For me, its on the 'dashboard' behind the windscreen... some mount it inside the front storage compartment...

Robotech, You are a very helpful guy, you bother to answer every question people here throw at you...

Edited by ReBornBikeR

It doesn't make any difference whether a motorcyclist has the right-of-way or not, the rider is the one most likely to get hurt.

Thank you for your kind appraisal ReBornBikeR, a forum is used to share knowledge on common interests, since this thread is about the Can Am Spyder and I am fortunate enough to be riding one, just wanted to help fellow owners or would be owners.... similarly, anyone asking about the DN-01, I would be glad to help also, but the number of DN-01 owners is even less than the Spyder!.... Thanks MR BIKER.... I suppose you are not the one that bought the DN-01 that is on sale at the bikemart?... keep looking then, thinking back, and since the COE is 6K+, the price BS is asking for the DN-01 doesn't seem so unreasonable.... as for my Spyder, my latest modification is installing air-conditioning for the rider... works as I expected too... great for those times that I got stuck in a traffic jam or a long red light ....

1. Can you share more about the air-con?

2. How much is the insurance for Spyder? What's the range to expect without NCD? (haven't rode for donkey yearss)

3. Is the maintenance expensive? How's the fuel consumption?

4. I am thinking between a Harley vs Spyder... whats your view?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks in advance!

1. To be more specific, it is actually more of a air cooler. I have installed a powerful fan inside my RT's glove compartment which is where a conventional bike fuel tank is. By opening the compartment lid, it automatically switches on the fan and also directs the air blast towards the rider. If you want cooler air, an ice pack can be placed at the inlet side of the fan so that the latter draws cool air from the former's surrounding. I seldom use the ice pack, just the air blast is enough. Also, installation is only possible if there is space as mentioned above.

2. When I first bought my RT, the insurance is about $1300 (No NCD). Now, it is about $900. Depending on which insurance you get, it can go as high as $2000+.

3. Oil and filter (2 filters) change will cost $250 from authorized workshop. Fuel consumption range from a high of 13.5 km/l to a low of 10 km/l. This are the readings I got after the recall which involves software updates. When I first got my RT I got a super low of about 7 to 8 km/l. Yes, that low!

4. Totally depends on your preferred riding style. For the Spyder, no more leaning for turns and corners, no more white lining (going between cars), might have some problem finding suitable parking. The plus points are, very safe, still remain upright during panic stops, no need to watch out for sands, oil patch during corners. Other points can be good or bad depending on how you look at it. Harley and Spyder are two different machines catering to two different riding groups. For me, I will not trade my Spyder for a Harley, or any other bike for that matter. One last point to note, make sure you know what you are getting if you decide on a Spyder, it is not suitable for everyone. I always give this advice.

Cheers,

Ram Racing is the authorized workshop for Spyders in Singapore. Ah Yong is formerly from Ram. But sorry, I do not know where he started his shop.

Hi RoboTech,

I am considering to get the Spyder F3S. However I need to check a few things from you or other Spyder owner before making the big decision.

1. Do you have any problem buying season parking for Spyder from HDB take up around 2 lots. Cos I got friends who tell me HDB will force you to buy a car season due to its size.

2. Which bike shop in Sg sells brand new Spyder. Any recommended shop so I can go see see look look with my wifey.

3. Roughly what is the OTR pricing for a F3S. TBA

4. Roughly what is the interest rate now.

5. What is road tax for F3. TBA

6. Any problem getting routine servicing for Spyder as we know Spyder is not a regular bike. Beside Ram Racing any other bike shop knows how to service this bike cos I stay in the West.

7. Any common problems so far for Spyder beside the engine heat.

All Spyder owner please gave me your generous advice. Thank you.

Hi zmonster,

1. Do NOT believe all those who said that HDB will force you to get a car season parking. This is totally untrue. When you get season parking, just tell the counter staff your bike is a Can Am Spyder and they will know what to do. I know because I am staying in HDB flat, parked mine in MSCP. You will need to pay for two motorcycle lots.

2. The official shop that sells Can Am Spyders is Xtreme Machines Pte Ltd at 68 Kaki Bukit Ave 6, #01-17. But according to my knowledge, the Spyder F3 are not allowed to be registered in Singapore, so is any latter versions of my RT model. The only model that can still be registered is the RS. But do go down to the shop and enquire for yourself and hopefully LTA changes its mind.

3. I do not know the pricing for the F3S, but it will definitely be much less than when I bought my RT back in Nov 2013, which is $62,000.

4. When I bought mine, the interest is 4.5%. 30% down payment. You have to go down to the shop and ask for the latest rate.

5. The F3 uses the in-line three 1330cc engine, you can calculate the road tax from the LTA website, one.motoring. Off hand, I would say around $400+ per year.

6. Ram Racing is the authorised workshop for Spyders sold by Xtreme Machines, I do not know of any other. See my previous posts. I have no problems servicing at Ram, it all boils down to mutual trust. You give them time to service your Spyder and they will treat you and your bike well. Remember, the Spyder is not a easy bike to work on, I myself have taken it apart before several times. I stay in the West too, and do not find it a hassle to travel all the way to Kaki Bukit for service, I sometimes drop by for a chat with them too.

7. The engine heat seriously affects mainly the 2013 models, which BRP, the parent company has already issued a fix and a recall, yes, mine is affected. I am happy to report that this issue has been solved. My Spyder is now much cooler running than before and also has much better FC too. But I still keep my fans installations for additional cooling for those hot days like we are having now. Different models have differing problems, but they are minor. The RS models have the least problems because they are the basic models with not much extra options. My advice is, do not modify any of the drive train components, e.g. after market exhaust silencer, air intake box and filter, unless you are very familiar with what you are doing. The new F3 do not have any heat issues.

Finally, I hope that you have done your research well and find the Spyder to be suitable for your style of riding. Because if you decide to sell later on, you will take a sizable financial hit, unless the next buyer is also very keen. The Spyder rides totally different from a normal two wheel bike, so be mentally prepared.

Let me know if you need any more help, I will try my best to answer it to the best of my knowledge. Good Luck.

Cheers

Hi Guys,

Beside Xtreme Machines do you all know who else is selling Spyder. I went down to both the address stated in their web site at Kaki Bukit hoping to view the bike and check the price out. Unfortunately both places were closed down. I wonder is the company still in business or they have wind up shop. I check online again after a fruitless trip with my wifey and it seem to me that Xtreme Machines has another show room at 58 Duxton Road. So if there is any Spyder owner who had just brought this awesome machine can you please advise on where you got it. Thanks a million.

Sorry, zmonster, it seems that my information is not up to date. They have shifted to the new address. 68 Kaki Bukit Ave 6 #01-17. You can see there are two containers placed outside their premises. The upper one contain the Spyder RS, while the lower one should be the F3. I try to put some pictures here. The other address at Duxton hill sells Jetski.

From what you mentioned, looks like they are really closing down... afraid I do not have their contact... if you want to know more about the Can Am Spyder, you can ask about it here, I will try my best to answer it.... as for meet up, have to wait awhile.... my own Spyder is currently down due to a flat battery... have to wait next week for delivery.... just for your information... future registration for new Spyder RT models is bleak.... new RS models can still be registered but according to last info by the agent (few months back), on an indent basis.... I'm not sure whether it is still happening but maybe you can go down to Kallang KFC every Friday evening, there is a group of Spyder riders meeting there... and no, I have never join them....
