I'm riding a 125z currently, COE ending about next year..

Still thinking if i should renew COE or change bike.. I only scared the bike can't last another 10 years and i don't think it will have much resale too :(

Currently serving the nation, so it's good that i having a bike now. Going to ORD on dec, den proceed to studies for another 2-3years which i think would be good to have a bike.

Looking at the current COE is about 1.9k, I wonder if it's better to renew maybe either 5years or spend another 1k+ to get another second hand bike?

But to be a good rider, you have to change with your environment, and adjust yourself to its rhythm.

For me, ill jus change bike. Most of the bike dont have much resale value after renewed COE. But if u always take good care of the bike and confirmed going to ride for another 10 years, then u should renew.

If you renew 5 yrs, it will have to be scrapped when the 5 yr coe is up. It will also make your bike's resale value lower. Boils down to your budget. If your bike is okay, I will suggest renew it. At least you have been riding it awhile to know it's condition. If you buy another used bike, you would not know what problem it will give you.

You heard of this saying "Aim high fall low, aim low fall flat" ?

COE costs about $2k, get a second hand bike about $3-5k. spend a little bit more, can get nicer bike, uni chicks see also high, and then ask u for ride :D

imho, renewing 5 years is pointless. it is better to either renew 10 years ( got money ) or don't renew ( if money no enough / or change bike, wave maybe ? ) at all. if you renew 5 years & anything major repairs are needed, then you will have a problem, should you spend a lot of money on repairs...to fix or no fix. if don't fix, you will waste the remaining 1/2/3 years left. besides you can't sell your bike later that cannot be renewed ( 5yr left cannot renew again ). but if you renew 10 yrs, it will then be worthwhile to do any overhauls or major repairs. You can still sell it later if you have no money to run it.

i disagree, as he is still studying, all the "chick" bikes will be more costly to maintain ( consider his "income" :p ) or insure ( consider his age ). better to renew & use it as a cheap form of transport. if money no enough, still can sell later. If TS is from well to do family, then this issues are unimportant of course. :p

hahaha...have to agree. young men think bikes get chicks. Fat old man like me knows you need either a ferrari ( sensitive issue lately :p ) or six-pack abs ( mine mia for 20 years already :p ).:D

Its a kup. Renew COE for what?

Also, consider the availability of parts in the future.

Go walk around the carpark. How many of that model of bike will still be on the road in 5/10 years? Somemore 2-strokes bikes are getting less and less popular. Most likely will go extinct, leaving behind the relics sportsbike like SP, KR and RS, which do have some bling value.

Just enquiry does renew 10yrs coe can get a new number plate?

Number plate remains the same. Thats why those old Lao K u see on the road have classic number plates. In time to come, all the FX, FY, FZ plates and older F plates also will become classic...

P-plate should be an attitude to safety and riding. There's always more to learn.

it all tie down on what the bike is for? personally, i would renew the bike with full 10 years COE. if $2K to much to down, maybe get a interest free loan from dad and repay over 1~2years.

getting a resale bike may be cheap but you donno the condition. might need spend more on servicing and end up costing more?

I'll renew for another 10 years if I really like the bike..

- 2B - cheaper maintenance / repair - overhaul price for 2B might be just changing one part in CL2

- You ridden the bike for sometime.. you know exactly what you have changed and what needs to change soon.. 2nd hand bike out there.. U never know..

- Like some comments mentioned.. 2k for renew COE but another bike 3~5k.. Even if you managed to get one bike at 2k.. how much will the maintenance cost you?

Hope this will help you in making your decision.. :)

Kindly read thru at least the intro section first before decide to post any comments.... thanks...
