Anyone knows what the plastic/rubber things that bigger sports bikes have on their sides of the bikes are for? They look similiar to the stabilizers on our handlebar ends but bigger. Can G4 put also? And does it help the bike in any way?

it helps if you happen to slide the bike in an accident. Not by much... it does help to reduce damage to the import parts of the bike like the frame and engine.

it doesnt look like there are any places that you can do that on a g4 though. the screw hole at the end of your swingarm? its for you to install something that racing stand would need. forgot what it is called. but its not a slider.

Hi guys... Just checked. You can purchase sliders from Ah Boy @ S$38/- They sell quite a variety so you can choose. The cheapest ones i saw is S$38/-. Looks very similar to the ones i got.

I went to the mechanic but they said it was too troublesome to mount as need to drill through the fairing to make the hole bigger for the slider to fit.

Let me know if anyone wants to DIY. I can show you how. Pictures are as attached. Now when i look at my bike from the side view it looks like it says pains no1 instead of spains no1 because the slider covers the letter s.

Materials Needed:

- 10mm replacement bolt with threading (x2 Alan Key Type)

- Hole Saw Attachment (Less than S$5/- at Hardware Shop)

*Make sure its the size of your Slider*

- Electric Handheld Drilling Machine

- Penknife

- Alan Key

Please note that there are no Sliders for GSXR400. I guess the designers didnt put that in unlike the newer models of GSX bikes. So be sure to get the size that suits your bike. Too big and too small and it wont look like its suppose to be there.

I guess the main reason i put it is so that if my bike drops, my fairing wont get damaged. But i think i will still smash off my side mirrors and front signal lights. Its better than nothing. Anyone else interested to put them onto your bike? Total costs would be less than S$50/-.

Hope the information helps...

Anyone thought of adding black wire mesh into the side fairings? You know the slots at the side for air to go through. When you look into it can see all the wires and engine. Thought of DIY placing wire mesh so that its covered but air still can go in. Ideas?

Other MOD ideas anyone? Preferably those we can DIY so we can save costs for emergencies.

wire mesh looks good when fixed but i think can disrupt the air intake flow to cool our engines....cause the wire mesh block a bit mah...but no harm trying...:cheeky:

ps. my kr last time got kr but it works out fine..donno if gsxr put on got any effects or not..

What polish do you guys use? I am currently using Black Magic Wet Shine Spray Detailer. It smells funky if you ask me but leaves the paint really smooth. Plus its easy on and easy on. Just got that funky smell...

so whats the total costs of putting up a slider?would like 2 mount it also...but mine very small sia....

Total cost is not more than S$50.00/-. I can help you mount it. Make sure our bikes look and perform well. Our bikes may be old but they have aged gracefully.

When you say small, what do you mean? The hole on your fairing? I know, thats why have to drill through and make the hole bigger. No worries bro, theres no such thing as cannot. The first bike shop i went to also said cannot and so did the 2nd one. Had to do it myself and push through and at the end of the day confirm can. If everyone say cannot then how would we progress forward.

Still can say my bike old and why waste money. I was hurt... Damn sad lor. So that made me do it.

Ya man, i tink you settle the ignition issue first. Let me know if you want to fix on sliders. I can meet you and assist you. You can ask at Ah Boy... S$38/-.

1 pair S$70? Woah... Then you have to get 3 pairs... For your front wheel, engine block area and rear wheel... Those sliders look really good... Tink my sliders are brandless... lol...

I guess sliders are a good investment as it is better to fall on sliders than damage your fairings.

lol...too over safety 2 get 3....frame sliders can already..

Due to sliders not being popular back then hence very little bikes were designed with them in mind.

The gsxr400 is no different. If you look at where you have placed the slider, its being secured by a screw to the engine block. Not the frame, not the fairings. How secure do you think they will be? How strong is your screw? Which is stronger? the screw or the engine block threads?

Ever wondered what will happen in the event of an accident? if the slider is not good enough, or gets caught in a hole, the screw may destroy the threads, of worse damage your engine block. If that is not the least of your problems, you will lose a main securing portion for securing the fairings. Lastly, with such unrepairable damage you can be sure that your bike will be scrapped after the accident as no one will be willing to buy from you.

Yes it may look nice but is there a real benefit to it? Or will it do more harm than the supposed good? Think wisely before you install something like that.

The screws which i used are stainless steel. The hole in the engine block which you described have been embedded with a solid brass cylinderical piece fabricated and cut using a CNC machine and embedded into the hole then re-drilled and re-threaded. There is also a stainless steel spacer that seperates the fairings point of contact to the engine block. So whatever you said is not really true as you dont know how i constructed it and yes i did think of what you wrote down here. Wah, still not strong enough? In any accident, the strongest things also have a tendancy to give way and can get broken or damaged. Depends on how hard the point of impact is and to which particular part. Dont flame me. I understand you are a more experienced rider and all. But all i am doing is a simple mod. And yes i have consulted other bike fabricators and thats how i got the idea of embedding a brass piece into the engine block to strengthen that particular point where the joints meet. Just to prevent my fairings from gettting busted if my bike falls. No harm intended to anyone. Not sure why you are so negative.

Wah... You like curse me got accident. Lol... Its just a simple mod. The bike has been dropped before. And the handle bar edge prevented the fairings from being damaged. But i smashed off the mirrors and signal lights. I will add on brackets to support the slider to the frame. Can be done. Just have to fabricate.

Yes it may look nice but is there a real benefit to it? Or will it do more harm than the supposed good? Think wisely before you install something like that.

I appreciate your concern. And yes they looked nice to me thats why i did it.. There is still room for improvement in my mods i know. Thank you for sharing your experience. Really appreciate it. Back to the drawing board for me i guess... Lol... Not here to create trouble. Just here to learn and share.

Dont worry bro, it will all be worth it once you get it fixed up. Good luck!
