I read through the last 7-8 pages of this thread.. man, you guys have really been doing some in depth research!

I would like to film my ride as well, mainly for 'insurance' purposes but also for when I have a particularly enjoyable ride and want to keep it as a memory.

My main concerns are these:

Bike mount:

- likelihood of camera being stolen

- limited field of visibility (can't aim it at errant drivers)

- where to mount to get a clear view (my bike has a half fairing and a tinted screen)

Helmet mount:

- likelihood of damage in accident (perhaps destroying vital evidence)

- likelihood of damage while carrying around the helmet

- looks funny, affects aerodynamics

Size, weight, price and quality are of course important factors in either case.

Apart from the models discussed here, I also saw the website for BlackVue DR400G full HD (1080P), which looks quite interesting, though a little pricey.

hi from what you describe, then a helmet mounted 1 is the best...

next qns you want to ask yourself is what is your budget and what quality of video you want...

as for bulky mount on helmet, thats a easy problem...

3M duolock velcro...

take the cam out when not in use...

for bike use, car recorders cannot be used...beacuse it will be exposed to the elements...best is get a waterproof one...

RD32ii is a reasonably price hd cam and size not too big to mount on helmet...

the blackvue is for car use not suitable for bikes...unless they came out 1 for bikes...

Mounting in helmet is the best option I think, for insurance purposes.

you can see where you were looking, you can aim at the driver and it will also trace what happens after the accident as in when you get flung off and record what the driver say after accident.

I'm using the keychain camera but having problem mounting inside helmet. velcro sticky doesnt stick to helmet strong enough. gonna have to diy a bracket to hold it.

February 2011 - March 2012 = Phantom TA 200

March 2012 - August 2013 = Suzuki Impulse 400

Present = BMW (Bus, MRT, Walk)

Thanks for the feedback. I hadn't noticed BlackVue is not weatherproof.

So maybe we can summarise the experience people had with various cameras so far? It will help newbies like me get a better idea on what's out there

Perhaps a format like this:

username : Camera brand/model ($price - date of purchase)

Size & Weight : x/10

Clarity : x/10

Battery life : approx X hours

If we combine everything into one post, it'll be a great comparison for other readers. What say?

@crack. If u wan to on handlebar is possible. But v to remove daily. U can consider mounting it below ur fairing in front with 3m velcro. As for helmet mount, even if e camera is destroyed, i doubt ur sd card can e crushed tat easily.

Ur suggestion about consolidating info is sound. E issue is tat this is a forum and thus e info will get buried in e pages. :) anyway here's mine.

Keychain fake 808 #16

$8 for camera and $10+ for 8gb sd card

Roughly 2hr recording

Quality acceptable but i wish to ve wider angle.

Size is roughly 1/4 size of iphone. Wait is i think below 20gram

@CSV. Not sure wat velcro u using but e one i used ve been shifted on my helmet a few times and still going strength. Shifted as in e same piece of velcro i pull off and repaste on another area.

most bikes' handlebar vibrate so viciously that renders your video unwatchable..

i've tried so many ways to mount camera on my bike.... the best way is on your helmet. GoPro or ION Air is the way to go.

The 3M dual lock will solve your velcro problems.

I mounted my camera on a s4's stock handlebar with no damper or what so ever. Not much problem with vibration-causing-video-un-watchable.

Unless you are talking about filming at >140km/h.

@fairSquare. Tat will mean ur mount kit is either not good or e quality of e grip/cushion is degraded. I tried before cheapo mount and e vibration does not cause e video to be tat bad. Of co our perception of e quality may be different and wat u think is bad i think is ok. :)

If u c some of my videos, e quality is e same as e rare times tat i travel at 140+ in terms of e vibration effect. Of coz my mount is 3m velcro on helmet. Handlebar vibration is more but lycan has mentioned his is fine. Maybe share share wat mount u using?

my issue is not the velcro, its the double sided tape the velcro is attached to. because there's lack of any "good" flat surface for me to stick the double sided velcro onto helmet so it's very loose.

still thinking of ways to make it stick.

Ah i get wat u mean. My helmet also has some "slopes". So i cut my velcro bigger piece and just stick across e "slope". So far so good. Maybe ur helmet has even more "slopes" than mine.

@CSV. Just to share with u My velcro sticky on e helmet. Notice tat it is bended? It is becoz my velcro piece cuts across e slope on my helmet. I guess maybe i use a bigger piece of sticky thus it sticks on well. So far no issues. In fact i was pleasantly surprised tat i could pull it off and reuse it for 4 times already.

Me too. I was surprised that it could still stick securely after I took it out to place it somewhere else.

oooh, you use the heavy duty 3m mushroom head. mine is the normal fabric kind. but i stick my camera in the interior of the helmet, not exterior.

can it withstand windblast up to 150kmph with that? i prefer to mount interior because no worries of it being lost.

today just had an idea, shoulder mounted camera. cause i wear armour jacket, and just nice the shoulder pad forms a nice flat surface, so maybe i can stick the camera on my shoulder instead.

I ve tried with 140 still ok. And it was my 4th repasting of e velcro stickie. I think it is a very good product. I also ve a lanyard to e camera ring as a safety. So far dropped twice, once becoz stuck to my glove velcro and e other time becoz e lanyard got caught in my jacket and i pulled it too much while checking blind.

Can share with a pic how u mount interior? I also wan to but cant figure out how.

For mounting on ur shoulder, never thought of tat myself. if u try do share ^^
