You should just listen to your parents and not ride. Respect them. Are you going to get into an argument with them because of silly motorcycles? I think not right... Remember, parents you only got one. So just be a peach and take public transport. Safer for you and also there will be peace of mind for your parents.

Hi hi! Only son here as well!

I knew my dad and mom and everyone else I know will object me to learning bike, so I took the license, cleared it, bought my bike and just proceeded to hide from my family until the inevitable happens. I didn't really read TC's posts but the first thing in my opinion is to settle the whole financial issue of the license yourself first. You want to learn bike, you want to ride bike, you find out the cost of everything and pay it yourself. I think nothing speaks louder than demonstrating to your parents what you really want than undertaking all these responsibilities yourself, and I'm sure it will go a long way to help you in helping your family to accept that you ride. (Of course don't pay for everything and buy everything then later complain in debt or what la)

Second thing is that your parents will never support of you riding because it's just downright dangerous. When my parents found out, I had a huge lecture and grinding session and they were nearly begging me to sell my bike. I told them I would, (just to appease them a little) then just slowly delayed the selling process and over time when you start coming home safer and start demonstrating and showing to them that yes, a bike CAN help your life tremendously, I think as good parents as mine, they slowly trusted my decision and approved of it, though they would still want me to sell my bike and buy a car in a heartbeat. But let's be realistic la, early twenties in SG, unless you born in silver spoon family, how to afford car?

I know how you feel, exact same situation.

first, you gotta understand his POV. you're his only son. if he were to lose you in an accident, trust me, it will hurt him much more than it hurts you. It's natural for parents to nag, even after 10-20 years. all parents nag.

second, biking is dangerous, it is a fact. what you should do first is to brush up on safety riding, stories of other bikers, experiences.

third, demonstrate to your parents you are responsible and safety oriented. Tell them nicely, debate with them, calm your old man down. Idea is to exchange the views and let him know you are responsible (that is if you really are responsible and safety oriented)

he comes from the previous generation where bike technology is not advanced yet, now we have gear like jacket glove and full face. let him know it doesnt save you in the event of serious accident but can minimise damage.

I would rather you tell your old man you are getting it, than go behind his back. For a parent to receive news his kid is involve in accident without him knowing he was riding......thats a pain no one can understand.

now i'll tell you my story. Same like you, poisoned by bikes. parents were super against bikes, typical argument, flesh cover metal. which is true.

but i didn't care, bike was the 1st thing in my 21 years of life that i cared for truly, the only thing that sets me free. So i went ahead and got 2b without them knowing. then one fine day, i appeared back home with my FF and my father saw it.

Long story short, big argument, lots of drama, cold war etc. Eventually, he was used to it and accepted the fact that his son is a biker (which is quite surprising considering i used to be mummy's boy, do whatever i'm told.) but in between those periods, alot of stress and emotional strain.

if it's something that you really like and makes you happy, i don't believe they will stop you from doing it.

Thank you for your stories.thanks for sharing with me bro really start to see what might happen to me hahaha!

just do it!

thanks ah! but i hope you not being sarcastic!

yes! tell them that you would sell your bike just to appease them. i didnt even thought of it! learn something again! and yes coming home safer and showing responsibility. its also true that in early 20's impossible to get a car la.. aiya like that one, but hey thanks for sharing your story.

I don't need to show my bike here 'cus I don't have one.

Nowadays, its not economical to own a car, COE very high, petrol high, jams everywhere, ERP everywhere. Bikes different, you can filter, they have better mileage per liter for most 4 stroke 2Bs, jams isn't much of an issue, COE not that expensive. Ultimately its up to you.

Riding motorcycles is like joining a cult. You start to hang around riders, you start to 'talk like a rider', you start to dress like a rider, you start to plan things like a rider, everything you say or do will revolve around riding and your motorcycle. Ask any rider here. Its true.

quoted for truth. for me, i simply told my mom that i'm learning and the reasons why. didn't stop her from yelling 2 years ago, and still doesn't stop her from yelling now. mother's love is great. 2 years on, at her age, still can scream louder than any encik i know. while the yelling/nagging/scolding won't stop me from riding, it keeps me coming home because i know someone's waiting for me every night.

No leh...

I still haven't taken to putting on those stupid looking sleeveless leathers with colors, putting on so many patches that I weigh 10kg extra, and wearing bandannas to try to look cool ... :p

I still look like a normal human being. Only that I ride a bike.

You don't need to look until so extreme bro...

You start to hang around riders

No rider can deny this. I hung out with more people who ride motorbikes, talking about motorbikes etc.

you start to 'talk like a rider',

You start using technical terms like 'kappitter', 'trotter', 'spare pak', 'mehnehtik koi', 'reserve tank', 'tobbox', 'lehtiflyer' etc. (You must say these words out loud if you dont get it'.

you start to dress like a rider

I used to wear nice dress pants with formal shirt, used to be rather stylish. Now for practical motorbike reasons, i wear street soccer shoes, jeans, a jacket and i dont even bother to get my hair anymore...

you start to plan things like a rider,

When want to go somewhere, think of which route to take, the faster one or the one with erp, or the one with less traffic, better scenery, along the way got petrol station or not, or makan place etc.

everything you say or do will revolve around riding and your motorcycle.

This is true. Last time, when want to go out with friends, take bus or taxi. Then when got motor, you always think of going there yourself and dont take publick transpok. When friends ask you how you going home, you say motorbike. When you ride the damn thing everyday, you start to talk about your motorbike fun la, got this problem la, that problem la, who ioho on the road nearly killed you. The list goes on...

Support what i say not?!? :cheeky:

Luckily my dad is supportive and my

Mum too after some persuasion. I ask my dad to go for a ride with me now and then.

Advise: Know your limits, and most importantly think about your loved ones. Never do anything which You can't control on your bike!! Be safe always.

Cheers mate.

Rest in peace Justin aka dogshit2.

We had happy times, sad times and emo times together.

now you are going to a better place.

you will be deeply missed!!!

Talk to him a few hours before he was so exicted about going to beijing...and applying for visa and talking about insurance incase anything happen to him.

The first time I know him was two years agao when we were riding to betong , he was in one group and i was in another , it was raining heavily his phantom cease fire and had to stop near peraran hulu due to a wet spark plug, i had to pass him a tissue paper to dry the plug.

and somehow we meet regularly during his drinking session in woodlands 167 , he was always with afew of his drinking kakis, he had a few die hard riding friends pipi , ninja, redname and tom cruize

I recieved news this afternoon that he had passed on early in the morning , kena langar by a ******* lori....

Goodbye my friend....and we will see one another again ......

to the rest of the biker bro....ride safe ride far.....

yes i still clearly remember. i was infront of him. the others were into the custom. i rode to tell the others what happens to his bike and u-turn to assist him.

by the time, i reached, saw your guys, mc+veron, mike koi(ksr & a phantom lady rider there already helping him.

it was raining that day .and it seem like yesterday.

rest in peace, justin............
