eh ah pek .. for the past 2mths hor.. my engine seems to be making more noise then usual .. last time was just the ticking sound which might be coming from the valve.. this time i suspect the timing chain inside gone case liao.. not really sure about this though..

Hi Savaltron..sorry, don't think I can conclude anything for you base on a post statement like this as to agreed with you that the sound is that of timing chain. I have to hear it myself.

But if you are sure about it, the timing or cam chain I believe so can be adjusted and this done by means of opening the stud looking thingy in lower front/between the carbs. A bolt has to be remove to access an adjusting screw which meant to tension the chain..however its not that direct. The placement of stroke cycle has to be initiated and reference taken from the advance viewing window. This stroke movement is done by triggering the start button without starting the bike. Best to go to a mototiam that knows how to do it. Asked first and make sure they done this before.

It may not be the chain problem but the "slippers" of the tensioner out of working status.

may be u can try to get a exp rider/mech u know to verify the fluid..

did it affect your fuel consumption in any way?

bike may be overheating.

check ya cooling system, coolant levels, fan working, any other leakages..

best is to start by checking both coolant levels (main + reserve)

Hi Ah Pek,

I've been riding my FQVerS for the past 4mths and they was a lot of problems with it during the initial stages. Now after a little tweak here and there everything seems ok accept for the fuel gauge. It's totally dead! Help me on that plz. Tried lloking fot the broken fuse but all of my fuse are all in good condition. So it could be the wiring in the headlights rite?

Yo bro, I bought my super 4 in Jul 05 for 4500 including insurance, GST. Mine is a version S. So far has not given me any problems yet. Previously was riding a TZM. So much problem.

But now my bike is starting to give me some problems to come u guys offer me some help.

1. Clicking sound. I read here that if ya change yur timing chain it would be reduced but is there any need for change of chain and sprocket. Please advice, my chain and sprocket is relatively new also.

2. My bike wobbles when I ride with only one hand( on the throttle). When I make a sharp turn it wobbles, initially i though it was cos of my box. I took out my box and I must say that the wobbling has reduced but still wobble a bit. issit the wheel bearings, steering cone or other factors. Will changing to a heavier balancer help in any way?

3. I wanna respray my bike to spec 3 design. Can u tell me a gd shop but they should charge too much. When the shop respray the bike can we ask for a extra layer of lacquer.

4. My suspension coil and the needle inside the coil are rusty also. Can we service them or replace them at any bike shop u know?

Hope my questions are answered.

Thanks for your time reading bros......

if when u pull the cluch does the noise stop if so then its not timing it might be the clutch bearing ,if not new timing chain, ur chain and sprocket will be fine not connected to timing, as for wobel`s most likely wheel bearings, sprocket carryer bearing or headstock bearings had the same thing changed all now wobel free best to replace shock`s xjr ohlins much better thats all i can help u with good luck with it:

Have you check the two pin socket connector below your tank on the right side..may be it has not be put back properly or not at all?

If this is not the case, its either the wiring like you said or the gauage float switch in the tank Ko-Yak liao.

wats the purpose of the holes???

To prevent leakage of the coolant system to the lubricating system and vise versa, there are two seals on the pump shaft. These are drainage holes and if either seals fails, these holes allows the coolant or oil to escape and prevent the oil from and coolant from mixing.

Am afraid that these seals comes in as an assembly of the pump, the pump may have to be replace. But before proceeding, best to do a coolant drain and rinse and top up with new coolant first. Before you drain the coolant, go around all the coolant hose and check for clogs by externally squeezing all the water hose. If you get biscuit (especially when the rubber hose feels 'hard') cracking feeling each time you squeeze, the system somewhere may be clogged and causes the leak. At any rate, just drain and do a coolant refill. As you are topping up, do rev your bike and see if the coolant from the radiator cap opening is sinking in and out (show pump is working). After this if the holes still show sign of 'leak', the pump seals on the shaft may be faulty. No coolant flow can oso be caused by non operative thermostat or bad sensor radiator fan switch that does not actuate to help in cooling when things gets hot.

Again, I may be wrong...but do seek a few trustworthy mech who really knows for a second/third/fourth opinion. o_O

Hi ah Pek, i'm having a similiar problem as KanNiTuDou but only the left hole is leaking out coolent. This has been going on for several weeks while i just top-up coolent every few days. Recently i the bottom(near the side stand) starts to flow out coolent whenever i warm up, leak(notice on the bottom of my jeans) and spill like nobody's business when i park overnight. Now i have to top-up the coolent ~twice a day. Everytime reserve tank is drained and main coolent requires top-up. Suspect it's gone case (usual ver s cooling system prob causing $1+k to repair) and water pump might be spoilt($100+?)

Do you have the same sentiment as me? If yes, most likely selling it off(bikeshop) for some accessories fees.(any recommendations?)

Not intending to repair if it requires major servicing as 'she' is approaching her 10th anniversary and her extension not purchased yet.(current renewal~$1k)

Life's a gift... That's why they called it the present.

Sentiment?..of course not lah.

Huh?...$1K +..who try to sucker you into that. A brand new pump cost $200+, set of silicon coolant hose cost less than $200 and a pump $200+.. Anyway, selling the bike is not any wiser. S4 is a hardy bike much like a Catus plant that nature create to survive in the desert. You may buy another bike after selling yours and get into more speding..hot pot into a frying pan situation and penny wise pound foolish senario. Don't 'run' away from problem..problem are meant to be solved.:cheeky:

Your problem to me is considered 'minor' though it would run into some $s but not that much. As for your bottom leak..I suspected its either one of the coolant hose ( a complete set is about $180..partial, $30 -$50 the very most) has a cracked along its' body or and either and most likely, your circlip that tighten the hose to the coolant tubing is not tight (cost you nothing).

As for the hole leakage, its because of overheating and into high pressure and ths caused is likely clogs or dirty coolant path. It best just to drain, then do aclean water rinsing and refill up again. The overheating may be caused by a bad thermistor radiator fan switch (may be temperature sensing is out) which cost around $38 but unlikely. However, have to check the fan servicebility status too.

In short..need not to fred..why not pm me and see when you can come down and let me diagnose your mechanical wife situation...no worries, won't take her to bed

:cheeky: Becareful yah? Ride safe and defensive to ride for many many more years on your ride. Am glad all is well as you expected of it. I guess I have optimized somewhat the best of blend in eo where engine stress and performance has reach a stisfying level. Oh yes, your bike deserve all the care and goodies! :cheeky:
