic oil (not unknown brand type)....

at planet..she will recommend to use NASA (made in Malaysia..) brand semi..is this good enough?? u decide.

For cars above 5 years, people used to fall back on mineral cos the gap of piston and cyclinder are wider...due to wear and tear... but thinner the lube... gives a better FC....

i'm not sure for bike, if using fully synthetic. for old bike..... will it be too thin as a lube...?

My 2 cents.....old bikes like phantom and such due to wear and tear, its good to use semi-syn oil as its much thicker. Fully-syn oil can be used....but usually its more expensive and mostly for performance bikes. Fully-syn oil can last u longer in terms of oil change. U want a good oil Josh....recommend u Motul 300V 5w40.........$31 per bottle. Sure u wun regret it....but dunno if its good for the bike.

I want to see the world and i'm pretty sure the world wants to show a little something to me.

here it goes again...

Mineral oil is the most basic of the engine oil which is made up of vintage carcass...it can be used for phantom as oppose to what some has mentioned....mineral oil is considered lousier in quality because of its natural composition that is not as good as lab formulated ingredient.

Fully synthetic is formulated in lab with all the what nots...

and semi-synthetic is self-explanatory....

if u ask me what a old phantom needs....my choice would be mineral oil or maximum semi-synthetic....fully syn would be close to useless for a phantom that has gone thru a top overhaul before, because its viscosity level is very low, meaning....when its at its operating temperature, it'll flow easily like water...

and that a engine having gone thru a overhaul, its internal chamber is slightly enlarge, and also the piston ring is of constant size, no matter how many overhauls u go thru...hence u need a thicker oil to actually gap the diff which fully syn is not really able to do, they are only made to flow easily and also withstand high operating temps when an engine is operating at peak temp most of its time eg: race cars or bikes...

what kind of engine oil u use is actually ur preference, most impt is not to neglect ur regular oil change and u'll be safe....

Cheers!

My technician fellow keep pushing me to use semi synthetic, and he warn me if use normal one, will damage the engine gear easily. And every time 2 Little instead of one, cost me $24 , feel like kanna rip off.

2L? 2L of EO into a Phantom engine? Screw the "normal EO damage engine gear" mumbo jumbo, ur engine probably already drowning in EO.

I dont think can pour full 2L inside ...

total capacity should be around 1.2L ... Unless you drain all the EO or something, everytime change EO only need 1L.

Your mech ask u get 2 bottle tell him go play spider or change job cos he know nuts.

2 bottle mineral oil for $24 means $12 each. if im not wrong, $15 or $16 can get semi syn oil already.
