Life's like this for us

When I am driving I hate it when I am given preferential treatment over the biker in front when I am at the petrol kiosk or while entering the car park of a shopping mall. When I am riding I hate it when I was told to leave Gateway while the rest of the cars which are obviously taking up more space remains parked. But this is the kind of discrimination we face here. It will remain a discrimination until someone raises this up in parliament. But who will do it?

Feel strange to see the attendant pump the petrol for my bike. My gas cap is the removable type with the key slotted in type.

Firstly i am not able to go off because the key is on the fuel cap. Later someone else take the key after the fuel attendant put it back. Secondly he pumped, i just stand besides to watch. Really awefully strange. Last but not least, if he accidently dropped the fuel cap and broke the key, i really Lan Lan.

Pumped myself better.

After they pump, you pay the attendant and then you ride off. So this way, you won't be leaving your bike and stuff unattended unless you have to go to toilet....

That's how it was done in Thailand.

probably i didnt make myself clear enough i guess. 1stly, 1 of the cashier(aunty) always faint.. you would be angry and upset that she always faints especially during peak hrs... And............... the way she faint is very fake. Want to faint still say "aiya aiya aiya i want to faint now" and she lift up her arm and rest on her forehead; her forehead is facing upwards... She still can wait for ppl to come out to aid and support her before she really went fainting zzz...

It is really very upsetting because this is not her 1st time i've seen her like this.

I dont know how other ppl faint, but I'm pretty sure if i faint i wont have the breath to say "aiya aiya im going to faint soon". I would feel dizzy and try to grab something before i black out.. that's it...

Of cos im angry because the aunty playing a act and the next thing i knew was that the hose was on my bike and "cutting" across to the car beside me. btw the hose is dirty too, I dont feel comfortable when the crew have to lift up the hose for me to ride across. I know I should have move my bike forward during peak hours. FYI, that period that i went probably have 1 or 2 vehicles only. who would have guess during that 15 mins or so, there's so many vehicle decides to pump petrol?

I admit I'm impatient, but how about the crew? The crew is impatient to wait for me because there are many vehicles coming in. He is very excited to served and clear as many customer as possible. However, he forgotten that even if he is fast, but the cashier is slow...

Anyway, that happens at least 1++ year ago, I'm sharing my experience. Come to think of it, actually it's just a small matter. Nowadays, I try move my bike to the front to prevent myself getting upset & the crew is paid to do his job, no point scolding him.

that was blythe 1++year ago... I'm working as a customer service now, there are times when customer had to scold me(actually scolding my company XD), Im representing my company so..... i had to calm them down. Seriously, I dont feel good when customer scolds me. That explains everything. I dont any how scold and scream like a mad woman now~~

That's why, after pumping, I always push my bike next to the station's minimart.

Farrk care, just park it on the double yellow line. What can they do? A couple minutes only what. Unless I yaya papaya wanna go shopping :p :P

The way you describe that cashier's fainting pattern is funny.

Like you said, there were many vehicles coming and and he was trying to clear as many as possible. Put it this way, he is not paid by per vehicle he pump, so it doesn't reward to clear more vehicles. He was just trying to do his job, trying to help drivers/riders fill up faster. Singaporeans are rather impatient (society we lived in) so he understands pple doesn't want to be waiting.

Like you said, CS is kind of a dirty job. Gets all e nonsense from displeased customers. So we have to try our best to make another server's day, and not be another person who ruined it.

------

Anyway, I don't normally get them to pump for me.

I'll never let the attendant touch my bike. I'm really afraid of petrol spills on the fuel tank, 'fraid that it might spoil the paintwork. Never wanted responses like "Orh, sorry ah, boy. "

Though I've met kind gestures such as attendant coming over to ask about my bike and offer to wipe the windscreen for a bit, I gave them a tip, not much, only 2 bucks. So why not?

I believe a little consideration goes a long way so after a pump, I usually ride my bike to stop at the side of the minimart but there was once this incident that involves a PRC attendant who shouted and chase after me, his arms flailing cause he thought I was running away. It attracted the attention of the whole station as well as the manager who apologized after what happened. Yeah, I was insulted cause he called me a thief but after some calm explaining, he immediately felt embarrassed and apologize to me and to the whole station.

Was really happy in the end and I've gotten a $10 shell voucher too!

Well, Blythe, now you know! It's really good being able to see both perspective and understand how you could deal with situations delicately.

Because it's not our culture to pay the attendant. As stated in the last paragraph, that's how it's done in Thailand. Also IF the rider start the bike without paying, the attendant can at least try to stop the rider from leaving the petrol station. This way, they can also attempt to prevent petrol theft

It will remain a discrimination until someone raises this up in parliament. But who will do it?

Does our MPs ride? They won't know what is discrimination. Their cars are too large, too precious, that we bikers are just pawned.

that's because this aunty fainted twice infront of me..

the other say i think got system error, the cashier couldnt find my the pump number transaction. Somehow the transaction went to the other cashier. then this aunty continued to scold this crew.. so i suggested to go to the other counter to pay(in a way also wanted to stop her from scolding the crew). the aunty say i scold her... alamak.... i was malign for nothing.

soooo.... i have been riding to another petrol station... dont feel like seeing her face.

I think the govt feels that large number of motorcycles on the road forms the image of a third world country.....Singapore govt is too egoistic to allow that to happen....

Think about it.... if Parliament sees the benefit of motorcycle and encourage it.... they should not impose ERP on Motorcycle as it will ease traffic jam if ppl ride more than drive...

Too many bikes might not be a good thing. Take a look at Vietnam.

I feel that the reason is very simple. Bikers don't pump as much petrol as cars. Of course, if you're riding huge bikes like STX and the likes, then you will pump as much petrol as cars.

But the thing is that most of us don't. Even my bike can only pump up to 18 litres. That means we're smaller customers.

I've grown to accept this for 4 years plus now.

Biking is something that everyone can learn and enjoy! :goodluck:

If they made a policy for car owners to pump themselves, imagine how many would drive away with the nozzle still lodged in the tank.

It's an optimized process for customers to spend more time on shopping for items and making payment while the car is still pumping fuel or has finished refilling. Hiring one station worker to do this task is still profitable even if it costs $5k per month in the long run.

Well as for bikes, there are two simple reasons:

- some tank fuel cap requires keys

- complicated methods of reaching the tank fuel cap

Since majority are doing it quite quickly at 10L, we might as well do it ourselves. Petrol stations will be happier if our bikes have a common place (alike cars) to pump petrols.

Been pumping my bike for 5 yrs on my own. Never even pushed bike away after pumping when going to make payment. If someone else wants to pump they better learn to be patient. Once an attendant pushed my bike slightly to allow a car to be pumped using the pump i used and when i wanted to make payment the cashier quoted me 40. I did not pumped more than 4litres. Turns out its the car using the pump i used pumped up to 40. Thankfully I was alert. Otherwise 40 for less than 4 litres of petrol.
