Sigh a bit sad today while riding long in the rain in the evening from tuas to jurong. Had high hopes on my TCX Jupiter 2 to withstand the rain, but when reach home, socks were wet...sad sad sad..just got it 2 weeks ago....anybody any inputs??

I see that Jupiter is an ankle-length boot. Could it be that your raincoat pants are too short and water is seeping in from the top (i.e. along your shin/calf and down into the boot)? Even the best waterproof boot can't do anything about that.

I would recommend going for a higher cut boot (like TCX X-Five / Matrix) so that your pants will go over the boot, water flows down that way without seeping into your boots. That's my $0.02, but of course that still leaves you to figure out what to do with your Jupiter boots....

If everything seems under control, you're simply not going fast enough. - Mario Andretti

rode for the 1st time in heavy downpour to town ytd for abt 45mins... my Forma Fly Evo did alright. totally dry and kept it warm as well. another good thing is that they are nt so warm to where on hot days, as well as nt so uncomfortable to walk around in..

A ride a day, keeps the doctor away!

Hi mate..thanks for the input...after some thoughts i'm thinking(and hoping) that it was because my pants were just hovering over the boot so that might be the culprit..will try tomorrow by spraying water just at the base and see what happens....btw does too much Leather proofing damage the leather?

how old is your boots?

both leather and gortex boots are waterproof...

but you need to take care of it to keep it that way...

the only part water will seep in is from the top...

so if your rain pants edge is higher than that part then water will seep in...

water seems to be getting in from the laces..already pull till very tight but socks will still be wet after riding in the rain

I got quoted $260 after discount for the TCX X5plus (new model). Any one got it at 250?

Try checking on eBay and see what's the price la. I did that before I got my Jupiter. price was almost the same.

Try Chong Aik at Desker Rd... The older Sigma boots are going for dirt cheap prices. Some gg for $85 a pair but I got one for $100. Waterproof high boots. Decent enough for touring and daily use. Very comfortable too!

I got my TCX Jupiter from Chiap lee few months back. Last week it just saved my ankle!!i lorry just came out of nowhere and I ended up hitting him sideways. Left leg obviously sandwiched between the lorry and my bike. If not for the boots doctor said I'm In a cast instead of a bandage

now. Use to think that 200 for a boot is expensive, after last Thursday, I'm saying otherwise.

Glad to hear you're safe and sound (ish) and that your gear saved you from worse injuries. Thanks for the testimonial, we need more riders to feedback, this is the kind of input that hopefully will convince people to ride ATGATT !

Funny how just few days before the crash i thought to myself do i really need to wear riding boots to work considering im wearing safety boots at work...guess i got my answer now..went back for my second massage today and the chinese practitioner had a better feel on the ankle since the swelling has subsided and he says there were some minor damage on one of the tendons(i guess its tendon since he said it in mandarin so i cant tell what is what exactly), so i asked him again what if there were no boots, he just shook his head, having seen another rider come into his clinic with not so much luck as me..

I couldn't agree more. For a long time I also ask myself do I really have to wear boots, jacket and gloves everyday. Although I never had to 'test' the gear I'm wearing, hearing ur story only attest that what I'm doing is right.

When I was in Australia, everybody wears proper footwear (minimally covered shoes) and a riding jacket. Not only cos it's the law that all riders need to don proper riding apparel but also it's already in the mindset of most riders. Here in Sillypore u'll see riders in slippers and shorts. Perhaps it's the weather and the humility that makes wearing jackets (even those mesh ones) so uncomfortable.

Yeah well, I think the weather is just an excuse for those not really understanding the dangers of riding a motorcycle. Once you get it, once you educate yourself on what can happen - and without going into improbable scenarios but simple skids, loose of balance, sand or oil patch on the road, touched by another vehicle or bike - you can't possibly say you don't gear up because it's too hot..

And the irony is that when you actually start wearing that mesh jacket, that full face helmet and those gloves and boots, you soon realise that... you don't sweat more! Even with sandals and a t-shirt, you'll feel the heat at a traffic light stop. Adding the jacket actually protects your skin from the sun and you're not standing still long enough to start sweating buckets. You're constantly on the move. Not to mention no one rides more than 40min in SG, it's so small even with traffic our rides are short.

