Found a website where you can get oils, in case anyone is interested:

when using oil for over 10,000km, engage gear still being smooth as ever. Does it mean the oil is becoming more thinner as it prove not gd for our engine?

No problem. And i hope you see that I'm not trying to win an argument, just trying to help you better understand the needs of your bike to maximise your biking experience. Once you have this experience, it can be applied to all subsequent bikes. So far there have been many happy endusers in SBF itself after a better understanding. The bulk of local bike servicing community is still hung up on thick is better and have differing and sometimes inaccurate theories on choosing a viscosity.

Viscosity affects gear shift because motorcycles are wet clutch with the clutch place soaked in EO. Different operating viscosity affects the clutch plate drag. Using a very thick oil is in effect similar to not clutching in enough, friction is still tranferred through the viscous oil film. Putting the bike on main stand, start engine and engage 1st gear while remaining clutched in, you will see the rear wheel spin. The power is transferred purely from oil friction.

The motocycle sequential shifting system is very particular about having just the right amount of 'tensioning' to get the gears to engage smoothly. Too little and you need to play your clutch to find neutral, too much and you find the gear shifting very stiff.

with all due respect, ANR Impex had r.i.p. few mths back due to accident if i'm not mistaken.. for s4, usual takes would be:

maxima extra 10w40 - gd for quick pick ups

maxima extra 15w50 - if wan smooth gear change & long distant trips

maxima ultra 5w50 - best of both worlds.. haha but costs a bit more :thumb:

has anyone tried Royal purple engine oil from the USA?

Most people go through life following the crowd.

Others think for themselves.

They go their own way.

Not recommended. You can use...coz some using for their S4 and no complain.

Y not recommended??? This is because car uses dry clutch system while bike uses wet clutch system. So there bound to be differences in the EO.

hi guys, need ur help on my 5k milage x1r, everytime i change engine oil, i always change to fully synthetic one's and this the problem, whenever i clutch in and lower a gear it has a very loud "tiak" sound, is it because the oil not thick enough? By the way, i used putoline and maxima before for 1st few engine oil change and now using motul 300v changed twice.

10W or 15W is the viscosity grade of the oil at 0*C(winter)..-40 or -50 is the viscosity grade at working temperature. Higher value means thicker oil. We shd look at the number at the rear instead of front cos Singapore no winter.. :cheeky:

We shd be looking at -40 or -50 weight oil..but it depends on what oil/brand/manufacturer you use. Most fully synthetic oil are not really synthetic base..very few brands here are actually true synthetic oil.

From where I read, petroleum base synthetic oil will breakdown faster and degrade 1 viscosity grade lower when compared to ester/PAO base synthetic oil during high speed and high temp operations.

To be safe..choose true/pure synthetic oil where its made of ester/PAO if you wanna use synthetic oil. If using a petroleum base synthetic oil, choose -50 cos if it degrades, will degrade to -40..

Juz my 0.0002 cents...
