[Technical] Engine Oil - All related matters in EO

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)
Hmmm.. I dun have my phantom's manual..

But i went for my first oil change at shop, the shop recommended me 1.5l EO..

I said I always read the norm is 1L, but they said for my model (the newer custom4) model use more than the old model...

So im not sure.. Issit true?

today went to bike shop change headlight bulb. ask abt engine oil. the mechanic told me if 1 litre in the long run not gd. better use 1.5l. then around 2k to 3k can change liao. think i will just get 1 l then top up if need be when the level drop below the lowest x

if you are scared of bike eating eo, why dont you just check the eo level to make sure there is still enough eo?

phantom only needs 1 and only 1 litre of eo. no more no less. too much will cause windage, churning the engine oil.

have not tried putoline, was on motul now on chex 9000. chex gives me same results as motul, but cheaper. although vibration more abit.

okay i have this weird ass problem, yesterday, my engine was damn rough, so when i got home i check engine oil level. There was almost nothing on my dipstick. So today i went to nearby gas station buy one bottle of EO, top up, then today i come home check again, now i have far too much EO. What on earth is causing this, plus, before I top up, i checked to make sure the bottle was 1L.

wen u jux turn off the engine, the oil around the engine takes time to flow down to the oil sump.. so if u check immediately after u turn it off, definitely will be lesser... if u let the bike cool for sum tym then u check, will be more cux all the oil go down alr..

If I'm not wrong the manual say let the engine run in neutral for 1-3min or something like that then check. if let the bike cool down is it the same as not letting it run at all?

I'm a newbie here so wanna find out how the majority do their eo checks

Couldnt find those EO mention above from ESSO expect the Mobil super 4T. So in the end get a multigrade 4T extra 20w40 from SPC. It is ok?

And izzit ok to mix engine oil of different brand? Lets say now i'm using the one from SPC and i need to top up my EO, can i switch to eg. Chessa Chex 9000 10w50 for the top up? Do i have to go bike shop and flush out everything before i can switch to a new brand of engine oil?

And how do you tell from a semi syn and a fully syn? Cause from the outlook of the bottle, some dont tell..=(

And for petrol wise, is Shell 95 = Esso 5000? Can they be mistakenly mix?

I just passed my TP and got my hands on a phantom.. really wish to know more and learn more about bike.. thanks all very much...=D

you can mix as long as they are of similar grade. eg 10w40 to 10w40.

but if they are of different viscosity, i rather not take the risk. maybe top up then ride to motorshop flush out.

the bottle usually will say if its fully syn or semi syn.

Product Information

From The Manufacturer, Mobil 1

Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40 was previously known as Mobil 1 MX4T 10W-40.

* Reformulated for on-road, off-road and competition 4-stroke motorcycles

* Re-engineered for cleaner running engines and high power output

* Optimized for high temperature durability for long rides or short races

* Specifically engineered high-performance additive system for superb engine and transmission protection.

Helps provide optimum acceleration and peak horsepower.

Scientifically developed high-performance additive system.

Provides excellent engine protection at peak rpm

Superb transmission protection.

Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40 is recommended for four-cycle motorcycles which specify the use of a 10W-40 engine oil. It provides excellent performance in motorcycle engines that are designed with a common engine/transmission lubrication system or where the engine lubrication system is separate from the transmission system. In the case of the latter, follow the manufacturer's recommendation for the type of fluid to be used in the transmission. Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40 engine oil is also designed to provide the proper frictional characteristics necessary for wet-clutch engine/transmission systems. Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40 exceeds the requirements of API Service Categories SH, SG/CF, CD, JASO MA and has been fully tested, both on laboratory dynamometers and in the field, to provide optimum horsepower and acceleration.

Fully synthetic Mobil 1 motorcycle oils are specifically engineered for use in motorcycles. The formulations are based on the proven technology used in other Mobil 1 automotive products, yet they are optimized for the unique requirements of a motorcycle engine and/or transmission. You can use them with confidence, knowing they will protect your bike in extreme situations where conventional motor oils simply cannot compare, including extended high-speed operation and prolonged idling in summertime traffic.

"The owner's manual says I should change the oil every 5,000 miles or once a year. I change my oil every 2,500 miles or twice a year. So why do I need that kind of protection?

For peace of mind and added protection. You pay a lot for a bike these days, so why risk running your engine in ordinary oil? Just like Mobil 1 synthetic oil for cars, Mobil 1 synthetic motorcycle oil helps keep your engine clean – free from varnish and deposits – and smooth running mile after mile, no matter what conditions you ride in.

Mobil 1 benefits engine life and performance. In fact, the lubrication capability of Mobil 1 motorcycle oil helps maintain peak horsepower and acceleration throughout the life of your engine. And with Mobil 1 you can go the full 5,000 miles between oil changes.

So, if you want to ride your bike long and hard and not be concerned about the oil, choose Mobil 1 motorcycle oil. "

just my share here ....

Best place to find varities and good quality EO is at motobike shops and not petrol bunks. Petrol bunks usually have 1 or 2 brands and that too overpriced and mainly cater to Car EO.

As you live in bedok, you can try the bike shops at Kaki Bukit like Unique Motors or the trusted bike shop of phantom riders; Planet Motors which is also in Kaki Bukit/Ubi area.

Regarding mixing EO, It should be ok as long as you are mixing EO with EO and not Vegetable Oil with EO

Try to mix EO with same viscosity, as far as possible.

1st and foremost thing is oil level should be right. Next thing is EO should be as clean as possible. Everything else like Fully Synthetic, weight etc etc is secondary.

Also any kind of petrol can be mixed with any kind of petrol as long as it is "Petrol" :)

ranger, watch what you put in your R15

Anyway, i'm reccomending ROCK OIL fully synthetic.

Really Pricey thought. :/ $26 per litre at first motors. Down the lane from planet motors.

I got really good fc after using this. Cheers. and those who believe you can "feel" the smoothness of an EO, this is the ****.

*Ive not tried motul though.

Can someone comment or enlighten why Car EO – Engine Oil is different from Bike EO ? if any . Since there are significant Bikers who buy from Petrol Station off the shelf, how is it that the popular grade 30 is not use nor mention in this Thread ? is there any report or any “qualified advise” that say so that grade 30 Cannot Be Use on Bike.

car EO is used for the engine specifically. car have their own tramission fluid as well. so its 2 different oil for 2 different parts.

for bike eo, 4 strokes at least, the eo lubricate both the engine and transmission.

but bro car have their own transmission fluid as most is "auto-trans" as in Automatic gear , this Not EO - Engine oil but Transmission Oil and they have separate "reservoir” for EO -Engine Oil . This is the different. Whereas Bike not mention Scooter with Auto-trans ( automatic gear) do not have dual oil but most bike have "wet clutch" system "bath" in the same EO . One main different manual car gear don’t have oil in them, therefore they are known as "dry clutch" system as in some big bike too.

to make it simple.. car EO contains alot of anti-friction additives, cux all it does is lubricate the pistons and crankshafts.. less friction, lesser heat, wear n tear

bike EO, can't have too much additives cux it does the same for the bike engine, as in the car engine, PLUS ur wet clutch... if there is alot of additives, ur clutch will slip n can even be damaged...
