Ok first, this is just my own review hoping not to offend anyone or any shops in the bike industry. This comments aren't based on my own imagination but it's either I have contacts with the shop (Had my bike sprayed there before) or know the person doing the spray painting job personally. Although I might have some conflicts with one or another, I will not be biased with my comments.

Wow, this is gonna be long so be prepared. Spray painting your bike is not an easy job!

First, the base colors. The color already on the bike before new paint is sprayed on it, those colors have to be removed (Or not depending on the person doing the job).

Second, fiber is added on the fairing if they are broken or cracked to repair it. Dents have to be knocked out.

Third, paint cement is added to the fairings and have to sand to minimise the layers of cement. (Why? If the person had applied a thick layer of cement and not sand it, the fairing which you get back is gonna be heavy. Try picking up an original fairing and a resprayed fairing of the same bike model, the resprayed one should be slightly heavier, if the cement was not sand, it would be even more heavier.)

Fourth, after all this is done, paint is being sprayed onto the bike. Those bikes with designs and different colors, linings is being paste onto the fairings or tank to "draw" the designs. Alignment is important depending on the owner. (Imagine you have a Honda wing on your oil tank, would u like your wing on the right to match the left in both size and length or you wouldn't?) Lastly, the paint is left to dry and stickers are pasted, lacquer is applied either twice or thrice. DO NOT BELIVE THAT ADDING MORE LACQUER IS GOOD FOR THE PAINT. Lacquer is added to protect the paint beneath it and adding the showroom shine. Applying more of it will have a side effect depending on the quality of the paint and lacquer used. (the lacquer does make your paint job nice and shiny, but after prolong period of suntanning, it sorts of acts like a magnifying glass focusing the sun's ray onto your bike making the color of the paint alittle faded as time goes by.)

So for all this things done, the price may varies. I'm not saying anyone would do this but it's like, the more you pay the more heart I put in your bike and bcos I'm asking for a higher price, the quality of my paint and lacquer might or might not be better. The less you pay, the more "Ching Chai" I would do your bike. All spray paint shop has to make a living. Some people has less money and wishes to respray so they go for the less pricey ones. Maybe they have damaged their bike and planning to sell it but have to repsray it before selling so they don't really look into long terms. But I can't stand those people whinning and complainig to others when the paint job cracks or fade off. Hey, that's the price you PAID for. Some simply love their bikes and wishes to have the best for it, they spend more money on it and if the "painters" didn't do a good job for you, just SHOOT them cos you paid MORE. All shops have a reputation to keep and all of them wants to keep it. Good comments travels slow but complaints are faster than a bullet! Know why you need to spray and how long do you want it to last before choosing a shop. Like we all say, Good things not cheap, Cheap things not good but all of us want something good and cheap! So it comes down to the individual.

Anyway ride safe and have fun!

PS: Hope I didn't offend anyone. Dun SHOOT ME.

emperor...typical singaporeans are like that one lah...you can't change their mentalilty.....since everything wan cheap...then cheap loh...got cheap ones why not 100plus 200 can get a single color job liao...why cannot?!..then the paint dun last..COMPLAIN loh....then spend again on YET ANOTHER CHEAP paintjob hoping it will last... ..den as usual the amt of PEANUTS you paid showed its quality again...the cyle repeats itself...then you get guys who are willing to spent more...and last them 4 a couple of yrs...........who is getting the better deal?!

go figure.............

p.s:then again you need these "monkeys" to keep the paintshops who provide CHEAP paintjobs alive!....long live "MONKEYS!"

do a cheap paintjob expect it to last 4ever ah?! can find let me know..even the best engine also need to service regularly lah!!!:faint: engine will also break down what makes you think paint wun fade and crack?!:sian:

worst some monkeys even try to spray themselves using spraycan?! D.I.Y....does 2K paint rings a bell? spraycan and 2k is like WAY different class....sure it can give you nice color and "gloss"....but touch yr heart and tell my how many jobs like that lasts?............i'll be frank of so many my friends did...NONE. some tried to be smart!.....THIN layers...of "LACQUER" for serveral coats then WAH shine sial!..after some time....CRACKS ...as wide as an index finger!!!!...mrt lines..pie/ecp/aye/tpe all came out!....some ppl say AIYAH CHIN CHYE CAN LIAO LAH....why dun you CHIN CHYE buy a bike then?!?! no offence but personally i think most of the local riders lack PRIDE in their RIDE .....heres a little info to D.I.Y ENTHUSIAIST.................

so called clear lacquer on the market DOES NOT serve any protection 4 your paint they are SIMPLY clear paint. true LACQUER OR CLEARCOAT professional call it..pre-mixes thinner and hardener b4 spraying.

juz like mechanics...you think you know alot D.I.Y fix yr own bike...you thought its was easy...of course taking things off is no problemo man....putting things back is!

and after trying once or twice...you can 4get about D.I.Y liao.

ppl dun learn spray painting and acquire the skills for NOTHING!....there is a certain amt of skill and knowledge involed....juz like mechanics.

some ppl say...wahlau! very easy one mah!! strip the bike paint then lacquer can liao lah....if you have the time DO read wat emperor said. you think its easy why dun i pay you..........?..................okie lah $300 one color paintjob for 1 week....split equally 300 divide by 7days bout 40 over dollars A DAY...you want to work for pay like that? ....for all the above mentioned efforts?.....not much...especially s'poreans. :D and belive me im being very GENEROUS by giving a 7days dateline AND 300 DOLLARS!!!?

so next time b4 you send/pay for a paintjob..spare a thought for ppl who went through all the training..etc....b4 you complain about the price. if you think you can't even afford a decent paintjob then why ride in the 1st place...if you set your mind into riding i think things like paintjobs hold an equal importance as performance as well.....its never complete without a good paintjob...if you are reading this forum at this point of time i assume you are a bike enthusiast or equilvalent...so justify that.

juz my 2cents. not meant to flame anyone. thank you.

So clever, not many ppl know about this. The secret is in the paint. The spray can ppl use today was used in the auto industry during the 60's. Acrylic paint tends break down easily. Today's auto paint are added with synthetic polymers so that the paint compund is structurally more rigid and durable. Acrylic can also offer the same slick finish if you are skilled but after many years it will degrade slowly. No offence but I'm hardcore DIY. You only do DIY when you learn it from the experts and not from "talk c o c k" friends.

But I don't really trust some so called "pro-paint shops" either. Some of them never did do proper sanding nor apply proper techniques after stripping the bike to the bare metal. This caused the some undesirable consequences to the metal surfaces(which they will then cover up with the paint). Besides not many places have draft down spray booth so I might as well go DIY.

Just got mine back from the shop. Very Happy!!! I got Hong Nan - Lawerence Tan(lavender St), the guys who service my bike to organise it, I don't know who they used but it is great!! Also recommend them for servicing, no bullshit, just great service...

It doesn't matter what the question is, the answer is more power!

Guys,i had an "ugly" incident with the JB authorities today.Don't want to talk bout that now,but those JB MBJB farkers scratched my RVF's new paintwork and refused any responbilities.

Just want to know any shop in Singapore that do custom airbrush(no stickers). Can recommend me?Actually got frend who recommend a shop in JB that airbrush and price was reasonable but i don't trust leaving my bike in a "foreign" country for a week or two.

Give me an address and price quotations if possible. Thanks!
