3 possibilities..coolant system stuck due to clogs along somewhere like thermostat (jammed)...coolant pump not working and lastly but not least..could be ur radiator cap or the its elbow joint cracked (leak u can't see as it's under ur tank and evaporate as "vapor".

Anyone bought ahboy meter b4 for ver s?

Not advisable..unless u just want a meter for show..if u r lucky..it works for a longer while than its' MTBR (Mean Time Before Fault) which is unpredictable. Take ur time..save up and get an original and ride happily ever after.

Can you push start the bike? if no, means ignition spoilt. happened to me in november last year. rid to orchard, park 5 min, then cannot start.

replace ignition about $100 local set, if genuine honda will be more ex.

It's the ignition. Was charged $155 for OEM part.

Hi Ah Pek & other Seniors,

I just got my 1997 Version S and I changed engine oil and oil filter. Shop put for me 3 liter fully synthetic maxima engine oil and i feel the smoothness of engine. But today i ride around 5o km and i saw engine oil leaking from the cap like thing behind the 4 header pipes to the engine. I think this big cap is the oil filter. I can see some oil spread on header pipes too. My meter is also not working properly as i donno it will warn me or not, if the engine oil level drop. Please advice is this leaking is a severe issue as I am new to CB400.

If u just bought the bike from the shop..just go back to them and let them know that they sold u a bike with engine block blown gasket. Yes.this is no good and eo level will drop and how bad it is depends on the degree of the leakage..it's not good. Tell them they sold u wif a bad meter too.

Hi S4ians, would like to seek advice on which is better choice, PB1 or ver S?

appreciate for your time.

Both same same lah bro..the one better would be the one that do not have hidden engine block, coolant system or suspension problems. One major difference is that PB1 has a better exhaust 4-1 system and is purely good guage stainless steel header and pipe.

Please note that I'm just guessing base on ur discription but since here u mentioned "oil filter"..it may be not tighten properly or filter use is wrong or damage due to wrong tools used to tighten the oil filter. In this case..u should go back to the shop and asked them to redo it..free of course..perhaps can asked them actually what's wrong as this never happened b4 u patronised them for eo change. Anyway..need help, just sms me a day ahead for any meet up to chck ur bike if needed..90670020.

Both have and what I meant by "hidden"..meaning..engine block may have leaking gasket (washed off with kerosene and u can't see), coolant may be leaking from hole/holes due to blow gasket or inner water jacket cracked (using tap clear water..leak u won't see)..front fork or back suspension..oil seal leak but washed of oil u won't see..hope this makes things clearer. Also check for milo color in the coolant reserve tank reservoir ( below the seat on the ride side..have to take off side cover...if u see this..at least 75% to 95% u may have a rusty radiator, coolant pump and a jammed clogged thermostat)..if u see this, squeeze all the the coolant rubber hoses for that "cracking biskuit" effects..it means internal rusting from radiator a long time liao.

Much appreciated for your explanation! I will keep a lookout for these symptoms. Thanks again!

y ah pek mentioned hidden engine block, coolant system or suspension problems? is these typical problems for S4? i think might hv suspension n coolant problem. like some bros here, at times, riding for a while will create lots of heat n it comes out from below the seat. then my suspension also weak, u helped me adjust liao but still cannot make it. i think hv to service my suspension liao. which shop u told me can service suspension at low price?

Actually all Honda S4 version are very hardy bikes. Whatever problem it has is due to improper maintaineance. Buying second hand ones always has risk as previous owner may be the type who just know how to ride and pump petrol and don't know what coolant is plus most mototiam uses tap water for coolant replenishment when coolant level is low or insufficient.

For suspension..can go to Teck Thye at 12 Bradell Road..name is David..tell him I recommended u..u get better quality job and cheaper.

hi to all non vtec s4 rider can anyone share me what should i look out when buying a ver s i use to ride spec 1 b4 change to other bike suddenly feel like to ride s4 again lol

ive been facing a problem wit my ride for quite some time...ytd while riding i felt my bike jerking with tat engine dying off kind of feeling, like the tank not feeding petrol to the engine like tat...i always got tat whenever im going into reserve but i check my mileage its only 260km n the petrol gauge hasnt end yet but i turn the knob to reserve anyways where the bike performs back to normal...

20km later went petrol station top up to the brim but reading only reads 14L...which means my tank goes reserves way before 15L...

tis issue been around for awhile though but previously are not tis bad so anyone had face tis problem before? or anyone might know what is wrong? i find it odd tat the tank can change the amount petrol it can hold before going into reserve..
