Thank you for the amazing trip. My mind is still roaming around in Cameron - hard to focus at work :p. The part that I absolutely LOVED about the trip was that it was exactly what it was advertised to be. There were no unpleasant surprises, relaxed itinerary with lots of riding around. Perfect getaway for a long weekend. And easy for small bikes/newbie bikers like me. Got to know my bike a lot more, its potential and its limits(always pump fuel and do not wait for Shell!). And lots of interesting people.

Awesome stuff!

With posts like these on the SBF Cameron Highland 2010 Ride thread, the Group got all excited and raring to go. Everyone gathered promptly at Gelang Patah Petronas on the cool night of 4 Nov 2010. Old friends were happy to meet and new introductions were made. Quincy and his team busily went about their pre-ride routine. People were seen happily inspecting the goodies from our sponsors and slapping the stickers on their rides.

After the ride safety briefing, we all got a pleasant surprise when Bunny hopped out with a cake topped with lighted candles. Soon the Group burst out in song... “Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to Quincyyyy...” How fitting it was for a hardcore biker to celebrate his birthday by organising a trip to the Highlands.

Group 1 moved off in convoy from Gelang Patah at about 12.15am, 5 Nov. Some were virgin tourers, some were well oiled seasoned ones but as a group, the convoy of bikers rode as one. We made our pit-stops at Machap, Pagoh, Ayer Keroh, Dengkil, Tg Malim and finally Tapah. The ride up north was uneventful except for a slight drizzle after Pagoh. Although most of us didn’t get wet, rain suits were promptly worn at the next pit stop. Y0s-bikey, the Group 1 In-Charge, didn’t like that the convoy was getting too long and thus made changes to the order of bikes. Kupkias led the way in front, followed by Bajaj, Phantom, NSR SP, Daelims, the Super Fours and Fuoco bringing up the rear. With this formation, the convoy became tighter. What a disciplined bunch!

Separately, Group 2 with PaLmEr in-charge had also moved off from Gelang Patah at about 2+am, 5 Nov to rendezvous at Tapah in the morning.

http://www.singaporebikes.com/gallery/data/530/medium/SBFCHR10_0074.jpg

8.20am... Tapah! The sun was already peeking out shortly after we left Dengkil. Though tired from the long ride, everyone pushed on and enjoyed the beautiful sunrise over the vast green surroundings along the way. A well deserved 1.5 hours was given for the Group to enjoy a hearty breakfast at Tapah before we embarked on what we really signed up for.

After breakfast, a recce team was deployed ahead at 10am before the main Group moved off, to check out the road conditions up the Highlands. Upon confirmation that it was safe to proceed, the main group begins moving up the old road up Cameron Highlands with stops made along the way for all to enjoy the cool, fresh countryside air and some photo taking.

On the last leg of the journey to Tanah Rata for lunch, one of the Group 1 riders enjoyed the bends so much even his luggage got excited! A bungy cord and what looked like slippers were seen flying off his bike. The appointed sweeper, dutifully made a U-turn to retrieve them for him.

12.55pm, Lunch at Tanah Rata. This is how hungry we were:

http://www.singaporebikes.com/gallery/data/530/medium/SBFCHR10_0379.JPG

Home, sweet home!!!

Well, for the next 3 days, anyway. Though we were all exhilarated from riding up the twisting roads to Brinchang, we were all visibly tired. Thus most of us enjoyed our power naps after checking in.

http://www.singaporebikes.com/gallery/data/530/medium/SBFCHR10_0403.JPG

Ride, eat, smoke (for some), ride some more in cool refreshing climate, sleep and...

http://www.singaporebikes.com/gallery/data/530/medium/SBFCHR10_0444.JPG

We were in Bikers’ heaven! Dinner started at about 7.30pm, at Nik Ikan Bakar dan Tom Yam (Nik’s Grilled Fish and Tom Yam Restaurant) in Brinchang, a short ride up from Desa Anthurium. Though it was raining all arrived at the restaurant safely and in good spirits. When the delicious Thai-style Malay food was served, we all tucked in hungrily.

Undaunted by the showers that continued to pour from the heavens above or because of it, we happily left the restaurant to walk the Pasar Malam (Night Market) in rain coats, helmets and all. Whatever it was that got sprinkled down with the rain, it soon turned 4 bikers into Strawberry Angels.

