I recommend Elixir because unlike other monitoring apps the icons are tiny and you can make your homescreen more tidy and efficient with a lot of subsystem controls in one little corner.

I have tried a lot and got sick of gigantic icons as they give a primary school feeling. Rather have a aircraft cockpit :-)

It's free too.

--- If anyone else is having lag or battery consumption issues with their SGT give me a PM and I'll host a Tab tuning session. Just like for bikes lol.

Ok, we can start galaxy tab kopitiam engineering liao.

Btw, 10.1 inch Tab is now available in Australia!

There are two versions, 10.1 and 10.1v. The v is a "lite" model with Wifi only, no SD card slot, etc. I will look around M1 and courts later see if they got any news on 10.1 availability.

I use the Samsung charging/USB cable supplied with the box. USB charging takes like 12 hours and the device may not charge at all if the processor is not clocked down or device sleeping. As far as I'm concerned the standard cable is free, more compact, and already gives USB2.0 speeds so I won't buy an accessory that serves the same purpose.

I will purchase an external battery instead :) Popular is selling them in two sizes, 2000mah and 6000 (!!!!!) mah. The 6000 is more powerful than the Tab's standard battery and about 10 different connectors are supplied. Can rescue people with downed phones :) Actually, 6000 miliamps is larger than many laptops...

what brand is this 6000mAh batt?

im using the sanyo 5000mAh one but, can barely provide a 75% charge.

Wait for me to get the Big Tab first :3 Then you can finance part of it lol.

Your tab has hardware issue? Battery damaged?

Spent some time optimising my Small Tab some more over the weekend.

I installed an optimisation app to look at startup and memory optimisation, and refined the Elixir homescreen so it's not too cluttered. Dividing the "subfolders" into function allows me to optimise battery life even more as each individual area has their own refresh rate.

Upper left = radios control (wifi/3G data)

Lower left = "driving" apps

Lower right = Comms panel

Everything else that I rarely use can be accessed via AutoAppOrganizer which nicely categorises everything by function.

my colleagues have been playing with my tab at every free moment, now they want their own.

The battery thing is JuicePlotter, which is a part of a battery saving app I uninstalled. You should be able to get it individually from the Market.

It keeps a log of your battery charge and usage, pretty nifty.

Lol it is pretty much new. However instead of helping finance my Big Tab maybe you want to take a look at Funan - one of the shops there are selling small tabs for pretty low prices. Be warned, some are the wifi only variety with slower processor. Be sure you get the 3G / phone one.

I am considering a p1000,.... a few questions hope other tab users can share. How is it as a phone replacement? Can it be a tether? for my lap top?

Very temped, just not sure due to slightly large size..... could be a bit funny if i bring that to my head to answer a phone. hahahah...

toss up between Galaxy S and Tab.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

I think the small and big devices both have their own target markets and are not meant to compete with each other.

As a very versatile tablet with a secondary phone function the tab makes a great netbook replacer due to the excellent wireless and 3g speed. It can do tethering provided you can configure the software properly. It's quite a geeky device requiring a fair bit of manual config to get it right but in my opinion it's worth it.

The smaller Galaxy phone is however more practical if you intend to spend a lot of time in phone calls, you know, like a normal smartphone :-)

There are better tablet and phone hybrids coming out late this or next year but even then the small galaxy tab is a very good product by itself. Might not be as polished as some other more expensive rivals but its really cheap and highly customisable.

anybody knows if/when galaxy tab 10" launching locally?

i want 10" screen, wi-fi and 3.5g, and flash-capable. that rules out ipad and original galaxy tab, and most others on the market. the tab 10 is what i want, but no news.

It will be released in July according to this news post in VR Zone.

A thousand bucks for a 3G capable 10.1 tablet. Methinks there will be more powerful and cheaper tabs in the market if we wait until 2012. ASUS in particular is coming out with a smartphone/tab combination that may prove revolutionary, just like their Eee transformer tablet/netbook.

Can get some similar or lower priced from some street vendors.. if you don't mind used hardware and seriously, I think Funan is a better bet at that price. I think the wifi only model was selling at 460+ and add a hundred more for the 3G one. The shop is at level 2 or 3.

Unless HWZ is also dealing in firsthand goods (not used) and then there's little distinction between the vendors.

Anyone tried using aftermarket usb charging cable? One of my friend claimed they took about 3x longer to charge. I recognize that they're longer but that alone is unlikely to cause so much difference.

The aftermarket cable claims to be able to charge from PC USB ports but this is likely to be MUCH slower than using the Samsung supplied wall plug for this reason:

PC USB port amperage is very small. 100-500 mah I think. Yes some aftermarket ones have a capacitor for faster USB charging... but there is only so far you can boost the minimal current coming out of the USB port, which is designed to power auxiliary devices not charge huge batteries.

Therefore I say, don't bother with the aftermarket charging cables. Rather get external battery for those long road trips. Or a car adapter / USB charger.

Can solve your issues easily. Report in for kopitiam engineering session (galaxy tab version) lol.

Easier DIY explanation - you have a lot of background apps eating up CPU time constantly. That needs a bit of diagnostic tool usage, about two cups of kopi o and viola, super fast tab.

Galaxy Tab's 3G (HSPDA) connection is super fast at 6 mbps.