Slippers n berms is a NO NO... Ever saw a chio bu riding sp wearing shorts aka hot pants n slippers... Rode behind her to enjoy e view lolz... Then at traffic light ahead stopped beside her n looked at her.. Sensing that im looking at her, she looked at me back, then i told her, "Miss, its gonna b such a waste if ur beatiful n sexy legs gonna scraped against e tarmac"... Fella looked blank (think of a dumb blonde) then i've to b blunt oreidi n tell her off, only then she understand n said sorry.. Lolz.. Say sorry to me for wat sia.. Lolz...

To me Sg weather r too humid for me to wear jacket.. Scared i kena dehydrated n suddenly faint at traffic light lolz ...

Actually the footwear thing, some riding boots, like the one i've got, doesn't really look bulky, looks decently like a normal walking shoe apart from its ankle height. So it's quite comfortable to wear, one guys up the thread says he wears it at office everyday!. The only thing is the jacket, if it's an armoured jacket its hard to walk around in it at malls and places, so i just wear a normal fleece jacket over..better than nothing..unless there's other recommendations....

Some ankle boots can be quite coveted and can be doubled as office shoes. But it also compromise shin protection and of course when it rains, water will still sip in. That's why I put a pair of business shoes in my office and change when I get in. Only on Fridays which is office dress-down day I'll wear the boots whole day.

I usually wear my komine mesh to work although someways I'll change to my Astar mesh. The komine doesn't have front chest protector and the material is thinner hence its more comfortable. Luckily for me I have topcase and will keep the jacket in it. Sometimes I'll even just left it on my bike but secure it with a bicycle chain lock through the sleeves to my bike.

It might be quite troublesome but safety comes first.

Bro your jackets do they have padding? cos my Komine one had elbow shoulder and back protector so as you'd expect it's difficult to fold...

Yes.... No point wearing a jacket without paddings unless it's thicker leather since its protection we are talking about.

I usually fold both sleeves forward then half the jacket at mid chest then put into my 45L topcase. I can even squeeze my openface OGK together.

Guys need ur recommendations...which of these would u recommend... Alpinestar ridge,sm-x 2 or tech 2... Basically need for daily and occasinal ride ups...

I'm using the A* ridge for close to a year . Would say it's really bang for buck. It's not meant for REALLY HEAVY downpour but it will keep you dry from the normal stuff. No troublesome laces to fiddle with.

Not too tall, Can walk around with it but not advisable. No vents but I dont feel hot even in the midday sun. Never owned any other boots so cant comment on how good it is compared to others but for 150+ I'd say it is value.

Got a pair of Alpinestar Ridge and Shibuya Waterproof. Both keep the socks dry. Ridge is higher, so in the even your pants isn't long enough, it's still fine.

Shibuya looks better imho, more street wear look, but the surface still absorb water, unless ridge where the water will jus stay on the outside completely.

Comfort wise, Shibuya better than ridge. Shibuya is softer, whereas ridge is stiffer and more bulky.

I initially bought a Forma Nero highcut boots. Love the design and comfort while walking as the top front area doesn't rub my shin (& kill my leg hair). But it's kinda tight and had to sell away. Went back Regina but don't have larger size. Was considering the midcut Astar Ridge but worried with the midcut means rain might sip in if my pants ain't long enough or move upwards whilst riding. And I must say the Ridge is very comfortable as well.

End up went to Chong Aik and saw some Sigma on sale. Got a highcut which I don't even know the model for $100. Dirt cheap and it withstood some really heavy rain that I went thru. On days that it's drizzling and water being kicked up by the front tyre (even with the front fender extender), the highcut means my pants stays dry if I tuck them into the boots.

Tech 2 is a semi offroad midcut boots. And I won't say it's suitable for daily wear. I walked funny when I wore them to work one Friday. Protection wise its much better than most leather boots as its ankle area are very stiff. But that's also why it's not comfy and cause the rider walk awkwardly. And the toe is also hard plastic material and I had a hard time getting used to it and couldn't feel the gear lever. End up sold it to a nice chap riding a MT-01.

SMX? That's more for going trailing than daily wear.

Now if daily wear and ride up north u are talking about. U need a pair of touring boots. Ridge is one u can consider if u prefer Astar. Go Regina and try all the cuttings. There's also some Puma riding boots which are really quite soft but I don't like the extravagant design. Forma also have plenty of designs which are quite nice.
