I clean my chain in a rag soaked with chain lube. I bought a big can, but found that it flings (despite claims), so I put it to better use.

You can't damage a chain with chain lube~! :D

Recently cleaned my chain..It looks new now..But the question is..How much chain lube needed to re-lube the chain? Using Maxima Chain Wax..

09/07/2009 - Passed 2B TP (10th attempt)

I have tried to see things from your point of view..But no matter how hard I try..Or what I do..I just can't get my head that far up my butt..

Very little needed to relube. The freshly sprayed on lube should be 95% invisible, only noticable if you touch the chain and feel a thin layer of oily lube. If you can see a yellow layer of oil, it is already too much. The best way to do it is to spin the rear wheel and spray. Spend a few bucks on a car jack.

Thanks for the reply..Just afraid that the chain might just go kaboom when on the road..Somethin I don't want to happen anymore..Once is enough..Ahaha..I took out the chain before lubing tho..So it sits flat on a rag and sprayed it..Mostly on the side tht will be havin contact with the sprocket..Rode it today and its fine..But had to ask just to make sure..

A little. Petrol is lighter and thus, can penetrate better to reach and dissolve the dirt.

I see some people recommending kerosene because it has lighter penetrating power and thus, would not sink in too quickly as petrol. But, I do not know for sure whether it's a true fact as to whether petrol's quick penetrating properties would cause chain wear.

As for whether it would destroy or dry out the rubber O or X rings, it's still open to debate everywhere...in online and in social (biking) circles

i read the manual of x ring DID clean wif kerosene, but to my dismay my chain was way noisy than before. even wd40 dun use it for cleaning though very effective but spoil ur rubber rings and linkage. for me i personally use soap and detergent/utensils degreaser. safer but i wash away wif water asap. use to lube using scottoiler but quit the crappy idea, lube the linkage well due to the pentration, 2-3days later damn noisy. now using gp1. i wipe off access chain gel after spraying, use a paddock stand. jack wud do the job too. chain clean and quiet..

It depends mostly on the weather and your riding pattern. Better to judge from how the chain appears. If the rollers appear very shiny, it is time for a quick squirt of the stuff.

With this product, frequent application of a tiny amount is much more effective than infrequent application of a large amount.

guys, before you lube your chain, you still need to clean it.

here's one way:

kettenmax chain cleaner

mods done:

powerplant device, fuel injector venturis,

underseat cylindrical air filter, bassy stock cans,

super-sensitive in-built gyroscope, inertia-based accelerometer,

streamlined panniers (zero drag),

taped up wires, exposed grounding wires,

TBC mounted, custom tire pressures.

litre bikes watch out! :gun:

Dun ever use WD40 on ur chain, it will damage the rubber rings on the chain, dun believe try it and see, does ur chain always getting loose easy. Kerosine is recommanded by DID, if u can afford than use any aftermarket chain cleaner. for example: Afam chain cleaner. I trust Maxima products better cos most of them i try works darm well!!! Best recommanded products.
