I'm still a student. Yeah, i have this 2 bikes in mind man.. But phantom and pulsar arent cheap.. :(

Phantom can be cheap if you find a good one, DIY maintain it (easy if you study engineering), go to cheap and good garages for more advanced (and cheap) repairs. You can get very good Phantoms for $600-800, get someone to sort out the usual handling and reliability problems FOC, spend a couple hundred on cosmetics, keep until COE and scrap.

A lot of people sell cheap because they think their Phantoms "have no power", "skid easily", etc etc. Turn a few screws here and there (yes I say that because I know :p) and suddenly you have a perfectly fine bike that gives you 350+km per 10 litre tank. Which is decent considering how old it is. Bike never complains when trashed, used for dispatch, modified for more power etc. Newer commuter bikes may give more economy but in a drag race, some lose to the ah pek bike... (how!?)

Admittedly, 1.5k isn't much of a budget to get a motorcycle powerful and safe enough for daily commuting. Cubs are way overpriced, old cubs give problems, modified cubs that are old and cheap are really bad safety wise... YBR125 is starting to be a smart consumer choice. At your experience level you're probably looking at a "plug and play" solution and the things I expect of such a machine shoot up the cost dramatically to the 7k-8k range for a 21st century technology fuel injected bike.

Suggest to save up and don't take the risk on an old, old bike. Unless you like Phantoms and study engineering :D And then you can grab a $600 phantom and sell it next month for $1500 :D

Phantom for the win. I've got an FV plate to let go (after transporting me around for 5.5 years). Trying to get myself to 50 posts so that I can start a thread in the Garage session... PM me if you're interested.

Well analyzed. And given the crazy speeds those lorrys, buses and Optimus primes can go at (easily 90+ km/h), having a heavier bike will ensure stability when huge vehicles roar past you.

Do some research on cub, the FC is better.I have a few friends riding, they said that $5 give a good mileage.I forgot how much mileage though. The spare part and maintenance is cheaper too.Initally I said to them is too small because they were quite big in built. But when they are riding it, it was quite nice.Somemore, he riding from amk to changi for work everday.

Semi-auto? Wave? Hehe.. as long as u don't get a gilera.. you will do fine! Gillies really suck in maintenance costs and not too friendly on the pocket when it comes to FC.

Agreed! I used to ride a phantom. Lotsa ppl said it was too heavy, pick up no good, FC no good... but in reality, it was good!

Only downside is the back ache if your not used to riding choppers. Heh. After a while, it will go away.

Back ache cannot compare to the pain of riding sportbikes for long distances.

Since they are never going to bring the CBR150i into Singapore I'm looking at R15 now.

Problem is it looks nice from the front, but not from the rear. Looks very "commuter", not "racer". Now if they'd graft the FZ16 backside onto the R15 front that would be awesome.

why do u think they are not cheap? not cheap in terms of? not cheap compared against? if u elaborate im sure people here will clarify with u

Something like X1? I think X1 have the most competitive prices. I've been seeing people selling at $1100, $1200 for 4-5 years COE.
