Motul 300V for my opinion is of top grade, smooth riding. Plus changing of gears have never been

any easier. Major problem is cost. I still have a bottle of Motul 300V left to use. Might be changing

to a different EO once i used up the last one. It'll dry up my wallet faster than it can reach the 2500k

mark. Based on reviews, should consider trying Chessa Chex 9000.

Pandora's Kitten - This EO should be used for light duty or emergency top up only, with speeds not exceeding 90kph. Oil loses protective qualities (foaming) at highway speeds or when on overtaking power, leading to loud roaring sound. Rating 0/5

Pandora's Kitten - Used Chex 9000 since June 2010. After almost 1 year, bike's performance is still "as good as freshly overhauled". Oil is very tolerant of harsh operating conditions and my Phantom has guaranteed zero oil consumption (no need to check anymore). Gear changes super smooth and engine is relatively quiet compared to when running Castrol or Motul. My bike when purchased 4th hand had some valve or timing chain lubrication issues but after changing to Chex 9000, no repairs needed to be made to the engine even 30,000kms later. Rating 6/5

You know, i was rather sceptical about all the oil ratings till i chanced upon this.

Exactly why I use 15W50 for my bike. 10W40 is the minimum.

HEllo everyone,

can I just top up my engine oil rather the changing it?

Will it harm the bike if I mix the engine oil with different brand?

dun tink it shud have alot of issues.. nv really heard of probs wif different brand.. but d prob is, if u dun change, alot of particles and carbon builds up inside.. although the amount of EO can be kept sufficient, the dirt inside it just keeps accumulating.. n rmb, our bike doesnt hv a filter.. might nt be good in d long run.. :)

Shouldn't be a problem if its a small amount. The number 5W40 or 10W40 just tell the thickness of the EO. What is more important is to see if there are friction busters in the Car EO, which can cause clutch slippage if used in a bike with wet clutch like phantom. But since the amount is little you dont have to worry.

like pulser mentioned, shud be okay if the amount is little. btw, talking about container trucks, i might be trying heavy duty engine oil (HDEO) next.. most probably Shell Rimula or Mobile Delvac... seen the reviews around (malaysian cubs) and it seems to work as good as premium motorcycle EO despit costing as low as $11...

although, on the other hand, i might not want to... cux im loving my Belray Thumper 15W50!!! finally an EO that truly does not evaporate in my old phantom! its been almost a year of riding it and after going through more than 4 different brands, an EO that can take my hard-revving and clutchless upshifts without any fuss and still be smooth.. highly recommended! though i bet it applies to individual bikes lar.. like hw Chex 9000 still evaporates in mine..

Castrol Power 1 15w40 (Thailand) 100 baht / S$4.26

VidaK - Gear changing is a little stiff, engine sounds rough and top speed is much lower than before 2/5

jianping - worst EO on my bike, engine feels less powerful, noisy and rough.. need to throttle alot more to attain 90km/hr on expressway.. avoid this.. i bought at $12.. 1/5 :nono:

http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/3716/dsc00359e.jpg

Chessa Chex 9000 10w50 (planet) $16 (UM) $18

VidaK - No gear changing problems, or other problems. Although there is more vibration then quality oils, it is good value for your money 4/5

jtzx- Great fully syn Eo. which is value for money which can last at least 2.5k millege 5/5

armani123sg- gd, no problems but didnt feel any diff comparing to FUCHS brand.

naim - awesome value for money. the smoothness is remarkable considering the price. but felt it become a little rough wen hitting the 2k mark

TheChosenX - Didnt like it at all. Was very rough all the way. And even in my new bike it evaporated almost 20% of it. But then again is value for money. 2/5

http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/5391/photodw.jpg

FUCHS Silkolene 15w50 (planet) $10

byon - very good at start, throttle on and i can feel the pull from my bike never before. significant performance degraded after 1k.

Hydher - I hated it after 1k, gear changing was rough as hell and stuck at neutrals 2/5

armani123sg- gd, no problems but didnt feel any diff comparing to CHEX brand.

icearmour- gear changing was very hard..too much vibration as well..changed after 500km...1/5

VidaK - no problems with the bike, but compared to the chex, this oil lost outright since its much more expensive... 3/5

icearmour - no problems, speed, smoothness, vibration etc all are at decent levels...but not the best in anything so 4/5

VidaK - The smoothest is unreal. In fact top speed increased. 4.5/5

ckoonyin - very smooth; last me until 1000km before it started to get rough 4/5

ckoonyin - 2nd time using it again, damn smooth, gear changes are very positive. engine vibration is noticably muted compared to Motul 7100

icearmour- overall smoothness increased nicely:thumb:vibration still there but slightly lesser....4/5

http://www.amsoil.com/StoreFront/images/MCF_900.jpg

Amsoil 10W40 (UM) $28

Liquimoly 10W50 Fully synthetic (Equipment Extreme) $24

naim - very smooth. very slick gear changes. doesn't get rough at full throttle. vibration is strong due to its thickness, but u can feel that its smooth. though abit expensive. 4.5/5

http://www.honda2wheelersindia.com/images/honda-genuine-oil.gif (Thai version) $12

Original Honda Motor Oil 0W20 Similar to the picture except the words are all Thai.

Icomeforyou - Loved this motor oil, cheap and good. Smooth, and gear is smooth. The oil once changed you can feel its thickness. My vehicle was "growling". Top speed okay, not much improvement, but riding is smooth. Best utilized at 85 - 95 there abouts. Can feel it starting to break down around the 1k~1.5k mark

Hmmm.. I dun have my phantom's manual..

But i went for my first oil change at shop, the shop recommended me 1.5l EO..

I said I always read the norm is 1L, but they said for my model (the newer custom4) model use more than the old model...

So im not sure.. Issit true?

Never heard of such a thing.

Only first time changing, take out from factory odometer 00000km need a bit more, because everything is bone dry inside.

After that is 1 L

nt sure abt other riders, but personally, max 2k... if i got the mood/money, 1k-1.5k.. call me kiasu, but at least i knw my engine is taken care of.. :) usually every mth lar.. cux rmb we got no filter, so alot of contaminants can stay in the EO over tym..
