Dear riders...

I just got my vespa LX 150... FBA plate.. However when i throttle, the power seems to come after i throttled a lot! As compared to my friend's LX, his bike power came juz with a little throttle!

When i ask the bike shop uncle, he says that becoz the bike had been lying there waiting to be sold, hence the clutch plate or clutch dIsc got rusty, it will be fine after some riding or he can even help me remove the rust? Any advise or comments on that?

Also only one of the tyre seems botak! Usually u guys will change one or its better to change both tyre at the same time?

New rider here! Thank u for ur advise!:)

Let him de-rust first. After riding and the rust will most probably get stuck to the clutch pads and there will be more dust and soon you may face other funny symptoms like slipping or jerkiness. I guess only ah, it may not happen :p

Even if long time never use, from the moment you ride from bike shop to home, the rust would have more of less get rubbed off. So the normal behavior should be back.

Bring back let him clean and see if still the same, if so go back again.

I predict he will say if you go back after he clean.

1. Aiyah, just service it's like that one, ride for a few days ok alledi.

2. Aiyah, this part spoil liao, must change.

3. Aiyah, must leave bike a few days for checking.

I just anyhow guess one huh. See will be like this or not. See how helpful the bike shop is.

Tire botak recommend to change both for your case as you do not know how old are the tires. Get a bike shop to check for you, they'll know better considering if they are the ethical kind.

What i suggest is find a reliable bike shop where the LX guys visit and let them have a look for 2nd opinion.

Power might be from one or more of the following...

1. Belting or rollers worn

- experience choppy power delivery, u knew u held the throttle well, but power comes on n off

2. Clutch plate worn

-experience alot of clutch slips, belt is slipping off the clutch plate, thus not moving off effectively

3. Fuel injector or Carburetor dirty

- fuel is not sprout evenly thru the injector due to dust or dirt particle built up.

(but in your case, your FBA LX should be a carb model)

The rest are all basic checks like air filter, plug and also maybe checked throttle cable to see whether becus

the cable has been stretch thruout the year or probably just need some WD4T at the carb to make it easier to throttle.

and, there is no point to compare your carb version to an FI version cus they are much smoother and easier to start in the morning,

cus FI in layman words, has this computer to determine air-fuel mixture to the optimum state.

hehe hope my words helped...

yup. as what brembo says... make sure u dont compare with a FI lx150. the difference will be significant.

other than wear and tear, other thins that might affect it is the tension of the throttle cable/spring, or different rollers weight as changed by previous owners.

It is true that there can rust within the transmission pulleys after long periods of being left alone.

But it should not be causing slippages to an extreme extend.

However, the prime suspect given your description above could likely be the CVT of your bike..

Since you had only newly acquired your bike, was there any info the last belt change?

Or the rollers within the transmisson are suffering from a flat spot. (not so round any more)

If you have no previous data of the items last changed, then i supposed you might need to have the transmission assembly opened for investigation.

Follow the link to draw your own conclusions or to better understand your CVT.

I had the lX150 and got the Malossi big bore kit, and put it almost every "power" modding parts except exhaust.. n the top speed is still around 125km/h.

Honestly, even if it can go to 150km/h, I wouldn't want to try it. The riding posture, gemeotry and the wheel size will make you feel very insecured. Most of the time, I end up cruising at 90km/h, where's it's pretty comfortable after the mods. Before it, I believe I was going around 80-90km/h too, just take it took longer to accelerate to the speed.

The LX150 is a lifestyle bike in my opinion. Easy to ride, nice to look at. Oh yes, it's extremely easy to weave around heavy traffic too. It's my favorite Orchard Road bike.

I used to have the GT200 before, and it's was alot more stable at the speed of 100-ish km/h. I never went before 125km/h as well, due to the lack of wind protection, and once again, the riding posture. Your body is literally like a sail. Overall, the GT200 feels more stable. I believe the new 250cc and 300cc vespa are around the same size with the GT200, with faster pick up, but I doubt you could go fast just because of smaller wheels, the lack of wind protection and riding posture.

Hi how much did u pay for the malossi big bore kit n where to get it? Any negative impacts?

Cant seem to find much information on vespa.. so am leeching on this thread :sorry:

I'm looking at buying a 2nd hand vespa, but I have no idea how to check or verify the information provided on the ads, eg- just overhauled engine / engine in perfect condition. For those who bought a 2nd hand vespa, how did you perform your checks to ensure you get what you paid for?

If we buy from owner, do we have to be concerned with any transfer documents, registrations?

In general is it better buying from a lady rider?

Would anyone advise to buy from shop since there will be warranty as opposed to owner?

Can anyone help? thanks!