Day 2

Being well rested after the long ride from home, we were up bright and early the next day. All were ready to wake up the Highlands with the roar of our bikes.

http://www.singaporebikes.com/gallery/data/530/medium/SBFCHR10_0509.JPG

First stop was for breakfast at Ringlet, approximately 20 minutes from Brinchang. The ride there was typical Cameronian Twisties.

http://www.singaporebikes.com/gallery/data/530/medium/SBFCHR10_0544.JPG

http://www.singaporebikes.com/gallery/data/530/medium/SBFCHR10_0563.JPG

With everyone and their bikes re-fuelled, we soon made our way to the Boh Plantation at Ringlet. As the factory tour was not available that day, most of us enjoyed a short trek up the tea plantation viewpoint. A few remained at the visitors’ centre to enjoy the hot tea and pastries. There were many visitors to the plantation and to our amusement; we soon discovered that our bikes became THE tourist attraction for the day. People were taking pictures and kids of all ages soon clambered on the bikes for their parents to photograph them.

http://www.singaporebikes.com/gallery/data/530/medium/SBFCHR10_0671.jpg

Having had enough tea and trekking, we re-grouped at about 11am and headed out for another great ride. The ride soon brought us to a Strawberry and Bee Farm.

http://www.singaporebikes.com/gallery/data/530/medium/SBFCHR10_0764.jpg

Strawberries, honey and tea.

Strawberries, honey and tea.

Sounds like a refrain from a soppy country/folk song, right? Well, that’s what we got but we never grew tired of it. Perhaps it’s because growing up in a city like Sillypore, visiting the farms was a refreshing and welcomed change.

Next stop lunch at Brinchang. After lunch, we headed to another Bee Farm - Ee Feng Gu and Cactus Point.

http://www.singaporebikes.com/gallery/data/530/medium/SBFCHR10_0833.jpg

Bee amidst luscious greens

http://www.singaporebikes.com/gallery/data/530/medium/SBFCHR10_0866.jpg

Everyone had plenty of time to enjoy themselves, with a general sense of camaraderie and new friendships blossoming. The favourite Sillypore pastime wasn’t forgotten and people were seen with jars of honey and cactus plants in their shopping bags.

The evening soon crept up on us, and it was time to gather up for the ride back towards Brinchang for dinner.

If you haven’t had the chance to enjoy steamboat without perspiring, then you must visit Cameron Highlands for the experience!

http://www.singaporebikes.com/gallery/data/530/medium/SBFCHR10_0925.JPG

http://www.singaporebikes.com/gallery/data/530/medium/SBFCHR10_0917.jpg

As we were enjoying the spread before us, the heavens opened up again. It was really pouring this time. It was just as well because everyone was enjoying themselves indoors with the sumptuous steamboat. When the food was gone and well digested, the Sillyporean spirit took over and we headed out to the Pasar Malam for another walkabout and more shopping!

With dinner and shopping all done for the day, the hardy bikers proved their mettle by riding down the mountain towards home in the rain. Well done, guys and gals!

Unbeknownst to the trip OCs, earlier in the day at the Strawberry and Bee Farm, Datuk Stoner was negotiating with the Sultan and got His Highness’ blessings. Datuk Stoner then quietly announced the good news to a few selected friends. At about 10pm that night, the spanking new Stoner Sands Resort Casino was opened for business!

As the Casino license is still subject to the final cross-border red tape, which we all know may take a while; pictures are not available for publication at this time. We are also not able to confirm if other “activities” had taken place that night at the other premises occupied by the Group.

Day 3

The trip is now beginning to feel like the regimented army life most Sillyporeans are used too. Gather for breakfast and “we’re moving off at 0800hrs SHARP!”, Quincy could be heard telling everyone at the end of each day’s tour.

http://www.singaporebikes.com/gallery/data/530/medium/SBFCHR10_0960.jpg

0800hrs it is, when we left our lodgings for the day to hunt for our breakfast. By now even the virgin tourers have been converted into true blue hardcore bikers. All were eagerly and punctually assembled. The convoy rode up towards the by now familiar Brinchang town. Although we have ridden up this stretch of roads at least once a day since arriving, the views and the ride itself was still quite enchanting.

The variety of delicious food here also left no one for want of choice. We soon found ourselves breaking into smaller groups to have breakfast at different kopitiams or hawker centres simply because it was more convenient to seat everyone comfortably.

The Group gathered at about 9.45am after their unhurried breakfast. We then found out that we would be riding to another Boh Tea Plantation. Some minor groans were overheard but we were assured that it was worth it.

