What will happen if no air filter is present?

just found out today that my bike is running without air filter all the while

Mech say better not put air filter as bike is already used to it without air filter and if put now might affect the performance

with filter the air flow is lesser so somehow performance will decrease a bit. but i doubt it will be much since bike is design to run with the amount of air with the filter fitted unless the engine is physically modified.

there is no such thing as "used to it". hopefully your mechanic remember the bike is a machine...

you are risking higher engine wear by allowing dirt/dust entering your engine. i believe most bike manual state never to operate the bike without air filter on.

thats what i thought as well

Nt sure if the mech is correct but i heard from my uncle in the past that the bike will get use to it if that setting is used for very long

you can still continue to do so but at the expense of putting your bike engine at risk lor. Imagine is got truck carrying sand in front of you and the sand get blown into your engine without the air filter.

By getting used to the mechanic means the air to fuel ratio. May be the bike has been tuned for the higher air intake or is currently running very lean. If you put an air filter it will run richer. A good mechanic should be able to adjust the AFR ratio after installing the filter.

I would suggest install the air filter right away, its better to do the right thing rather than doing the wrong just because so far its working. You never know it might just come apart one day.

Cheers!

yeah. when the engine wear, it get used to having sand in it:sian:

even with high-air flow filter like K&N, some UOA show higher wear particle in the engine oil not to mention without one.

put a good OEM air filter on it ASAP.

just that 1 small chance, maybe 1 time stuck behind lorry carrying sand, and don't forget when riding dust and dirt is kicked up from ground into air as well.

ultimately its your bike la, do what you want with it, but be prepared ah.

This is not the first time I am hearing such absolute BS.

I have heard the main agent mech telling a young rider that the bike doesnt require an air filter to run, rather than telling him that they dun have stock. In the user manual, it is also stated very clearly that one shouldnt ride without the air filter! Manufacturer vs a mech... whose words will you rather stick to?

Quite irresponsible behaviour, I find.

Air filter does exactly that... filter air. Without it, all sorts of dust, debris, etc is gets sucked into the engine. Pretty soon, all these extra "tonic" will cause excessive wear and tear on the cylinder walls and other internal parts of the engine.

Also, not having the air filter means the engine is getting a lot more air. If the jetting is not increased to match the increased air intake, it will lead to a lean condition, which can cause engine seizure.

Oh, and I would strongly recommend you change mech. No decent mech will recommend running a bike without air filter.

imagine a passing fly or a nest of bees making their hive under your bike where its warm, on one cold night? next few days u start it up and all get sucked in.... no all filter. epic....

I believe tzm uses airbox? Get the OEM airbox and maybe if u still want the "air filter" sound hear-alike" can drill some holes.

Damn rubbish!! get used to it. HAHAHHA. Dun ever go to the Bikeshop anymore.

Without the filter most bike perform especially well however in the long run the bike will lose more power than it ever has. or in another words the engine is dying. imagine air is pump to the piston and you dun want tiny stones and gravel to enter the engine.

There is no "Get used to it"
