guys got a question to ask , on the voltmeter reading , what should be the most standard normal reading ? cause after changing battery and coil , without headlight on , my idling will be 14.5-14.7 , with headlight on is 14.0-14.2 . and just now , it drop suddenly to 12+ , and when i switch off and on my engine again , it shoot all to 17 but when i throttle and move , it goes back to 14+ . any ideas what is going on ?

normal reading should be around 13-14+ while idling. ur bike is charging already even when its idling so voltage shouldnt go up when u throttle.\

use a multimeter to check is the best. i nv trust voltmeter

Hmmz, in my case i diy the positive to the ignition fuse and the negative wire to the frame or the battery negative screw..the reading when i on the bike will be at 12+, when i start the bike to idle will be at 13+ to 14+ volt..when riding it will be at 15+ volt....One of the most important thing i was taught is when u on the bike just make sure the volt is not ard 10+...tts one of the sign of weak or almost faulty batt or rect or coil i think..if its at 9+ get ready to push start...i learn that the hard way at NSH...:sian:

u can also put the positive wire of the volt meter on the batt...hope it helps..:thumb:

don't think it's right if you connect it to battery; because the voltmeter will still be ON even if you switch the ignition off. (like IU unit, current still flows as long as the +ive & -ive is in contact)

thanks for all the advice ! judging by the wiring, i assume my voltmeter is attach to the headlight .

Based on the top report, high chances is the mechanic that install the voltmeter on your bike tapped it on the headlight, which is why the voltmeter reading is not consistent. The correct way is to tap it on the ignition wire (if i'm not mistaken, its the brown one). I even soldered it; very accurate & can't go wrong. :thumb:

thanks for the advice ! will go and redo it the wiring again ! btw guys, there are 2 kinds of battery right ? one is the battery water type the other is gel type. what difference are there as the prices are 50% diff from each other.