The route took us along the by now familiar main road out of Brinchang town. Familiar, but it was still fun to “play” with. As we branched off the main road the “thrill” factor of the ride and beautiful landscape were notched upped to a level we’ve yet to experience. The Plantation road was only a little more than a mid-sized car’s width bordered on one side by the mountain itself and steep cliffs and valleys on the other. The moderately slow pace caused by the narrow road gave each of us that luxury of being able to take in the acres of tea plant terraced mountain-side. Priceless... Thank you, SBF!

http://www.singaporebikes.com/gallery/data/530/medium/SBFCHR10_1000.JPG

Sungai Palas Boh Plantation

We arrived to find great spots to park our bikes. The privileged few even had gated secure-parking!

http://www.singaporebikes.com/gallery/data/530/medium/SBFCHR10_1005.JPG

http://www.singaporebikes.com/gallery/data/530/medium/SBFCHR10_1016.JPG

As promised, this place was truly worth it. This plantation produces one of the world’s best tea blends known as the Sungei Palas Supreme tea. The Visitors Centre was filled with tea plantation/processing exhibits with clearly labelled info placards to rival that of the Singapore Science Centre. Possibly the best attraction for the tired tourist is the 100+ seat ‘ummph’ Teashop. It overhangs the highest point of the valley with a drop of 50 metres to the sharply inclined ground below.

http://www.singaporebikes.com/gallery/data/530/medium/SBFCHR10_1119.jpg

Our youngest participants, awanti03 and hong9g, posing with the antique solid brass tea rolling table. The table is twice as “young” as they were!

http://www.singaporebikes.com/gallery/data/530/medium/SBFCHR10_1023.JPG

Our next stop was the Big Red Strawberry Farm. As the name suggests, this is the mother of all strawberry farms. Accessed via a narrow cobbled pathway lined with shops on both sides, we rode cautiously amongst other tourists walking along the path in shopping mode. This farm not only produces strawberries it also produces some of the fresh vegetables and herbs we take for granted in our Sillypore supermarkets. The main shop serves all manner of strawberry derived food and beverages. The adjacent dry-goods section featured strawberry chocolate and gums to strawberry umbrellas.

http://www.singaporebikes.com/gallery/data/530/medium/SBFCHR10_1162.jpg

We spent a good 3 hours at the farm before experiencing what must be the highlight of the trip; the ride out. Once all bikers were gathered at the parking area, the Quincy and the Gang gave us a preview of the ride out.

All pillions, with Bunny_Hui calling out “Pillions follow me!” were to walk down the hill.

“Very steep hill.”

“One bike at a time.”

“If possible first gear all the way.”

“Scooters if cannot make it, I can’t help you!”

These were some of the terse instructions given as a prelude of what was to come.

http://www.singaporebikes.com/gallery/data/530/medium/SBFCHR10_1256.JPG

http://www.singaporebikes.com/gallery/data/530/medium/SBFCHR10_12871.jpg

These pictures don’t quite capture the true perspective for that slope was really steep. Upon reaching the top, the bikers then had to “tip-toe” down the other side of the hill which was equally daunting. Awesome ride! Beats the roller coaster thrills at the theme parks any day.

The rest of later half of the day was declared free and easy.

http://www.singaporebikes.com/gallery/data/530/medium/SBFCHR10_1294.JPG

Mechanics at work trouble-shooting one of the participants bikes.

http://www.singaporebikes.com/gallery/data/530/medium/SBFCHR10_1302.JPG

Two other bikes with wiring and battery/charging issues were also taken care of by the experienced trip leaders.

Dinner OTOT.

Day 4

If the past three days had seemed like Sillyporean army life, today might have felt like being in the US Marines or other elite squads. 7.15am departure!

Breakfast & fuel top up and all are ready to for the long haul back to Singapore.

Thank you, thank you!

:btw: It’s the great trip that matters, without which there would be no write up...

Actually it’s not quite finished as I was busy with work. Day 4 is now rather brief and I had originally intended to write about the “adventures” on the way back. Or maybe we should just leave it the way it is. Leave some details out to keep people in suspense

That should work to pull in, for the next trip anyway, those who wanted to go but was sitting on the fence.

Great write up Ramsnake! reading it makes me miss Cameron again... haha

When is the next one, bro? East-West or the other way via Karak, comes to mind :thumb::angel:

Next time i shall start with "Sedia" & end with "Keluar Baris":lol::lol:

Then we’ll have to bring along a bugle to sound the call! Or maybe we could just use someone’s Leo Vince trumpet... :cheeky:
