Hi NC700X riders

Have not visited here for quite a while.

I took my silver NC700X to Thailand on an 8 days trip, just after completing the run-in on 2400 km.

On my 4004 km trip to Thailand and back, the fuel consumption its 25 km/l, on an avg of 150km/hr.

In Spore I usually go not more than 120 km/hr and get 30km/l.

I use fully synthetic EO after the run-in, and my bike carries the Hepco Explorer top box, Hepco engine guard and Hepco main stand all along.

Just to share.

I am a Honda bike lover:-

Honda CRM 125, Honda Cub C70, Honda Steed 400VSE

Honda Shadow Slasher 400, Honda XR125L, Honda XR400RW

Honda SuperCub C90 single seater (vintage ride - 43km/l)

Honda NC700X (Smooth tourer around Indochina)

Honda CRF250L (Enduro - 30km/L)

So far noticed that using RON95 petrol gives me more mileage. Tried out RON95 for 3 consecutive fills gave me about 30-31km/l. When use RON92 gives me about 27-28km/l...just my observations.

I just finished a 1,500km spin around P. Malaysia after my 2nd EO change.

No problem dashing up Cameron Highland in "S" mode.

Even went thru lousy plantation roads without issue.

Only thing is... NSH is really slow. Stock screen on the NC700XD doesn't give you much protection above 120kmh.

At 140kmh, can feel there is a "2nd wind" in the engine but the buffeting is too much for comfort.

Acceptable for me since I like to cruise at around 120-130kmh on the NSH.

Mileage is err... quite lousy. 1490km on 73litres.

"S" mode for most of the way, needed the torque to bush-whack thru lotsa places, overtake slow-moving vehicles, up cameron, around Gua Musang...etc.

Cameron Highland's cannonball run is very thrilling in "S" mode plus some trick manual down-shifts.

Even Fazer 1 and Super Tenere were finding it difficult to catch up with me at times during the run up.

Conclusion: DCT + 700cc engine almost equal 1000/1200cc + noob gear shifting.

ups for your trip report bro

luckily your 2 buddies have you and your essential spares along the trip, nice knowledge from you on the nylon tying the yamaha oem rack to the s10 rear rack and the bandaging of your buddy

although the damage for the suite is pretty high, but its the most rational decision you could have made for your buddy riding on the fazer 1

perhaps some IT gadgets will be a good gift for kim&boon

if your garmin GPS is out of date, perhaps you can update it with malsingmap or malfreemap?

parallel twin at its best when climbing up the slopes

how much was the tow for the fazer 1 back to SG? does MR JAY covers entire malaysia or up till a certain area? what was the cause of the accident by fazer 1? pray that he is recovering fast from his injuries.

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car

and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.

Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall,

torque is how far you take the wall with you.

Just the minimal number of back-up items that any solo riders should have prepared. I have trimmed them down to the bare essentials. Think may have to pack a few more items back in. This trip had me thinking more about the kind of emergencies I may face next time.

Well... I wanted to surprise the guys with a night stay in Hard Rock Penang if they managed to make it thru the trip. Hence, budget-wise still quite ok lah.

Already putting together a short list of IT gadgets for Mr Boon in Cameron. He doesn't want new stuff lah. Just things he could tinker around with. Lucky for him, I've plenty of stuff to give away.

I just loaded a 100% Garmin SE Asia Map into my GPS only 3 months ago. Anyway, so long the GPS works and I have the coordinates of my destination, I can find my way sooner or later. Details of the ma doesn't really matter. Malaysia is hardly a remote region anyway. Worse come, sleep in plantation lor. =p

NC700XD is very shiok on the up slope run. The stock tires works pretty well too. I had a lot more fun riding this bike up than my ST1100. But dun just take my words for it lah. I've never rode a sportsbike before.

Jay charged SGD800 to send the bike from CH to SG. The next cheapest quote I've got was 50% higher (after discount). Fazer1 was too kan chiong about his bike to leave it in CH lah.

Mechanic thinks its the SHINCO tyres. The rear brakes were also shot. Not sure whether its due to the accident or the cause of it too.

I've just went to his shop to check them out again. The tyres were hard and shredded in many places.

Instead of yielding to uneven road surface, the tyre compound just tears itself in many tiny places.

That corner in Cameron Highlands must have been too much.

Luckily Fazer1 managed to slow down enough to reduce the impact. *shudder*

you just need to bring more moolah again as a back up item next time, hahaha!

that's weird, perhaps Garmin SE Asia Map is not as updated as MFM/MSM as they are being updated on a weekly basis as far as i know.

yes parallel twin is great for climbing the up slope, so much torque at your disposal and not requiring to change the gear as often as a inline-4.

woah SGD$800, that is alot of money not including the amount of money that is required from Fazer1 to repair his bike. but well its a CH, its quite a distance away from SG. actually he could leave his bike there and take a plane there if it is still in a rideable condition. he feels unsafe about doing it so huh?

shinco tyres is no good, i had them once when i bought over my bike.

the wear rate is quite uneven becoming like a flat spot in the middle part, and it feels slippery when wet and it doesn't instil confidence for the rider to corner.

get michelin pilot road 3 :thumb: proud to hear than the bigger bikes have trouble catching the NC uphill hehe... too bad i'm having the manual version, i have problem catching others uphill. probably due to not having enuff balls to bend lower after seeing my friend skid due to stones and sands on the ground

The road conditions were perfect that late morning.

Bright, sunny weather and the clear dry road up Simpang Pulai was almost deserted for some reason. Virtually no vehicles going up nor down.

Using the DCT in "S" mode plus the occasional "+/-" and keeping the engine rev'ing between 4000-5500 rpm is the perfect sweet spot come the corners and bends.

Those vital sub-seconds u shave from push-buttons shifting really makes the difference when up against big CCs and inexperienced handling.

20-30km from Brinchang, I also start to humji. Getting old liao, heart can't take so much excitment for so long.

All DCT owners should try the "S" mode up Cameron Highland.

120kmh in 4th gear on the DCT upslope...

Guaranteed to put a ****-eating grin on your face. =]
