I agree with you. Sooner or later, someone sure will come out with a "fake sound" for electric bikes. As quoting from a previous issue of Motorcycle Cruiser magazine, I also don't like my bike to sound like an electric drill. I'll rather ride my bike than worry about hydrocarbons, especially when the footprint is small.

If you ask me, the "fake sound" of motorcycles for electric bikes probably be "invented" by PRCs. Their market is booming! Even their presence are felt in local instituitions. Some foreign talent.

What happen to supporting the local talents/entrepreneurs?

There haven't been much done to allow room for local talent to grow. One may have the idea, and where financial support is concerned, yes, there are platforms such as schools, SPRING Singapore, etc. But they get the names and recognition, not the particular individual with the idea. I mean, most of us are not born with a silver spoon, and are from low or middle income families. Buying a property is an issue for most of us. One's pay do not match the overall cost of a current HDB unit. Rising cost of living people say.

I feel there should be a platform for people who are fairly well off (financially) to search for potential people with potential business ideas whereby they can invest their money for a good cause and to support and help local talents grow. With no strings, no bonds attached. Freewill. Something needs to be done.

Any local entrepreneurs out there who have ideas, but held back by financial issues? Or investors out there willing to sponsor the development of an idea?

It all falls back to entrepreneurs and government working together to integrate more charging stations in Singapore; for a start, example, at Shopping malls, Leisure parks, workplaces - since electricity is practically available everywhere in Singapore.

I can only say, I have already encountered such entrepreneurs with such charging stations, devices and installations. And all its lacking is the financial backing and the gahment approvals for parking lots to be allocated and their approval for it to be install as well as promote the use of such vehicles.

Financial backing wise. I gave it a estimate of 3-5 years to see your investment returns.

The problem is that despite all the talk about reducing carbon emissions and stuff, the govt is not doing anything to promote electric vehicles. Where're the tax breaks? Where're the electric sockets at the bike lots in our carparks?

Besides that, electric vehicles are still in their infancy and are expensive. If you can find me an electric bike with the same pricetag as its gasoline equivalent, I might bite. Find me an electric maxiscooter with a range of 180km on a full charge, top speed of 140kph. And it costs just like a 400cc scooter. And the govt is giving me tax breaks on COE and road tax. Make sure the infrastructure and charging stations are there too.

I'll bite. Otherwise, no. I don't wanna spend $50000 on a scooter whose gasoline equivalent costs $12000.

I don't care for saving the earth if it burns my pocket in the process.

Read up on why they're giving up selling the Tesla Roadster in Singapore.

Bro, I am for e-bikes. But in Singapore no money no honey. I am very sure it takes tons of money to get your experiment up and that is not the end. Look at hybrid cars. They are super expensive that many people here are not buying them anymore. But strangely enough , we are supposedly saving the environment. I believe there is a conspiracy to ensure petrol price remains high until the day when no more petrol then electric will be next big thing. By the way, I am always intrigue, petrol is the main source of electric production, if petrol is gone, will solar, wind and water create enough electric.

Cause Singapore's not yet picking up on the "green concept" vehicles. Anyway, electric/hybrid cars are sooo much expensive as compared to electric bikes.

Electric being the next big thing will take eons before people realize it's too late. Better to act early before the last minute. It's like a "knee-jerk effect". Only when something happens, or a problem arises, people start to amend the system, implementations here, there, everywhere. Many events have clearly shown our human nature of being responsive at the last minute. STOMP is one good example as a feedback channel for organizations. Incidents such as hygiene at food courts, safety of construction workers, MRT gantries (to prevent people from committing suicide/or by accident).

Retail price of a new item/product in the market will probably be high, but that's the way business work. When competitors appear, prices reduce. It's similar to how monopoly work. By deregulation, we; at the consumer end profits. For an instance, had Starhub or M1 not come into the telecommunications market, we'd be likely to be paying for our incoming calls.

So, in general, what next? When the fossil fuels deplete tremendously, prices start to rise exponentially, only then people start to realize? As a saying goes, " Prevention is better than cure. " Anyway, have anyone noticed the irregular weather changes here in Singapore? It gets warmer at night, warmer in the day too. It's time we all start to support the "green-concept" in order to literally SEE our future generations survive.

And also because they're expensive compared to their petrol powered cousins, especially when you factor in performance and range. Also, electrical sockets are not widely available. Singaporeans are a pragmatic lot. Let's all be honest. We care more about convenience and cost more than the environment. My wallet is more important than my carbon footprint.

Plus, we've also been stung by the Govt. What happened to the subsidies given to CNG vehicles? They introduced the scheme and lured ppl in with lower costs and tax breaks, and today owning a CNG vehicle gives you no substantial savings.... and gives you more inconvenience as you have to go to one of three CNG stations located in weird parts of SG.

If there's a Govt subsidy program and confirmed rollout of e-vehicles infrastructure in SG, then ppl will bite. But until then, it's an uphill climb for electric vehicles.

Dude if I got money I sure support research like that. Too bad I am not loaded... :(

Well, I do hope there would be a kind fellow to donate or make an investment to such ideas. I did thought of SPRING Singapore, however, they have a weird system that the applicant have to (somehow) raise S$10,000 and SPRING Singapore will give the applicant S$40,000.

Sooooomething like that.

In Shanghai, you see many of these electric bicycles on the streets. The types that are banned in SG. They offer a good form of personal transportation for ppl ranging from students to old ladies. Cheap to run, can bring it home to charge. They're convenient and zippy around town, can run up to 40kph.

Why did SG ban these? under the pretext and pretense of safety? Or because you can't tax them?

$$ talks.

They might un-ban them, provided they can put out bids for people to bid to conduct electric bicycles training schools and licence them with numbers, summons and so on.

The Bicycle Rules mayhaps can be bought back to life?

$50k to put up a electric bike and charging system? Its a waste of resources, just make use of the china electric bicycles, bring the portable batteries home to charge, whats so difficult about that? Our elites are cock.

If sucking money from citizens is the only way this govt know how to make money, this country is doomed.

Nono. S$50k is a possible grant from SPRING Singapore to be given to potential entrepreneurs to finance their ideas/projects.

That is why I have an idea to build an electric motorcycle which charges itself while being ridden (i.e. full charge of batteries). Hence, needless to say, there wont be any need for building charging stations, or to remove the batteries to charge them at home.

Eh. Not bad. Not that difficult to raise up $10k and gets $40k what. ...

How do u suggest I raise S$10k?
