Yes, mate - The reach of the HID light beam is far better that LEDs at this monment, but LEDs are catching up really fast. Btw light beams are projected by the lamps casing reflectors. Intensity wise LEDs have over taken HIDs already.

Just look at the cars and bikes on rally, for headlights everyone uses HID or Halogen, or a combination of these two. Here are some example from the Baja 1000. The race that popularise the Baja Headlights among dirt-bikers.

Current LED technology in light projection is still not comparable to even halogen.

LED's high intensity but low consumption make it very suitable for Day Running Light (DRL) such as those in the Audi, Porsche, Nissan GTR.

Pls view LEDs Barlights installed -

From the position of the LEDs, they are used more like fog lights ie. to light up a large area right in front of the vehicles, like those worklight for excavators. You want distance, like driving lamp, the lights must be mounted high.

Yes, mate - high mounts always give a better light but it tends to blind the opposite drivers. BTW, now the LEDs Work Lamps come in 3 beam pattern - Flood, Spot & Euro ( Driving Beam ). Recently, Narrow Flood & Wide Flood was also introduced. I will hace more of those pictures 2molo for your viewing.

It seems to me HID,due to the ballast and bulb.

Price wise obviously HID more pricey. But those made in Taiwan are more cheaper, durability wise you should know.

I have seen one set made in GERMANY.America is popular too

Waahhhh.... I don't need so big one lah. No place to mount also. Ever saw an uncle with strode led mounted inside his wing mirrors signal casing on his Goldwing 1800. Super covet and looks awesome. Thought of 'hiding' the strobe led inside one of my headlamp too. Hehehe

For a start, without filiment is already a good idea!

HID got more reach and lumens than LED.

give it a couple of years, there are CREE LEDs that are pretty impressive, but I haven't seen them on bikes/cars yet.
