so after the shock is over, i realized that he is directly in my path & his left front door is just an arm length away as we stop parallel to each other, he avoid my stare & faster took off while me & the pple from the stationary cars all gazed & stared.

TS i dont think you've done wrong, but I think you are a very fresh driver cum rider and haven't seen enough.

This is what i would've done if i were you:

The moment i see in my rear mirrors that this crazy SUV cut another car and coming HOT towards me, and knowing that traffic quite jammed travelling 30-35kmh. I WILL BLARDY LANE SPILT out of the way.. Cut to at least two cars in front and no drama would've occured.

THEORY and PRACTICAL is not same. Not saying u are wrong but i believe the incident could be avoided with minimal fuss if u had NOT insisted on taking up one whole lane. I'm pretty darn sure that the SUV got "must be in front" syndrome and doesnt like bikes at the front during trafficlight stops. That's why No.1 he cut u. You accelerated faster to his front and BLOCK him by taking up one whole lane and "PLAY" with him with your tail light. Den u swerve out of the way and almost cos him to crash.

I don't drive but i'm damn sure this is how he sees it. Ask me if it's rational behavior, i think he's quite the usual local driver minus the part where he tried to squeeze u out of the way upon acceleration from redlight(bully).

My advice to you is, don't be rigid, when in doubt, ESCAPE. Even if it means tapping into your bikes power and accelerate and lane split to the front where it's safer and more space plus further from the psycho.

Maybe when u clock more mileage u will realise this kind of ppl are littered ALL OVER SGP and you will be able to identify the driving pattern. Avoid them.

Erm of course if you are not comfortable with lane splitting and riding fast when necessary, it's better to move as close to the left as possible. When i ride a c70 i ride close to the line on the side of the road to let fast cars over take me.

Crazydj, thanks for sharing your experience. And more importantly, you also shared positive and constructive ideas with others, on how to handle such situations in the future. :thumb:

I encountered such situations before. And I am also human. But don't you feel proud of yourself afterwards when you start to appreciate you have kept your cool and handled the situation wisely, instead of being driven by impulse at that moment and might have ended up much worse? :thumb:

So guys, keep our cool. You will always be thankful to yourself for that afterwards.

One way to help you keep your cool is Don't take things personally.

1) That driver may be just a ******* ******* driver.

The person just drives like that towards every other road user on the road. It is not directed towards you.

As Crazydj noticed, that particular driver just continues to do the same at the next car in front of him.

Since this person is such a madman, it will be wise of you to get out the madman's way.

2) We don't know what is driving the driver to be driving so madly. Maybe he has genuine reasons. Eg: his house has an emergency to his wife, kids, parents. We don't know for sure. Why don't we give way? Afterall, this is a public road.

ultimately, i think gotta play taichi.

They come we siam. Period.

This is not "running away a coward den to die a hero". This is plain common sense.

Egg smash rock = you become liquid form again.

he will ultimately get into trouble for killing someone. u just have to decide whether that someone is gonna be u.

No reason, no right of way, just siam danger and carry on riding.

no reasons/ tears/ apologies/ money will bring u back to life.

ok guys, I just gotta be frank here.

HOW DO U GUYS KEEP UR COOL ???? :dot:

I'll admit it openly... I am Hot Headed. sometimes very hot headed!

I pillion my Gf to work daily and everywhere in fact. If im riding alone...and a car "tries to kill me"... I'll usually just evade and move on... But if its one of those things that really needs a lesson to be taught...then the FINGER comes out.

Eg. Im on extreme left lane. Taxi cut from extreme right lane to right in front of me and jam brakes to pick up passenger...

or

Fu*kers who think there are Great Multi-Taskers and use their Hp while driving and change lane w/o looking, swerve within their lane etc etc...

But when i am with my pillion (GF), I jus totally lose it! SH*T Happens - Finger Comes out.:dot:

Ive even stopped a Driver before to confront Her. Almost bang us down while she was SMSing while driving. Blocked her car... got her out. Screamed at her till she start crying. Called the police... but my Gf later told me to Cancel teh report...cos she "very pityful". My Gf is usually the cool one asking me to relax...and sometimes this fustrates me...as I feel she takes it lightly sometimes.

To me its like, " tat bugger jus tried to kill me...and he's gonna try kill some other rider soon"...

I dunno guys... Any advice...suggestions...slap-in-the-face..b4 i kena high blood pressure...:faint:

Off topic first:

bro, i think what u did - stop the driver and confront them, is the best offensive measure we can take, provided u stop them safely and they willing to stop.

at least that's better than finger/ road rage while moving. :faint:

what i learnt while riding and from HOV was try to identify such idiots 1st b4 they get near me and "suddenly" do weird things which affect me.

so if from far i ald see a tailgater, i make sure i siam.

if i see a cab, my senses become 120% alert.

when i nearing exits on eway, i check right side for idiots cutting out dangerously.

when nearing filter lanes, i check left for idiots dashing in.

if i see a car undecided dunno wanna go left or right, or the car at junction dunno want to turn right or not, i horn to tell them im there.

so perhaps my point is rather than "How to keep cool" after kenna such idiots, perhaps it might do better to identify and siam them altogether.

