My advise is to bite the bullet and fork out the money and fix up the gearbox and change the battery. You might even want to knock out the dent and spray your tank and fender at the same time. You still have more than 2 years COE left. A bike shop will probably offer you $200. Since you say the bike is in bad condition, the parts will not be in good condition. Many Phantoms are being scrapped now so parts are aplenty. Just fix it up and ride it till 2013 then scrap.

I say just scrap it. Market value now for phantom with expiring COE is negligible, and I don't think there'll be a lot of interested in used parts.

engine / gearbox or other critical problems would probably mean... a scrap...

get honest quote from mechanic, how much will it worth to repair your bike ?

engine/ gear box... could be 600~700$, battery 60$ is minimum cost..

and think again.. 700$ for 2 years.. 350$ per year worth it ?

bike shop wont take in spoilt phantom.

Heat wrap works, with a good wrap, the exhaust when touch only feels like holding a hot cup of coffee.

Can press your hands on it for several seconds before feel uncomfortably warm. No burns.

The COE amount for that year is $1. Insurance refund will be too little. I think there is a 50% penalty. And like I said, there are plenty of parts available. What's more the bike is in bad condition so most likely all parts are rusted out and tank is dented. Just ride until times up and scrap.

my take on your situation is this, u wanna scrap the bike, bikeshop will scrap for u refund u balance COE, Rd Tax, and Insurance if any, then they'll ask u to pay a scrapping fee of $100-$300 depending on shops...

the other way is this, u do a major ops to the bike, overhaul the whole engine, and gearbox and do up the cosmetics outlook of the bike and ride it for the 2years, once COE dies off renew it again..

Repairing it to a 9/10 condition will set u back minimum starting of 1K for all things all the way till 2K depending on the parts changed, but i can assure u is this, the bike can be continued riding for a very long time to come.

then COE price in 2yrs time no one knows, and all vehicles after 10yrs their road tax fees will appreciate 10% per annum till 15yrs old of vehicle age...that means at 15yrs old ur paying 50% more road tax then those below 10yrs old phantom...

This is what i can lay before you, take your choice...hahaha

Cheers!

Is there after market suspension for phantom? Heard from ah chong that the best suspension for phantom is the stock suspension. Is it true? Thanks!

stock is always better, cuz they can last minimum at least 5 years before they start giving way, aftermarkets gotta depend on brand quality also, u wanna get the cheapest and best aftermarket shocks, YSS is the way to go, but then again the price is almost on par with stock, price diff maybe 50 bucks, and the longevity is unknown, whereas stock shocks are track proven, unless your hauling superduper heavy loads, and afraid the stock suspension cannot take the weight, juz change to a harder spring loh...

Okay this question mainly for riders with girlfriends that are small in size -.-

Do your girlfriend complain that the seat uncomfortable? Cause recently

i saw one guy selling his phantom cause his wife complain very uncomfortable.

And i looking to buy a phantom. If it helps her height is 150cm , mine is 173cm .

her weight is 39kg. and i'm 60

Also is it advisable to buy phantom now? Most phantom close to 10 years and at 15 years road tax increase am i ride?

Depend on u... There is quite a number of FZ plate and above phantom... even if de bike is 10 yr, if de condition is gd, u can consider to buy it since phantom is so common in SG... Parts is easily available... Road tax may be a little more ex... but you are only paying at most 96 buck per yr... Phantom itself is very economical... low fc, cheap and easy to maintain... and have a lot of accessories... (above only refer to TA200)

My gf nv complain abt de stock seat... anyway, if ur gf dun like de seat, u can mod de seat like adding cushion or even making it wider... If i am not wrong, phantom is one of de lower seat height, easier for ur gf to get on de bike (sorry no offense)...

You can buy newer phantoms. Thailand stopped production in March 2010 so you should be able to find 2004-2009 bikes still.

actually it depends on individual, because the posture if pillion not used to it they will find it uncomfortable also, but ride and pillion everyday within a week ur body will get used to the sitting posture, even for me who has been riding for nearly 5years when i ride new bike, my body will also baulk at it, but give it 3 days or so and its gone...

this is the muscle memory that is causing it...hhahaha

2nd part wrong, from 11-15yrs the road tax will increase 10% per annum till 15yrs old...

1-10yrs old = 100% road tax payable

11yrs old = 110% payable

12yrs old = 120%

13yrs old = 130%

14yrs old = 140%

15yrs old = 150% road tax payable which will not go up any further as its the maximum value already

16-???yrs old = 150% payable

Go as far as you can see; when you get there, you'll be able to see farther.
