I recently took an interest in Motorcycles, and I'm thinking of getting a bike licence (behind my parents' backs) this year during my school holidays.

However, I don't know anything about the different kinds of bikes besides the types available! I'm looking for something along the lines of either a Kawasaki ZX 6r or a Honda Phantom. . . can't decide which one is better! Also, I don't know anything about getting a bike licence, buying a secondhand bike, and getting proper insurance.

Can start by telling me about whether a cruiser or sport bike is faster/ more stable/ safer/ etc.? Thanks!

faster: sportsbike

stable: 50/50 aprilia rs 125 06 n > models with good tyre dimensions are stable but stong type tyres on 2 strokes are unstable during corners... cruisers are more stable then it

safer: to me id say sportsbikes

cheaper: cruisers less wear n tear n engine should be in a better condition cause no hellriders on em :cheeky:

Safety is a matter of rider attitude and skill...the kind of bike may have a small part to play but you will note that accidents involve all sorts of different bikes.

Before you start riding, you might want to think about how much you want to spend...and don't forget to allocate a good amount for safety equipment. Take a good look at what accidents riders can get into and how the injuries can look like, then decide what kind of risk you are willing to take with yourself...leading to what kind of protection gear you would need.

After putting aside that, you can then decide how much you want to spend for a bike, new or used, and the kind of bike to get. The decision will be based on what your riding preferences are. Obviously, sports bikes are perceived as fast and stable, scooters as slow and comfortable, and there is a whole spectrum in between. I suggest look at the web to research the different styles of bike, then decide which one appeals to you most. Then go and sit on some of them and see which posture is better for you. This helps you narrow your list down so you can make a more realistic choice.

Above all, be true to yourself on what the right bike is. Everybody has a different preference...but you have to ride the bike you get for yourself. So take your time to search, research and experience...then buy.

Also, don't forget to factor in the cost of insurance as that can be a killer for younger riders.

All the best!

Personally, I feel you should tell your parents bro...at least let them know. Secondly, do not think about what bike to buy or ride til' you have officially got your licence. Getting the licence is one thing, owning a bike is another and so on n so forth. Not to be a party pooper but it's best tt way. Take the steps one at a time to be a rider...:thumb:

you might seriously want to consider asking your parents for their permission... nothing worse than getting your license and bike, only to have your parents find out and you have to give up both...

if they say no to you and motorcycles initially, dont give up hope... they are concerned for your safety and rightfully so... what they want to see from you is that you are goin to try your best to be a safe and responsible rider... they also want to know that the intentions for you getting a bike are for utility first and foremost...

as for actually getting a bike, take it step by step and finishing getting your license first... make sure you have enough money saved for to: get the bike, pay for insurance, misc repairs that might follow, petrol... nothing worse than having your dream bike but no money for petrol or too hungry to ride...

Cheap + fast = no good

Cheap + good = not fast

Good + fast = not cheap

I suggest you read more about bikes and ask your friends who ride about bikes. They will more than willing to teach you.

Come to think of it, u do have a point bro :/

I am more inclined to say sports bike more stable/safer cause I rode a krr for a year before changing to 2a sports bikes :s

So far no accidents while riding but for a fact I can say my krr was damn unstable at anything > 150km/h …2a sports bikes my handle bars wont feel shaky :D

Insurance premiums dependant on accident rate on that type of bikes meh ?

sportsbike premium are highest, followed by scramblers and kup cais, then cruisers..

and why sportsbikes premium are the highest?

new 2b riders dunno how to control the bike properly, only know how to go fast and overestimate their handling on the bike, hence results in more accidents.. and causes everybody's premium to shoot up.. :dot:
