1st of all u must let us know wat u gonna do with tat bike?

Isit going for track, touring or orchard road riding?

For me my 600cc is enough to bring me ard as a transport, ocassionally track and touring. Ofcos if you more to touring up north often then a 600cc wont be enough, so its depends wat u gonna do with the bike..

maintenance about the same... only difference is road tax, insurance and bike price...

If you are a track junkie who wants to go to track regularly, get a 600cc.

Otherwise, like the rest of us who wants to enjoy occasional raw power or want to pose, get a 1,000cc. :)

I just gotten my K7 600. Basically my choice was determined by the usability of the bike. I reckon with a 600, i will tend to ride it more to all over the place than a litre bike as I feel in Singapore you don't really need a litre power to get you around. well many might urge what about malaysia NSHW, as a matter of fact, i am very into touring too however with my work commitment, going oversea every now and then will not be possible anymore. I will say twice or thrice monthly. Hence I really don't really want to invest in a litre bike and tap only 20% of its power:)

Just my opinion:)

hmmm any reason for such choice?

Why most people go for 1,000cc sportsbike (for the matter, street or touring bikes as well) instead of 600cc?

1) Little difference in size.

Technology has advanced. 1,000cc sports is physically same size as 600cc counterpart. Weight and height are slightly more but they have negligible effect.

2) Road Riding and Higher Torque for overtaking without downshifting

This is the key. Most of us are going to ride our sportsbike on the road.

Road riding includes singapore/malaysia commuting, expressway riding, northsouth riding, touring, trunk road attacks.

1,000cc sports have more "torquey" engine, due to higher cc. This high torques allow the 1,000s to accelerate, overtake, product busts of speeds instantly. Mere millimeter turn of throttle. No need to downshift.

600cc can't do that because they are down significantly on torque. To do the same, you need to drop a couple of gears and send the revs up.

The effect is like comparing riding a Super4 (or any class2A bikes) versus riding a class2B bike.

So you realise, the main cause is high torque at low rpm. Many people look at peak horsepower and decide that a 600, with over 100hp at peak (>10K rpm), is more than enough. If you ride the current R6, you will be surprised that it does not feel more powerful than a Super4. Only when you send the R6's rpm to it's 17k rev.

3) The experience of power (and poise value).

One of the driving motivation when we upgrade to big cc sports is we want to feel how is it like to have so much power. Of course, you are going to get more of this with 1,000. And some of us, we may not admit it, feel the pride when we bragged about our bike. So of course, the 1,000 gives higher brag value (to the laymen at least).

4) Costs

Cost is often the factor that makes people chose the 600. But one must remember, look at the TOTAL Cost of Ownership (TCO) instead of just the machine price. The machine price of a 1,000 may be 1.4 times that of a 600. But the TCO of a 1,000 is maybe 10-20% higher only over a 600. Why?

1,000cc machine price is more. But it's resale value is also higher. So the depreciation cost is only slightly higher (sometimes even lower) than 600.

Apart from the couple of hundreds of dollars of road tax per year difference, COE, insurance, fuel, maintenance are the same. Of course, if one loans a lot, than the interest stacks up on the 1,000 due to the higher machine price.

5) Track Riding

The modern 1,000 sports is fine for most people to take to tracks. If you want to go for occasional or even regular tracks, you do not have to buy a 600. A 1,000 will be fine because it weights almost the same as a 600.

Why then did I say track junkies go for 600?

Track junkies, I meant, are those who cares about fine tuning/perfecting/horning track skills like braking points, early/late apex, cornering lines.

So they may want to go with a lower cc bike in order to develop proper track techniques. It is like Formula F1 drivers tend to rise from Go Karts. MotorGP riders tend to come from 250cc / 125 cc championships first.

The 1,000 produces so much power that one can make lots of imperfect cornering approach and lines, and can still get away with it. This is fine with most of us, but not those who seek track skill perfection. So track junkies sacrificed practical daily riding and pose value in pursuit of perfecting their track skill.

Of course, those who have done years and years of track practise can move up to 1,000cc.

6) Personal Reasons

This is my caveat. Buy whatever bike that pleases your heart, if you can afford it. So if you like a 600, never mind what Endless says. Go get it!

I had ridden 600, 750 and currently a 1000cc. Not a track junkie, just like the huge power plant buit in. Higher torque eliminate the need to keep dropping gear which always give you the power on hand. Handling wise, not much different as well. Infact, the new 1000cc had been made more manageable thanks to the invention of EFI. Looking back, I should have got myself a 1000cc or 1300cc instead of my 600/750. Save me alot of money.

oh.... so many ppl would prefer 1000cc than 600cc.... well.. than i should really really decide on which to get....

btw... thanks everybody.... any chit chatter can chat over here too... =))

btw, you should get the new r1!!! at first, r6 was my dream bike. but after looking at the 09 version of r1, it simply blows me away! lookwise, it's getting better. but performance wise, the new r1 '09 inherits a new crossplane crankshaft engine technology from the motoGP bikes!! that means a totally different feel and sound! but if you would like to get a 600cc bike instead, why not try kawasaki zx-6 instead? that bike has been totally revamped and is much better improved in the '09 verson.
