AHHA. yea. basic riding gear for me is FF and gloves with knuckle protection. even minor accidents most prob the first to stretch out are you hands. ff is common sense. whats the probability of you landing so nicely vertically head first? most probably u will land with ur jaw area hitting the ground first. open face in these cases will be rendered useless. also, NEVER WEAR SLIPPERS AND RIDE.

Hi guys,

I just passed my tp last thursday and am getting my bike this saturday. Even though I know I'll look like a spanner sitting on a tiny cbr150r putting on my mesh jacket, gloves, bala and FF, I think I'd rather risk looking stupid than actually being stupid and believing that nothing will happen to me hehehe.

u got my vote on that.

U prefer to be laughed at? Or prefer to have road rash or other injuries?

hi guys! yeah i'm very anglicised... tend to use alot of british slang lol. anw i got my bike today and already nearly kenna accident because some car was speeding on the opposite side of the road around a blind corner along old upp. thomson road (devil's bend there).

yes i guess wearing a mesh jacket is definitely a better choice than not wearing a jacket because of the heat.

confirm u will feel warmer den usual when ure going slowly.

but the heat is bearable and can be gotten used to.

when you're riding a bike, you'll get ALOT of near accidents so start getting used to your bike and adopt a defensive riding mindset...and good job choosing proper riding gear over style..you'll be rewarded someday i'm sure..

ride safe...

totally agree. u gotta ride like playing chess. have to sometimes be able to see a few events ahead with respect to whats gonna happen on the road. for example if your lane is clear, and the lane beside u has alot of cars and is moving quite slowly, be prepared for a car to suddenly cut out into your lane

Damm.. i love tis ts.. tis thread is so logical man..

Let me share my story with you bros..

You can see below what bike i rode 1year ago..

I wore Padded Jacket, Arai FF, Full glove and was riding Yb100..

Yes, its quite funny & almost all of my frens and others laugh and criticized at me.. I ignored and i kept in mind thats its all for my own safety..

One day i wore one Tshirt with burms and slipper and rode my phantom with pillion to town.. Never know that day would be the most unlucky day of my riding time.. I kena bird sh1t.. when otw home i lost way.. Sudden saw one PIE TUAS.. From 1st lane direction change to 3rd lane.. between 4th and 3rd lane was one long triangle kerb.. I hit the kerb and my bike self skid.. The moment i got up, i quickly pull the bike to one side and called for ambulance.. I did not felt pain during the moment of shock.. The most lucky thing was no vehicle was exiting the one way expressway.. After me and pillon have sent to hospital.. Walan, damm hard to remove the bandage and web due to stick to the flesh.. After re bandaged.. I walked totally 100% like a robot.. My whole left and right HANDS/LEG were bandaged fully.. Luckly i wore a FF.. Leaving a big scratch on the chin part at the h3lm.. I cant imagine if i wear open face h3lm.. My jaw sure gone case.. Luckly the pillon was fine too.. My uncle once told me that one out of a thousand time.. you dunno when you will kena.. Just protect yourself.. Better be safe thn sorry.. Sight, i did not take his advice and i end up in a bad state..

Till now iam riding Honda rebel 125.. During riding, i will wear a Glove, padded jacket, norm jeans, norm shoe, Same ff i was wearing.. I belived alot ppl still laugh at me when they see me fully equiped with a non Sporty bike.. But to me, i dun give a damm.. cos i have learnt my lesson..

Off topic: Once i pass my class 2.. I gonna get a busa and get those tip top equipments from up to down.. down to up.. And prove my fren and others wrong (who have laughed at me)!

when you get your busa, where you intend to keep your stuff after riding??

My dad got into an accident when a taxi suddenly cut into his lane to pick up a passenger. He hit the back and superman over the taxi... the entire top row of his teeth got knocked out because he was wearing an open face. Was in hospital for a week. Now he needs to wear a full set of dentures...

I wear a FF now to prevent the same thing from happening to me. Leceh to take out and put on (since I wear glasses) but I like my teeth...

My bike is stock! Please don't jio me!

bro, i advise u to get a new ff. helmets after accidents may not be as safe anymore even though it looks fine on the outside. thats cos the compound on the interior of the helmet has alr been damaged and not safe to use alr. better to be safe than sorry! money can always earn back, life once gone is gone forever

@Predestined: I think when you have narrowed it down to those two brands it becomes a question of preference rather than performance. To me, they are both "top notch".

late 2009, my workplace got 2 colleagues with bike accident. One colleague pillion his wife, he slightly injured but his wife got facial injury, becoz not wearing full face. Another guy who ride home to Gelang Petah everyday got serious accident. He collided with another biker who died. he suffered fractured every where & has facial injury on his jaw & teeths.

My younger brother had bike accident becoz he drink & ride. he fractured his ribs & collar bone.

I think is best to ride defensively, maybe attend the defensive riding course. I attended & its really useful. Also important to wear mesh jacket with hard ribs & spine armour which are CE approved types. Why? Coz I have biker friends who told me they hv friends who are on wheel chair for life becoz of spinal injury. The spinal column vertbrae can fracture easily if not protected with hard armour. Also wear at least a flip up full face if wearing glasses. Wear leather gloves & biker shoes which are water proof , leather & armoured & which do not come off during a bike accident. I wear all these & bought them mostly from Motorworld & LAB. I bought them piece by piece over the months, so not so painful.

@tt6389: good points about the back protection, riding defensively and getting protected piece by piece. being so exposed on the roads, riders should use EVERY POSSIBLE MEANS to protect themselves...to me...this is true even if it meant "eating grass" for a few months to get the items piece by piece...rather than eating the tarmac.

time to update the article!

i was advised to invest more on the rider than the bike. not sure abt u guys.

to me, bikes can be replaced with another bike, but our limbs, legs... etc. cannot be replaced. :)
