Gosh, I can't think of a better way to phrase the topic title. Anyway, what I meant is, if a guy has insurance and roadtax already paid BUT is not the current owner of the bike (meaning name not transferred to him yet), is it legal for him to be on the roads?

Becoz a friend is selling his X1 to another buyer. He is thinking of riding down to LTA with his R6 while the buyer rides the X1 there. Finish transferring business there then part ways... easier this way.

Yes, so long as the bike hv a valid road tax & the biker hv a valid insurance.

Bike can only hv one legal owner at all time.

Rider of a bike can hv many many many, as long is cover under insurance & with a valid road tax.

someone in this forum ever mentioned that there is a 'fine print' in the insurance policy that in this case the insurance is not valid.

If want to play safe, better call up insurance hotline to clarify.

Wud help if u cud record the conversation as well.

The buyer's insurance will only be valid when the transfer of ownership is done.

if that is a concern...

can ask the seller take out 1 day insurance on the bike (if he alr cancel his insurance) and add the buyer as subrider. of course buyer must bear the cost lor...

buyer also take out insurance on the bike as well

in that way, 1 cover the time before transfer, 1 cover the time after transfer, confirm no problem

better hope the buyer dont crash on the way, then refuse to buy the damaged bike and play punk

Truth is, we're not all saints and angels. Sometimes we do 'borrow' other peoples bikes for a good cause.

Such as figuring out for a friend what's that strange mechanical noise.

But I won't risk it if it's an open road; different configuration of a bike owned by someone else means I'll be a threat to other road users automatically. Hence non-owner riders being outlawed.

How much does it cost to add someone as a co-rider? Just curious; may need someone else to take care of my bike if I'm away for extended periods (take care meaning use the bike).

Insurance depends on the age ,riding records and company.

To ride a others bike your name had to be added to the bike as a riders with the insurance coverage specifically under the vehicle numbers.

If not ..... good luck and COC 13 applicable " do anything you want but don't get caught"

First the insurance company will determine the sub rider premium if he was the owner. If his premium is same, then just need to pay $20+ for transfer. Usually is because sub rider is same age/experience or older/more experience than main rider. Otherwise, you will have to top up the difference in premium to add the sub rider. For example, I am paying $700 for my bike. My sub rider is younger than me, therefore his preimum is $900. Then you will have to top up $200 to add him.
