Anyone knows wat the best price for Konda or Nolan? I'm planning to buy a flipup and hve been using Nolan. Now wear and tear must buy new one. Konda rec'd good reviews but will only consider if below $250.

So, did anyone recently made any purchases of either helmet recently? Tks.

Caberg flip up is much lighter than the rest in the market. The fitting was slightly tight at first, however due to its flexible shell, it will follow according to your head fitting when worn after few times.

Nolan flip-up helmets are notorious for its heavy weight. However, being a seasoned Nolan-user like yourself, i'm sure you know this brand better than me compared with other brands.

You can check out the hjc is-max flip up. It's much better built than the rjays touratech and the air vent works well too. Motorworld is having a promotion at $180.

Hope my review helps :)

Tks for ur review. Yes I like Caberg but the price is the question. Nolan is very reliable. All mechanism working well after 5 yrs usage but u're right on the weight but it's well balanced, so don't feel heavy. HJC-MAX seem to have good price. Will definitely consider. Are u using one now?

Tks bro. Caberg I like but if price close to nolan, I rather take nolan. Seems Hjc is value for money with two pple in favor.

I have used all three of them except the nolan. My current helmet is caberg rhino. I believe the caberg konda will have improved air ventillation.

The hjc max is bit heavy and the m-size is too tight for me, L-size would be better. Got frequent headaches and eventually pass the helmet to my fiancee which fit her nicely. Luckily for the caberg rhino, the shell is flexible thus wearing the m-size isn't a problem. (HJC - $180 , Caberg - $380)

Take your time in trying various helmets, a tight fit doesn't mean a best fit.

hmm I would strongly rec Caberg if pricing is similar to Nolan....

the two helmet utilise 2 diff material for each type....

I'm very piss off wif nolan visor esp since it a long reputable brand for flip up (think they are the 1st to make flip up)

but each to his own mate...

Most impt, comfy snug fit & pocket is happy & the rider is happy ..lol:clap:

Yup same helmet as me Rhyno aka trip...

I used to own a justimmo & it si reari a class of it own...

HJC is nt bad (Pricing, Design, Ventilation) but cutting wise on the bulker side...

Cheers!!!

Wow, $380 for Caberg seems pricey. Which model is it? Yes, I usually will try the helmet before I buy:D. Looks like HJC is a good value buy.

Wat's wrong with Nolan's visor?? Is the model u referring to N103??

For me, Nolan is not the perfect helmet but it's very reliable; the two helmets I used previously, N101 and N102 hve their flaws but their spring mechanism very robust. Still working after use 5yrs:D....but it's getting pricer so looking for next best value helmet and hopefully the same reliability.

I'm using a IS-MAX, the fitting is quite good, fit snugly over my head and the cheek pads on my cheeks. It is about 1.8kg as written on the helmet.

However, as compared to Rjay's Tour Tech which I used before, the area of visibility is lower than it but not to the extend of cannot see anything on the side. The HJC IS-MAX tend to sit a little too high on the head as compared to filp-ups such as Tour Tech but because of it, the cheek pads fit nicely over my head.

The simplistic function of you being able to filp up the helmet and visor without much difficult is much lauded as compared to the Tour Tech that I used, sometimes I had to struggle to flip up. The air vents of the IS-MAX are well placed for both sports and street riders, be it whether you bend a little lower or not, and most importantly, it is functioning, I can actually feel the air flowing through the vents unlike the Tour Tech. However, during showers, remember to close up the air vents. I had forgotten to close up the air vents on several occasions, causing a slight amount of water to enter into the helmet and soaking the lining and my balaclava alike.

The HJC IS-MAX is a good buy indeed but the sun visor leaves much to desire for. The tinting of the visor is not dark enough, the system of whereby you have to use the visor is somewhat inconvenient, you have to go all the way back of the helmet in order to bring down the visor, can be a safety hazard when riding. Lastly, there are no D-rings on the IS-MAX, it is a buckle system that may or may not hold the helmet in place in the event of an accident. The IS MAX do not comes with a PSB sticker so some riders might be put off by that fact. I don't care, PSB is not a safety standard, in my opinion.

All in all, it is a good helmet for riding. It will not shake so much when riding at high speed (above 120km/h) when I go for touring as compared to the Tour Tech. At a good price too. All this, in my opinion.

On a side note, do take care of your visors as Motoworld do not selling visors and sun visors for IS-MAX. I scratched my clear visor and broke my sun visor and could't get a replacement for it at Motoworld because they say they don't bring in those visors. Hmm, anybody knows where to get them?

Oh, another helmet in HJC's line of Flip ups you can consider is the SY-MAX II, there are good reviews for it.

Also, if you are willing to pay for a Caberg, might as well consider the Shoei Multitech, a really good filp up.

Here are the reviews for these 3 helmets,

1. HJC IS-MAX

2. HJC Sy-Max II

3. Shoei Multitech

Oh, I'm sorry for introducing other Filp ups for your consideration in addition to your Caberg and Nolan, if it confuses you :D

I'm a Tutor! Proud to be one!

Thanks for the review, very helpful indeed. Caberg at $380 too rich for my blood.....if price $250 below...:D.

No, tks for recommending other helmets...it's not confusing and always good to hve different views:D. IS-Max at $180 is a very attractive price and all bros seems to be pointing towards HJC as value for money...definitely is going on my list for consideration.

I'm sure other bros/sis will appreciate the reviews u guys are giving for the helmets u're using.....good budget flip up helmets are always welcome:)

with the budget best bet will be HJC mate....

Caberg U can try source for 2nd hand in gd condition in SBF....

Do note that u can't get the best of both world....

robust mechansim = heavy parts

Caberg for example has many plastic parts....

I love to 'break' helmet up to see what is inside....

of course with 2nd hands lah....

to have a very good clean....

If u nid help in any 'breaking'....

i can assist...lol

Cheers!!!

Yeah, I'll probably pop by Motoworld to take a look at the HJC.

Well, the Nolan, though heavy, is balanced, thus, don't feel so heavy. So, u were talking about the visor issue.........can u elaborate on what's wrong with the visor??

$380 for caberg rhyno/trip? a little ex.. :s i bought it for slightly more than $200 at regina..

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.

Was at Motoworld to look at the HJC IS-MAX. Tried the XL size(yes, I've a big head:D). The fit is good and firm. Overall, $180 is good value for helmet. Only a few concerns:

1) It sits a little `high' on the head...thus, vision a little limited but no big issue.

2) Visor

a) opening as mentioned by others.....opening by 1 click leaves a bigger gap than desired.

b) Opening Visor tend to flex it.....like as though the visor is too thin....but it is not.

3) SunShade - Tint not sufficently dark but it is still ok. I only don't like the position of the level to operate the sunshade. Also not comfortable with spring loaded level. The clip on the level seems like can drop out anytime.

4) Level to open the flipup very `soft'.......can easily open...too easy.....seems not robust. Afraid of two things; the flipup open during fall and......the level break and cannot open flipup...ha...ha....

5) Strap - Push button to unstrap.......too `easy'....one slight touch and the strap is open....to me dangerous.

6) Bottom side cushions seems a little `fragile'........but tat's my opnion.....not a big deal.

Overall, quality of helmet and inner cushions looks good. My main concern is item 4 and 5. Item 2 and 3 is more of an irrantant...not a deal breaker.

Was at Regina and inquired about two helmets price:

1) Nolan N103 = $330

2) Caberg Konda = $280

I did not bargain yet...though they say it's after discount. Didn't ask about other helmets as these are the two I was interested in.....besides HJC IS-MAX which has been mentioned previously as costing $180......promotion price at Motoworld.