Of coz, sometimes we cant siam them for various reasons and back to the question:

***** ***** ***** ***** *****

***** ***** ***** ***** *****

how to keep cool?

1) it helps if u are not riding a fast bike - coz u will ll suck thumb give way and that forces u to throw away all ego right from the get go and give way wherever needed.

2) Reminds urself how much u love ur gal, urself, ur family and frens and ur bike and that an accident may destroy one of those or more.

3) watch more horror bike accidents and their aftermath - so

E V E R Y T I M E u otr u remember the danger.

4) Join HOV and like minded riders interested in safety and immerse urself in the "Safety" environment.

5) Forget "Right of way", The only "Right" is the Right to live.

Be Safe & Wreckless

My experience

I was on my was back after my "test ride" after pumping petrol. I always have to retune my carb idling screw after i pump petrol and a ride will show me how much i need to adjust my the screw. There was this big run-a-bout at Marine Parade road, near to Parkway. I entered the turn and was conering as i wanted to do a U-Turn. All of a sudden, a blue confort taxi just jumped into the round-a-bout, cutting a car and forced me to perform an emergency brake. Before, the car that was in front of my jammed its brakes to avoid the taxi and i had no choice to but cut the car to its left. As now i was in front of the car, the taxi swerved so hard to the right. I managed to stop in time while the taxi managed to accelerate in time. He went to cut my lane so bad that his side was going to clip my whole bike with his right side. As i did my e-brake, i dropped down my gears and raised my right hand in disgust and quickly sped off out of the roundabout.

After action report

1) Always keep your eye on the road. From the distance i could see the taxi was going to enter the roundabout. He moved forward, jammed his brakes, then suddenly sped into the roundabout. From the distance, i suspected something was amiss so i had already dropped one gear.

2) Once i was safe after braking, i could have actually blasted my horn and shouted at him. But i only raised my right hand in disgust as i dropped down gear in order to quickly move out of the roundabout. The car earlier who jammed its brakes for the taxi was already slowly moving off and there were many other cars in the roundabout. Therefore, move quickly out of the area as soon as possible to prevent further risks.

Moral of the story

Always be alert of others on the road. It is very common to see taxis suddenly comming out from the side of the road or turning into you lane without even bothering to check. I hope we all can continue to learn from each others' experience. Ride safe guys! :)

All these horror stories, experienced almost daily by most riders, really scares me. I'm not sure I can accept the consequences of being severely injured or killed in an accident that was caused by seriously incompetent driving by others.

I always tell my friends who intend to ride that if they are afraid and have second doubts, that means they are not ready to ride. Once a rider fully accepts the consequence of riding, only then his soul is ready to be moved by 2 wheels. 4 wheels move the body. 2 wheels move the soul. :)

True that! I read that quote somewhere around the net. I've begun to gradually accept the risks, but will do my absolute best to reduce the dangers and increase the odds of me surviving the roads. That includes all the safety gears such as FF helmet, gloves, jacket, pants and boots! Had a bad accident when I was riding (on a bicycle) and left me with many permanent scars. Not too pretty :(

My experience:

When you see a taxi in a bus-stop, BE WARY because taxi's don't signal and will make a U-TURN out of a sudden because got passenger on the other side of the road.

1st incident: Taxi at bus-stop, single white line(sure can u-turn), riding happily, suddenly U-TURN.. i had to swerve into opposite traffic because he turn when i passed him. and he jam brake. Lucky no traffic on the the side, else i goodbye.

2nd incident: Taxi at bus-stop along a bend, along S'goon nth ave 1, DOUBLE white line, made a U-Turn out of a sudden and i horn.. he just continues turning and I HAD TO JAM BRAKE to avoid collision. Didn't even wave sorry whatsoever, happily pick up passenger.

3rd incident: This time i thought i smarter abit, Taxi at bus-stop, single white line, this time good.. got signal, so i HORN at him, a short one... wah lao leh.. he still wanna turn lehhhh.. so i horn continuous until he stopped and i swerve right and pass him.

I know its hard to get passenger, but pls lookout for traffic leh....

So moral of the story: Taxi at bus-stop = BE VERY CAREFUL. Haiya.. just be wary of taxis. They see passengers as $$$$$. Cannot be late, else $$$ fly away, taken by other cabbies at the expense of other road users.
