Yo bros of R1 family !!! I'm riding a 03R1 and I've just switched

my engine oil from Silkolene PRO 4 PLUS to Maxima Ultra...I feel

that Maxima Ultra is not as good as PRO 4 PLUS , it's most obvious

especially when the bike is LO in temperature. The start is much more

"irrectic & knocking" when I switched to Maxima ULTRA , compared to

PRO 4 PLUS ... at any range of temperature the PRO 4 PLUS performs

better...

 

Can those who have used these 2 engine oil give comments ? So that

we will know which EO is the best for R1 !!!!

Chain tensioner not so soon lah I guess. The clutch basket is a normal operating noise, not an issue.

 

Yours is still new, imagine mine 00 model.. Tons of noise. I have such a loud noise like engine knocking kind of sound at 3500 rpm. Went to 2 shops cannot solve. Damm sian dunno what's wrong.

Did you check to see if both has got the same viscosity? Normally a thinner will be sound noisier but it should make the engine lighter and rev better.

i remember doing something similiar for my cbr400

the sound went away for awhile... and eventually came back

forgot wat was the name...

Pro 4 plus 10w-40 , maxima Ultra 5W-50

 

Maxima Ultra I'm using is thicker and has lower temp start characteristic ,

pro 4 plus is thinner but higher temp start...I think it's not true as Pro 4 plus

is performing better in all rev range and is quieter...

 

The mechanic of Race Werks told me that Silkolene is lousy,

saying that the oil will not stay on the mechanism...I think it

should be the other way round , engine knock like crazy when

using maxima ultra during LO - 50 degrees start...pro 4 plus

minimum knocks..

 

I think I'll switch back to Silkolene Pro 4 Plus ...

 

Indeed R1 clutch basket is really noisy...Ka ka ka ka...clutch in

and it's gone...release clutch(N gear) ka ka ka ka ka again....

As for the ticking sound , I have changed before my cam chain tensioner,

cam chain and valve shim...Still it ticks like crazy...

 

 

I'm looking for Y.E.C. clutch spring ... anyone selling or know how/where

to get it ??

Used 750 like the 04/05 model are hard to find in the market. currently now the 01/02 are dirt cheap in many bike shops.

 

Differ ppl give differ views and aspects of the newer and older 750, previously with a k1 750 now changed to k6 750, i can say the weight delivery is fantastic on the k6, but power wise the older 750 got a bit more burst than the newer breed. But look wise, damn you got to go for the k6 750 man!

 

As for the R6 06 that you are looking for, i believe you cna try bukit merah area or defu lane area. They shld have the color you want...

1stly, good to see this thread suddenly so active... keep it going guyz!

 

Well, as for the noise... I went to my mechanic to clarify abt the sound thingy. He mentioned that the clutch basket is pretty normal. But after clutching in, the sound is still there. Thus, he suspects my timing chain might be loose. He claims that it's pretty normal for R1's timing chain to be loose if u always whack ur bike. He had a customer whom mileage was ard 5K & had this same issue.

 

Currently, what he suggested me was to change engine oil & see how it goes. Coz currently I'm using Maxima Ultra. If the sound still persists, then he suggested that when I reach ard 30K mileage, I cld tighten the timing chain.

 

On the other hand, he also mentioned that I could go directly to Hong Leong & tell 'em that I'm having this sound issue. To see if they should be able to do it for me for free. As my bike is still covered by warranty.

 

Anyways, last nite I bought Maxima Extra & Yamaha Genuine Oil Filter frm Race Werks. I'm gonna change it on my own later. Hopefully the sound isn't so obvious aft the oil change.

 

Will keep u guyz informed aft my oil change!
