wat to look for when gettin a 2nd hand...

i just met an uncle who bought a 2nd hand silverwing. when he was looking for one, his friends told him as long as the silverwing is below 2 years old, price is right, dun care, just buy.

this is wat i feel abt silverwings also. a never say die bike. i've seen a 4 year old one, go with me touring, after abt 700km of high speed riding, no engine oil lost. good bike.

can we really save by pumping petrol at Johore?

my estimations using 2nd link as example:

tank capacity = 16L

assume cut-off point at reserve = 3.5L

ExxonMobil Syn 8000 = S$1.872/L (after 10% discount from S$2.08/L)

top up full tank cost in SG = 12.5L x S$1.872 = S$23.40

SW400 fuel consumption = 22Km/L

travel from home to GP Shell (2nd link) = 45Km = 2.1L = S$3.93

petrol pumped = 16 - 3.5 + 2.1 = 14.6L

Shell V-Power = RM2.15/L

exchange rate = S$1:RM2.27

cost of top-up to full tank = 14.6L x RM2.15 = RM31.39 = S$13.83

travel from GP Shell (2nd link) to home = 30Km = 1.4L = RM3.01 = S$1.33

cost of tolls to/fro = (2 x RM1.60) + (2 x S$0.70) = S$2.81

total cost to pump GP Shell (2nd link) = S$3.93 + S$13.83 + S$1.33 + S$2.81 = S$21.90

savings = S$23.40 - S$21.90 = S$1.50

petrol left on return = 16L - 1.4L = 14.6L

assume compare full tank to full tank:

additional top up of 1.4L to full tank = 1.4 x S$1.872 = S$2.62

cost to full tank = S$21.90 + S$2.62 = S$24.52

savings?

hehe... its just another way of looking at things

Go in via causeway if you wanna save $..

my estimations using causeway as example... but i hate the jam and smoke:

tank capacity = 16L

assume cut-off point at reserve = 3.5L

ExxonMobil Syn 8000 = S$1.908/L (after 10% discount from S$2.12/L)

top up full tank cost in SG = 12.5L x S$1.908 = S$23.85

SW400 fuel consumption = 22Km/L

travel from home to JB Shell (via causeway) = 20Km = 0.9L = S$1.72

petrol pumped = 16 - 3.5 + 0.9 = 13.4L

Shell V-Power = RM2.15/L

exchange rate = S$1:RM2.27

cost of top-up to full tank = 13.4L x RM2.15 = RM28.81 = S$12.69

travel from JB Shell (causeway) to home = 18Km = 0.82L = RM1.76 = S$0.78

cost of tolls to/fro = NIL

total cost to pump JB Shell = S$1.72 + S$12.69 + S$0.78 = S$15.19

savings = S$23.85 - S$15.19 = S$8.66

petrol left on return = 16L - 0.82L = 15.18L

cost to full tank = S$15.19 + S$1.56 = S$16.75

but your calculation abit chim lah

this calculation is actually a simplified version as cost factors such as time, bike wear-n-tear, etc. not considered. underlying idea is... how much it cost to top up till full tank in SG and in Johor:

(a) in SG... only top up cost as gas station is across the street to my block

(b) in Johore... need to add traveling costs and toll charge to top up cost
