Hi guys,

I plan to flush coolant myself. In order to do that I need to remove the petrol tank. What are the things that I should take note? Will petrol rush our when disconnecting fuel line?

Hello guys, need help to understand cb400revo and spec 3 ? Which is better? What is the difference?? Any advise? How much is the petrol full tank? How much mileage it can go?

Hello everyone,

I need some advice. I'm intending to get a Super Four. The problem is I cannot decide between a Version S or a Spec 1. Due to my budget of $3000 to $6000, I'm only limited to these two.

My riding style is casual. I seldom hit 120km/h when I ride in SG. I just want a reliable ride. However, I do intend to ride up to Malacca occassionally coz my folks live there.

Any thoughts, suggestions or recommendations are appreciated. Thank you.

Version S difficult to find one with good condition, as the bike is very old already. Besides, the Engine block design if too hot, the gasket gives way, the the rider will experience leaking.

Honda rectified this problem for Spec 1, and to ride at 120km/h constantly, I don't recommend Version S.

But a Spec 1 with good condition don't come cheap either.

No doubt Version S has good fuel economy, but if you can limit yourself at 120km/h and don't ride any faster, in fact save more petrol this way. Slight open Vtec makes the bike lighter, thus save more petrol, unless you intend to ride at 60km/h, if not anything more than 80km/h spend petrol anyway, and since you like to ride 120km/h, Spec 1 will save you petrol, and less engine problems.

Posted
So what you're saying is a Version S will be ill-equipped to handle a 300+ km ride to Malacca if I'm travelling at an average of 110 km/h?

I gotta disagree with that..

All boils down to the engine , how it was maintained beforehand..

Remember, if there's no Old, there's no newer model

Thanks for the feedback, Hairi. So what's important is to get a bike that has been well-maintained by the previous owner?

I've decided to post here hoping that someone may be able to help me somehow, please! :)

If you don't want to read then please see my YouTube video summary and then read if you need to.

So first a little about the bike. I acquired it on the 22nd of April this year with 12 months tax and MOT.

It was previously owned by a man from London, he was the 6th owner since it was registered here in 1998. It was manufactured in 1992.

Upon purchase I had nothing but problems. I traded my 2002 Yamaha Trail Way 125 and £330 for the bike as it was up for sale at the dealership for £995. The dealership I purchased it from works closely with webuyanybike.com

The bike seems to have had many underlying problems that were fixed and disguised and they won't have been apparent unless they'd taken the bike out for a long run, which they never did.

Firstly I had to wait a week for them to fix the fuel tap. After they ordered a 250 Super Dream tap I decided to go at it myself and went to the local breakers and he pulled me a tap off of an old 550 Four I believe which was a perfect match for mine however the vacuum pipes had been blocked with screws which hasn't really caused any problems as the tap on it previous to that was the same.

The second day after I acquired the bike I was run off the road by an elderly woman who pulled out of a junction on a blind corner without checking and then when she finally did check, she acknowledged me and slammed on her brakes in the middle of my lane on a 40mph road.

I promptly pointed the bike at the junction she pulled out of which was more of a farm track and as I was unable to stop I dumped it on it's left hand side and slid it down the road with myself under it, 90% of the damage was taken by the luggage rack and the front left crash bar. The only other damage the bike sustained was a crack to the tachometer and headlight, everything else was fine still which was very lucky I thought.

It was my first accident ever in 3 years of riding motorcycles so I feel I was quite lucky for the damage both me and the bike received.

She promptly drove off when I stood up and she saw I wasn't dead, I lifted up the bike and it had flooded with being on the floor, it took roughly 30 seconds to get it going and off I road back home to assess what was what.

Roughly a week later the bike began cutting out in first gear randomly, which I later discovered was every time I turned left, an hour later and an inspection of the wiring loom near the front end and I found a 2 into 1 bodge that had come loose and it was only maintaining it's connection when the bike was pointing forward or to the right. I sorted that out with a few spades and a small extension.

The next week I was at the petrol station using the cash machine, roughly a two minute ride from where I live and when I noticed my legs were becoming very warm, specifically my thighs from the seat, after removing the seat from the bike there was a plume of what looked like smoke but I later found out was the prompt release of the acid that was evaporating and building up so much pressure it was blowing the rubber seals from the top of the battery.

I've since replaced the battery and tried to replace the rectifier however I'm unable to find a direct replacement for the regulator as the one that's on it isn't standard I believe.

Please see the attached video for more information if you would be so kind as to give me any advice you can.

My frame number is NC311101042, I've been unable to identify my model with this number as it appears to be outside of all the ranges of models I've found.

Thanks,

Dave

Hey mate....

Remove your fuel tank n see the wiring harness of your bike.. Since it's a old bike, chances r tat the previos owner may fck up your wiring(splicing n horrrible stuff)

Also, u may use the time to trace the wire from your rectifier as u mention in the utube link

Just be sure your electrical wire/ condition r good tho..

Not of the best advise as I dnt ride your model.. But hopefully people will chip in their knowledge.

I can't seem to find the right wiring diagram for my model so I don't actually know where everything is meant to go, that's the biggest problem I face

I have wiring & parts catalog for NC39 (Vtec3) if u need

Mine is NC23 engine and NC31 frame, I think wiring diagram is entirely different lol, the closest I have found is this but I can't be entirely sure as to if it's entirely correct.

Edit: I've just discovered this though, a wiring diagram for a Honda VT600.

http://www.cycleterminal.com/wpimages/VT600wiring.jpg

Strangely enough, my rectifier is wired EXACTLY like that, my fuse box is EXACTLY the same too. Including the fuse for a fan even though I don't have a radiator fan. Starter motor is wired the same, everything seems the same except for the fuel pump and a few other little bits :/

Why would the diagram for a VT600 match up to the wiring harness of a CB400?

And as it just so happens, this rectifier is the same wiring and look as the one that's on the bike and that's also meant for a VT600. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/REGULATOR-RECTIFIER-FITS-HONDA-VT600C-VT600CD-Shadow-VLX-1999-2007-MOTORCYCLE-/280926501676?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4168863b2c
