Bro,

I fully agree with you! Saw so many copy here copy there, or worst, ask others to do for them! I was wondering if they learned anything from the course... And if they are registered, no eye see...

Not targeting anyone of course, just my broad 2 cents view.

The problem with most.....copy copy means cut and paste everything. Sometimes I took other assignments as reference too. But I will read, digest, verify, decide, rephrase, rewrite, improve. In the process, you learn and do better.

hahaha, as for the "be somebody".....i also want!

With the new WSQ.....this we really could not control. We could only hope the person who took the course, took pride in his learning and profession to complete the assignments himself.

If he does, it should be quite evident from the quality of work he do.

Some sharing:

Last week I had this interviewee trying out a safety executive position at my side, young chap 25yrs old. Almost 0 experience in safety but pretty well verse in terms of safety and quoted a few case studies which he came by. I also asked him on some WSH Alert articles for sharing and ask about his views. Though he was a bit inexperienced but gave a few pretty good view in the cases. Then I asked him to do an actual risk assessment on the white board, with the type of work activities listed out. Pretty well done.

For the 2nd interview, I requested him to bring along his copy of SDWSH assignments and ask him questions and some of his views for the work he had done and answers written in the assignment. Its not hard to tell that he really took the effort to do the assignment himself. A rare interviewee which in my view pretty good for starters.

Will be calling him personally next year to join my company.

I recommend companies to step up on the quality of their interview process to really source for the right person for the job. Spend some time to go through the candidate, minus the skepticism and give the interviewee a chance to sell themselves. There can be pretty good candidate from the SDWSH too.

Halo All,

I'm contemplating to enroll for Nebosh International Diploma in safety and health via e-learning. The 2 main providers are RRC and Sheilds, the latter is cheaper, anyone have any experiences with them ? Thanks !

Hi,

Correct me if i m wrong. Is RRC is being conducted by NTUC? From my experience the lecturer cant teach for nuts and the knowledge they posses are very little.

Why not go to PSB for the Diploma in NEBOSH.

Just a suggestion.

Cheers

Er......you waiting for WSHO registration then you look for job as SC. If I'm employer, I sure know you will leave the moment you get the registration one mah. Who will employ you?

Wait for your registration, if get, be a WSHO. If cannot get then dun tell them you tried for registration, work as a SS. Not sure you can get SC or not.

If you in need of money, during your SS/SC interview don't let them know you got the degree or waiting to be registered. Coz if I'm employer, I won't take the risk of employing you. Sure will leave after registration. Furthermore you got 2 yrs experience in safety, quite high chance to get.

My advice for ppl attending the course. Learn as much as you can, make as many friends as possible, get as many contacts as possible and do the assignment yourself if possible or at least meet up with your course mate to discuss. Filter out some BS from the lecturer especially those that trumpet until the cow can fly ones.

Then you should probably be fine after the course. :)

Be careful of lecturer who intend to intro you job esp those that are consultant themselves. My advice, if the deal seems too good to be true it might actually be not as good as it seems.

Thank you Tanker79 for your much enlightened advice. Really appreciate it and will learn as much as possible. Hope to learn and also to enjoy my time during the course.

FMC, I am one of those few who do not have MSN account. By the way which of the 2 polys are you taking the course from or is it from BCA where there is no electives other than construction.

Bro Welly,

The world we live in is not practicle most of the time. The client and main-con will always demand 100% safety which at times are not practicable given the constraints at site. We were taught to be, like wat you say, be reasonably preacticable. So demands coming from safety personnels demanding 100% safe while working ... really pissed me off. It goes to show the quality of safety personnel being churned out.

Anyway it's nice to know a reasonably practicable guy like you.

Bro FMC, I just started the course and far from finishing.:cheeky:

shchan, Best of luck,brudder...remember: be reasonably practicable.

Hi All,

I think to be 100% Safe in a site is practicable but not reasonable. I can be done, but the amount of time effort and $ spend to ensure 100% Safe in all works may be unreasonable.

e.g No amount of engineering work can prevent flood in spore - this statement is wrong. It's practicable, it can be done, engineers would not agree with this statement. Just that it might not be very reasonable to do it, e.g build gigantic underground drains, idling most of the time etc. Cheers.
