hi guys.. got sum queries to ask regarding the 749/999.. hopefully there is an owner willing to shed some light.. seldom see this beauty otr.. so wana check it out first..

- how's the reliability of an 03-04 749/999 compared to modern day ducatis? Is it able to do daily commuting? Read from some forums its a pretty reliable bike.. but then agn.. those foreigners ride the bike on a seldom/leisurely basis or for track use.. not much on daily commuting.. hence to me.. reliability is still questionable..

- are parts easy to get for this model? readily available or have to wait for shipping, etc2.?

- is there anything to look out for this bike like issues with any parts/components? wear & tear?

That's all i have in mind right now.. Many thanks in advance for any help/advice given.. =)

Well for you can strip down d whole bike and assembled back when u wanna ride. hehe

ok jokes aside, if your canvass comes with holes below, can try hook it n lock up. alarms and this preventions can only slow down their process, if your bike is really targetted by them, think they still got a way to steal. Well this is just my 2cent opinion.

Yes..... thinking whether is there any special nuts for our brembo kits tat need special tools in order to open up? Business opportunities?

Basically just as all ducati engine, proper maintance is required. As long as u stick to the recommended service intervals u should be fine.

Personally I've gone thru 3 ducatis as passion rides and daily transports. Maintance is higher when u use them as daily transport.

As the bike does share common parts with other bikes, yes parts are readily available for the purpose of maintance. The wear and tear of 749/999 is the same as all other ducatis. In the event that u want to source for cheaper alternatives, then u would have to order in advance.

Based on my personal experience, u should set aside roughly 2.5k a yr purely on maintance. I know someone whom has spent 8k on maintance over the last 2.5yrs.

alright.. point noted..! didn`t know most of their parts are common with the newer ones.. thks fer da info dodobird..

being an old bike.. really need to get all the required info.. rebuilding the whole bike is gona be costly in an event if something happens.. moreover a ducati..

as i seldom see this bike otr.. just wana know feedbacks from current owners.. whether is it worth buying this bike..? or get the newer generations..?

as u`ve said.. 2.5k for maintenance.. wat does it include..? 12k servicing + 24k servicing..? not sure how much each servicing cost tho.. and also how is the maintenance and maintenance schdule/interval like fer a duc..

Hey guyz, i got this issue with my duke. Theres few times when i stop at traffic light junction, my duke suddenly stall. The sound is like when u accidentally disengaged biting point. I notice this usually happen when the temp is above 80 degrees. Is this common or its due to my clutch? Pls enlighten me. Btw im riding 1098. Thanks!

Imo the 749/999 series is unpopular here because of its key design elements: dual sided swingarm, single exhaust, and the nose design. But this means that you can get some good deals on them.

I like the way they look with Xerox or Fila race paintwork and they are very ergonomic compared to my 996. Plus you get more power with the testastretta engines.

Running costs depend a lot on how much mileage you clock. If you use as daily rider, i'd set aside about 3k a year for servicing and minor fixes should they come up. You'll probably have money left over at the end of the year unless you're unlucky.

I have owned 3 ducs and the simple rule to having a fuss free ownership is never skip a service, and the moment a part gives you trouble or breaks, replace it. I dont know how to say this nicely but the only people who have trouble with ducs are cheapskates IMO

thks fer ur pt of view blackreplica..! that is one nice 996 u got there..! i bet its a pretty rare classic..!

yeahhh.. the 999 need a lil gettin used to it to the looks.. but i can live with it.. not too bad afterall.. the 2006 999r Xerox WSBK is pretty SMACK..!

seen a couple of 749/999 for sale.. its within my budget range though.. hence i`m considering these bikes..

its true.. not only for ducati.. but it applies for most bikes too.. i`ve nvr stinge on my bike maintenance.. afterall, if u take good care of it.. it`ll be good to u..

maybe duc is a bit more pricey to maintain.. but heck..! its an italian we`re talkin about.. 3k a year.. hmmm.. i can work it out.. thks for the info..! =)
