You mentioned you're still getting used to your bike. What use is the refresher course? Therefore I presume it has nothing to do with your technique. You probably just gotta spend more time on your current ride.

And if you think you're a hazard on the road, then please review what you're doing wrong and make sure you don't repeat your mistakes. Everyone make mistakes.

If you're talking about the half day defensive riding course, I think it's BS. The only reason why anyone would go for the course is for the sake of having that permit to ride into camp.

I'm simply advising M|rac|e to spend more time riding on her current ride. Is there anything wrong with that? Going for a refresher course will do no good to letting her familarise with her own ride. Unless she's riding a similar model to the centre's.

Regarding the defensive riding course, SparkerS1 said the DRC was "quite useful, teaches me how to be a safer rider". I simply disagreed, that is my own opinion. If anyone believes it's useful, then good for them. I do not have to agree, do I? If you find it offensive when I give my own opinion to the course, then should I feel offended when SparkerS1 posted his own opinion?

If you thought I was rude in my replies, then I really have to apologise. Perhaps my english is so lousy that no one can understand me. I will work hard to improve my english so that people will no longer misunderstand my replies.

I have problems making turns...I realise that I always do pretty wide angled turn thus taking up more than half of the lane. Why does that happen?

I also have problems at the figure 8...I always wobble when exiting. Am I supposed to slow down when exiting?

Plank - I can go through the plank perfectly when I'm all alone but whenever there's an instructor there timing me or just standing in front of me I'll fall off the plank...

Easy to spot me meh? i'm always wearing a full face and the only time to spot me is when i'm coming to work or leaving work. Anyway my 999 is in the workshop. Using the Ducati Monster now.

1) You could be riding to fast which makes the bike turn wider.

You may have to try leaning or apply a bit more banking on the right.

And u may also have to try turning the handle more a little more to the right side. If u feel like the bike is going wide, maintain some brake pressure to slow it down.

2) Hmmm.. u can close throttle at the exit of the fig 8(at the dotted yellow line). Accelarating or maintain throttle while attempting to corner will feel uneasy. Close throttle when the bike starts to bank. Then Maintain throttle and speed while cornering is better. Tap the rear if u're going to fast.

If i happen to be with u at the Fig 8, i can try to show u how.

Fig 8 also depends on ur fast and gentle movement of ur wrist.

3) Everyone will feel some 'pressure' in that situation. Relax and try to overcome it. When abt to go up the plank Don't think of "Don't drop, Don't drop.." but instead, think of "Clear the plank" :thumb: NExt time it wont be instructors there anymore. It will be teh Testers.

I had the same problem back in Japan, 2006 Instuctors competition. I can do the narrow plank normally around 30sec-35sec. But during competition, i was pressured too and could only do 21secs. Important thing is to clear and not get any I.F.

I thought so.. cuz when i first rode on SSDC bike.. i also have a lot of problems.. once i got used to it.. i dun blame the bike anymore (u knw la, ppl always blame others before they point to themselves, serveral scoldings then i realize its my fault) but try to accomodate to the bike.. as i was told then, during TP we have no choice of bike so be it the clutch is near or far, brake is good or bad. Have to learn to get use to it...

till date i drop my bike abt 4 times, fishtail once, skidded twice..

Luckily most of time not really serious..

if u've been reading this thread long long, u will know what that is the way he talks.. :cheeky: he dun mean any harm.. thats y previously when he said "does it matter" i just replied "was it an offence" just to horse around.. dun mean any harm either..

Though i dun think i see him in real life before cuz he is like so many miles away.. i think he will sound better in real! ahaha.. words can be misunderstanding..

Erm...will try to bear that in mind. That is if my mind don't go blank when I ride.

No idea why but whenever I ride, my mind goes blank...

i have those problems too..

When i used to do wide angle.. Instructor will tell me to bend the handlebar more.. but beware.. have to guage urself.. too much or too little is no good. U have to slowly practise n try out hw much bend u need.

For me at fig 8 i very naughty nvr listen.. now jia lat lor.. just my fig 8 i nvr do the correct way of opening n closing throttle.. i maintained all the way inside.. i do it the slow in fast out.. haha.. slowly turn in, then i throttle n maintained near exit i open. dangerous n wrong way.. dun follow!

then again.. practise make perfect...

I guess very much still @ the clutch and throttle technique......

maintain throttle bit..... clutch at biting point ... engage and disengage....

1st gear pick up....change 2nd gear.. .go into 8 & crank. Look at direction of turn....... then coming out of the 8 & crank.... foot brake and back to gear 1....

WALA... there u have it...

maybe refresher for me again. . hurhurhur

Yup.. Eye point is important. not only for u-turn but for a lot of things.

When u know how to do u-turn, u'll find it more fun. Expecially when u know how to do it and ur frens cant.. haha.. just a joke.
