How to save a cashcard...

Hi,

 

Recently I lost my forth cashcard at Plaza Singapura, and all the cash cards lost were stolen at Plaza Singapura coincidently, so I decided there must be a way to "REMIND ME" to take my cashcard, here are some ways to be cautious:

 

1) Buy an IU unit cover, they have them at a shop along Desker road, friendly old chap, $10 without installation, $15 with installation

 

2) Spray the IU unit cover black, although not effective at reminding you to take the cash card, it may "SAVE" your forgotten cash card you left on your bike.

 

3) Try not to pad lock your IU units, the plastic is weak and most "@ssholes" just pry the hatch open even if you have a sticker over it just to see if they is anything inside.

 

4) My favorite, tie a string to your cash card.

I find that a string connected from your IU unit to your ignition key is the most effective way, here is a list of things needed.

 

1) A drill with a small drill bit

2) Fishing line. ( Best to get ones with a extremely high breaking strain, monofilament is the best.)

3) Swivels, allow you to connect and disconnect the string from the key and the cashcard easily, sort of like a karabiner a rock climber uses.

 

First, drill a hole in the corner of the cash card away from the magnetic strip and the metal conductor.

From there, you can use the string with the swivels attached to both ends of the string to connect to the ignition key and the cash card.

 

Here are what the swivels look like. They are dirt cheap, about 60 cents a pack at Giant, Carrefour or NTUC, they stock them at their fishing tackle sections.

definitely can. Of course make sure you don't hit the microchip, and the serial number on the other side.

I think some household hole punchers are not strong enough, maybe those industrial strength ones in your office might do the trick though!

Tried with normal hole puncher...works fine for me...

I spray my IU cover black and got a "leather" IU cover.

Dual covers and they saved my cashcards a couple of times with no problems.

guys, can try this method...

 

get hold of a retractable ID card holder (very cheap, popular bookstore got sell)

attach 1 end to ur iu cover.

when u insert cashcard, hook the clip end onto ur key chain - so when u reach ur destination and pull out ur key, u will naturally be reminded that iu inside got cashcard

 

i find this is better coz when not in use, the line will be retracted and u wun have dangling strings and whatnot

i think there is a metal coil around the peripheral of the cash card. so when punching holes, aim for at least 7 mm off the sides...maybe more.

i ever saw sumone riding hayabusa place his IU under his seat at a motodiam. ask the mech if it works... but he say 50-50.

 

but for those who have space under their seat & willing to try... only if u willing to spend first.

 

1)place ur IU unit uner ur bike seat

2)check ur cashcard value b4 inserting

3)go thru a gantry during operation time

4)check ur cashcard value... if there's less money than the gantry able to detect ur IU under the seat

5)if same amount as b4... just wait for letter with extra $10 payment.

I tried that before, the only thing that happens if no IU is detected, must go for an IU inspection, I did not have to pay...

i lost my car 3-4times liao , present one cant be lost cos its brought by my gf, she run n fall down n cut her toe so that card remind me to TAKE the fugly card when i park my bike ... LOL

 

anyway those who take other cash card r low life treat its as i'm giving a begger money without knowing who the begger onli. :mad:

I read sumtime back in the papers... There are plans to reduce the size of those fux up IU units... Hopefully to the size of small card holders or sorta like that.... Its freaking blocking my view of my speedo... No wonder i speed so much.... Heheh

hey , just hide the damn IU under your seat cover lah . But it's illegal though. and the gantry will fail to detect it if you have a pillon.

As an active member in the Singapore bike community, i have always heard stories of pple's cash card being stolen. Even i, myself, have many a times been a victim to those nasty cashcard theives!

Aa a measure to deter those thieves, I have invented a bike IU unit sticker that covers the entire IU unit. The sticker's dimensions is accurate and it fits to the IU unit like a glove!

I have implemented this idea for my NTU rider's club members. i have been getting an overwhelming response for the stickers as they simply love it! I have been told that the design and praticality of the sticker is great and its has indeed prevented many cash cards for being stolen!

 

I wish to take the opportunity to make it avaliable to our local bike community and hope it benefits everyone!

I have designed a similar sticker that is completely black in colour and without the NRC logo. As you know black is a universal colour and thus it can match any bike colour!
